Katherine Chancellor is a treacherous, murdering bitch. Jill loved this man so much and Katherine the inebriated gargoyle couldn't stand that, so she killed him herself.
THIS is the difference in daytime drama now. Actresses/characters like Katherine who were upfront in the show (and weren't 18) and could act their asses off. Now the shows are filled to the brim with idiot characters like Chloe, Angelina, Sharon, Victoria, etc., who (for whatever reason to me) all sound, look, and act like the SAME character. ???? AND seedm to basically have the same storyline.
Jeanne Cooper was 47 yo in this clip. This was during an era when people looked their age and did not indulge in all the crazy over the top botox, plastic surgeries. Think about it, she was around the same age that Michelle Stafford (Phyliss), Tracy Bregman(Lauren) and Eileen Davidson (Ashley) are now.
@sonyab1974 He couldn 't deal with her drinking and her bad behavior. If he stayed with her he would have been a co-dependant which would have been much worse for him. He didn't love her anymore and he tried to make it work but it was too much for him. She should have won a Daytime Emmy but i don't think they gave them out until around 1974. She is a recovering Alcoholic in real life as is Jess Walton (Jill #3)
She sounds alot diffrent now. Just think the actors who play Billy, Chole and Kevin were'nt even born yet. The actress that playes Victoria was just born when this show aired
Katherine is trying so hard to get Phillip II back, but Phillip II keeps telling her that it's over.
Katherine told Amber that she learned a lesson from losing Phillip II, her words were: "I hung on to a fantasy that someday the man that I said I would love for the rest of my life, would love me, again. And it doesn't work that way, it just doesn't. No matter how much you love someone, you can not make that someone love you in return. You can't. Either, they do or they don't."
Look how much of a pathetic shell she was here, and then look at how far she's come? She was too little too damn late here. And you can see some of Jill in both the new/old Katherine. Yes she was already looking pretty damn old by now...some people who haven't watched in years believe she's already dead(81 for sure, but 46 here) and before her face lifts. Not to mention, she was a real life alcoholic and they incorporated that into the show.
Holy cow! The same damn couch) same damn set, maybe? CBS really needs to spend some money for the Y@R set when it comes to the finest homes: the Abbott mansion, the Newman ranch, and Chancellor estate!
She was -- what -- 45 or 46 years old here, but looked practically 60. Her voice, her hair, her clothes, and her aging face made her seem so much older than her real chronological age. She got old fast! Now that she's in her early 80s and seems somewhat young for her age.
It's so hilarious how she starts praying to get his affections back! So pathetically desperate and outrageously funny! Jeanne Cooper is a legend and has carried this show like a trouper. "For the LOVE of... of HEAVEN!"
yeah something tells me she was never one of the religious types. And wouldn't of thought to pray had Brock not have been a minister. And the annual christmas church shows where she attends with everyone else, that ain't enough. She was pathetic and manipulative and like Phillip points out here many of times(but still can't get through that old head of hers today was that their marriage had been dead in the water for years, BEFORE Jill) No sympathy votes for Kay on my behalf, but JC is great!
Yeah them two seemed a lot alike. Actually I think the idea to bring VN on was for a "male counterpart" to Katherine, evil and competitive and using wealth and power to get what they want. Victor was brought in to replace Derek as head of Chancellor Industries, here he is 30 years later.
i was born 10 years after this episode aired

Why is Kay wearing that white dress with a cross? It looks like something someone would be burried in;

I wish someone had the scene when Katherine drove off the cliff, with Phillip in the car. I don't remember it at the time, but it is very dramatic!
snoops71 4 months ago
@snoops71 As I mentioned in a post below, the lead-up to it was seen in a flashback a few years ago, look up "Y&R Kay and Amber January 30 Part 1".

@SuperJimmyValentine well, she was just coming out of her alcolism. I can see why she'd be vulnerable.

So really, Jill is not evil. The late Phillip was the scumbag who left a woman in her declining years for a younger woman.
Why does it always happen that when the man does something cruddy, it's the women who get blamed?

Im glad Jeanne Cooper stuck with this character all these years and is still going strong and looking even better :)

Poor Katherine Chancellor. The woman hated Jill, and their rivalry lasted from 1975-2003, and then flared again in late 2009. That is like 28 years!

Back when soaps had story arcs and characters grew. Kay would nt be where she is today had this not happened. Now characters stay weak and pathetic.
