In fact if you were to ask me my top ten PS2 games of all time, it would probably come down to this and Shadow of the Colossus to contend for the number one spot.

@1gamesforyou I think some of the 'de-scarifying' of the newer games is as much due to the new game creation as the fact that we've seen something scary before. Silent Hill was the first game of its kind, and it blew many away, but now it's not so new, so we're not as shocked as we once were.

@dolfinplayingPS2 Yes, and it's a lot better on there sadly. Silent Hill 2 as SO many problems on the pc. For me anyways. Sound problems, install problems, non-working patches. And to boot, the game crashes in the elevator level of the hospital.

@darkchiron Actually there's a lot of LP's that there is no talking, they do it with subtitles, imo is a much better way for terror games like these, no offense though but the talking kind of takes away the fear factor from the game.

So far this is actually my least favourite Silent Hil game, but only because I found the voice acting and dialogue in this game to be atrocious compared to the others. Just abysmal. On the other hand the atmosphere is wonderful.

But is it too much to ask for game developers to hire people who actually know how to write believable dialogue? or find decent voice actors for that matter? I mean, for the amount we pay for these games I really expect better quality.

@jmatts78 the combat in this game seems to lessen the fear this game gives. at the beginning, you think, "oh shit!! here they come!!" but once you get the great knife, you get where you just say something like what chris said in lets play New super mario bros wii, "YEAH, "YOU WANT SOME FIREBALLS, BITCH?!!!"

Silent Hill 2 is on it's own plot arc. Silent Hill 1 has nothing to do with it except the setting.

@darkchiron actually I thin that first there was silent hill 5 where the main character get's off the truck to a nearby town,the truck driver then getsthrough silent hill BEFORE harry mason gets there and meets only the evil version of cheryl. at that time in a parallel world james visits the silent hill in it's present state and not the foggy version , with his wife...I suppose her skin disease could be a curse of evil cheryl.then harry comes and get's the good cheryl back so cheryl grows up

@Aquaferis silent hill 2 is at the same time of silent hill 3 I presume because cheryl finds her papa dead in front of a tv and james also finds a person dead in the apartment world in front of a tv :) so in chronological order I'd say it's SH 5,origins,1 and 2 & 3 at the same time while the room is a sidestory about the murderer sullivan which is mentioned in most of every other silent hill

When the nice lady said "I thought my father and brother were here, but I can't find them either...", did she mean she's looked for them in Silent Hill, and can't find them, or that she can't find their gravestones in the cemetery? It's just the way she says it while looking at a gravestone, it seems to suggest they are in fact dead. Sorry, I'm new to this story.

It's a bit of an oddity. The way she talks it's as if she's actually looking for them in the town somewhere, but as you said she says it be examining the gravestones.

You find out what really happened to them later in the story.

I'm not certain they made this game with any kind of thought about which ending really happened in Silent Hill 1. They kind of decided how it ended later when Silent Hill 3 was released, but before that they wouldn't label any Silent Hill 1 ending as canon.
