@bmxingtravis You'll be hard pushed to find an original red display SS3900 for sale on ebay these days as people are begining to realise just how good these radio's were, in fact you'll find more mint con mk2 148's ror sale than red display 3900s (fact)

The SS3900 is a superb radio it's the way the cobra 148 gtl-dx should have been back in the day. I have a mk1 &2 as well as the 3900 Ive had all three of them running Simultaneously &on receive the 3900 blows them away, it can pull in weak stations the cobra can't even hear, granted it has a harsher receive than the cobra but thats because the receive on these radios is fully opened and far more advanced than that of the cobra. I would describe the 3900 as a mk3 cobra

That Uniden/Cobra 148GTLDX chassis's never been beat. People have always complained of the 'lazy' s-meter, but there's plenty of mods for it.

Nice to hear one of the original whiskey-whiskeys still operating.

Isn't (or weren't) Cobra and Dynascan more or less the same thing? Whatever, beautiful rig mate. I use an IC7000 these days, but the 148gtldx still makes my mouth water.

No it's ranger who make the chassis for the 3900 it's electronicaly identical to the uniden PB010AB chassis used in the last mk2 cobra 148 gtl-dx.

The Superstar 3900 is basically a Cobra 148 GTL-DX clone & great value for money (given that 25 year old Cobra's go for £100 on Ebay!) Paired with an Astatic 575-M6 or the DM104-M6B microphone, it's a screamer! Gotta love that retro stylee!

what sounds horrible is the receiver on that cb radio m8. the 775 has one of the best audio outhere. he is receiving that signal thru a cb radio wich does not have many of the filters require. this is the diference between a cb and a ham radio not to mention the money...

You can't hear police on CB Radios. Some police however have CBs in their cars for reports of accidents and shit.

A custom in the US is to use 'channel 9' as an emergency channel. I don't know about other countries, though.

no usually the police use motorola's on a frequency of around 500.00 or higher but in my small town very small town where theres like 2 people per square mile they use cb's but the rest of the county doesnt

Not really, The ss3900 worked fine.

The 200's are known for alot of problems and the 2970 has a shite signal meter.

I was making contacts of over 200 miles on groundwave with this beast.

Blimey thought 11 meter was dead been out of it for so long, 3900 had one of them and hated it prefered my old 360 and Cobra 148GTLDXs still nice to see people still active on there though, I went to Echo Charlie ;) 73s

take it you had the old 3900 the cheap chinese version? the new ones are being built under licence from ranger who make the best rigs on the market and are far superior in both performance and build quality they use the same PB 010 AB board that were used in the second revision of the 148. in fact they're every bit as good as the cobra i know i've owned both rigs.
