To me, both versions of this song are powerful in their own right John Farnham's voice is rich with raw emotion. David's voice is rich with controlled emotion. I can't help but think that those who feel it necessary to condemn one or the other have, ironically, completely missed the very message of the song.

I have been a John Farnham fan from when my mother played his stuff while I was a kid. Last year I went to see Farnham live, with my mother and G-mother and we had a ball of a time. John Farnham has a huge set of lungs and is a legend in Australian music. I am also a David-Archuleta-fan- for-life and in all fairness I don't think we can truly compare these two. Farnham has the stronger voice but Archuleta has the vocal prowess that Farnham doesn't. They're both good for different reasons.

No, there isn't a person alive that can sing this like Farnham. Like Josh Groban, he's a mega-voice. Now, I give DA credit for attempting the song, and this recording is very good (he didn't do very well live with this), its soulful, melodic and pretty. This is really a good version of the song by a kid with an amazing voice. All that said, it pales in comparison to JF. Just goes to show how great Farnham is when he can completely upstage a kid with such a high quality voice.

Americans were not familiar with this song. Ought to be proud that one so young brought this awesome song to our attention. He was not trying to outdo John, but liked his music enough to select for the show. He got enough slack on AI for even selecting the song.
