you knew in your head that if the hundreds were divided into tens it would produce a number that could be divided by 3!!! grade 5 students wouldnt know this and in the case of 143 then it doesnt.
@tim0090 Hi! 143 would not immediately work, because students would realize that it is not easily divisible by 3. They could then choose a variety of strategies to figure out the answer with the remainder. By breaking it up, however, you can visually see what the remainder is going to be. Make sense? If not, perhaps I should make another video.
