@Tfpsly While it is not officially called a "timing chain", the 1.8T utilizes a chain to connect both the intake and exhaust cams together. Keeping the cams in time is relatively important, thus I call it a timing chain. Go ahead and pull the intake cover off any 1.8T, on longitudinal motors it will be back by the firewall, transverse on the driver's side.
Exactly, 'as far as you know'. They have a timing belt AND a camshaft chain. Two different responsibilities. Not "timing chain", as I corrected myself in my prior response, but is still crucial to engine timing. I'm a Chevy motor guy, so I call it a timing chain, when it's just a 'chain'.
The timing belt is connected to the "cam gear", which is connected to the exhaust camshaft (IIRC). The two camshafts are connected by a chain on the opposite end of the timing belt.
So what does it make on pump gas there boys? I'm willing to bet it isn't 445 AWHP now is it? Why is it that every vendor has to advertise with race gas timing and a turbo pushed to it's very limits. Post a dyno of a regular street tune for gas that doesn't cost $20 per gallon and then we'll talk.
stock intercooler? no wonder why it sounds your engine is struggling as soon as it gets past 6k. but still thats crazy how much power your making with those simple bolt on mods and still the 1.8...props but you would be a lot better off with a fmic :)
@soxonmyfeet lol i hope you realized how dumb you just put yourself. obvisoully you have no clue what an intercooler does. "motor room you have to spool up" that sounds so ricey. the IC cools the air...denser air basically means more hp...ex cold air intake. if that air gets hot enough its not going to add any power. even with a stock ko3 you can feel the difference after a fmic...but you wouldent know because you havent ever driven an audi...or even a a4...or a modded b6 a4
@soxonmyfeet the turbo takes longer to spool with a fmic? that is totally incorrect. the air would be more dence so it will have greater volumer when it gets hotter (like when tires blowout from heat, its called kinetic molecular theory) so it will move more air make the turbo spool faster. Even if it would spool slower for some reason, it will still produce more power thruout the band to make up for it and then some.
So technically it doesnt have the stock maf connected, it's got a vr6 one. Also where is the Maf connected because it's not in the stock location (pre turbo). Great looking car and numbers though.
in the posters defense.. he did post 550 "HP"... not 550 "AWHP".. i had no doubt nor confusion that this was crank. It's like complaining if someone used the unit "kg" and "g"... they are two different ways to inform you of the same thing. If you can't understand "HP" from "AWHP" or even "WHP", then perhaps you have no right to be complaining about his title of 550 "HP".
@davidsarabi you should get good clutch. that should give you more power to wheels. try getting 8lb flywheel or less. you will notice a huge difference.
@Pendemic Bullshit. Nobody uses crank hp numbers. Only the factory and thats because their bullshitters. If you wanna be real that post the real numbers. Dont add 20% to your figures to sound better. Keep it real.
I don't give a fuck what numbers people post, mostly because it's quite easy to figure out what power they're making at the wheels or at the crank with some simple math...maybe that's too hard for you.
Impressive. I'm always a little discouraged when planning what to do with my B6 with what it takes to get higher power levels. 550 is a lot easier to get out of a 3.0 liter than a 1.8 liter. Plus the sound of the 7M is more pleasing than the 1.8T 4 cyl.
550hp daily driver ha, so this guy runs on race gas everyday? Car won't have even remotely that much on pump fuel or if it jumps off that dynojet :) Sickness dude!

@nextbmxstar stock 1.8T don't have chain, only a timing belt. I don't think it would be easy to change it to use a chain.

@nextbmxstar I have a longitidinal 1.8T on my A4 B6 Quattro, similar to this video but stock: definitely a belt :)
AFAIK, all B5 and B6 have timing belt, not chain.
S4 on the other hand do have a timing chain. And 2.0 TFSI since 2009 too.
Tfpsly 7 months ago
@Tfpsly I have one too.

@nextbmxstar Ok that makes more sense: a timing belt and a camshaft chain, you're definitely correct on that.
