Why is it that when artists create great songs for us, we crucify them if they want to refresh the tune to keep the spirit inside them and recreated for us. Don't we all need a change in our style occasionally: hair, clothes... Music is a continuum!
horrible. I actually like McDonald as a solo artist, but he temporarily ruined this band with his presence. it was a happy day when Tom Johnston returned.
I used to listen to this years ago and I remember thinking I like the name Doobie brothers and this song used to get me into the groove ready to dance whenever I hear this!
what crap! Without Tom Johnston, there are no Doobie Bros!! If I went to this concert I would've walked out & demanded a refund! Who's that clown singing lead & that pathetic Michael McDonald was the downfall of the Doobies. They sucked during the Michael McDonald years. Glad they finally got rid of his ass & Tom came back. He makes the Doobies the great band they are!
This version, with Cornelius on vocals may be one the best versions of this particular song. Cornelius was clearly shy, and preferred playing on the riser with Steely Dan but stepped up to the plate. Rumor has it that he practiced for shows in NYC subways.
It is said that if you do not have anything good to say about someone or someithing then dont't say anything at all. So I will not say anything about this rehashed classic.
Actually, this version from the '82 tour sounds a lot to me like a version that the Isley Brothers recorded about a year after the original song was released. I think it was the band's way of tipping their hat to the Isleys for honoring their song.
Great video! Thanks for posting. I just get tickled seeing some of the "new" members that some groups added. Some of them weren't even born when the original song came out! The Doobies are priceless regardless of the members playing though!
I see people don't appreciate great music.

it's their song and they can do whatever they want with it. And it's a pretty nice "cover" for a live show

Disco Doobie's !!! More of Michael McDonald's horseshit influence on this great rock band. I bet Tom Johnston puked when he heard this.
SIXSTRING63 3 months ago 2
@SIXSTRING63
doubt it, since Tom Johnston made a disco record himself in 1979, 'Savannah Nights'
fsol13 2 months ago
@fsol13 Maybe he figured to jump on the bandwagon and make some money since the band he co-founded were cleaning up with it.

absolutely terrible version! It's like an Adult Contemporary version. They should have taken their own advise and "listened to the music".

Michael McDonald killed this band. This version of a rock classic has him written all over it, it's not that good at all.
