  • Awesome Duet!!! There is a version of "Hangin On" by Vern and Emmylou posted on Youtube. Loved it also.

  • i dont think this was originally done with emmy and this is her. janie fricke i believe was on this song and if you compare the sound of her voice to the voice you here on till the end it sounds the same.

  • Love Janie Fricke as well. She sings great harmony.

    Thanks, Oak

  • He's one of the all time best and should have been on the Time Life Golden Country collection. Anybody know why not?

  • A guy who owed a lot to this song was R&B singer Joe Simon This was Joe's first big record

  • What a voice! There has never been, nor will ever be, another singer like Vern Gosdin. He should have had many more years on this earth. However, his true fans will never forget him, or tire of his great songs.

  • god bless you vern Gosdin Be at peace with god i will always remember you

  • This is Beautiful :-)

    R.I.P Vern Gosdin,

Your music/talent will always be remembered on YouTube :-)

  • Janie is lip syncing to Emmylou...funny.

  • Great song !

  • I love Janie Fricke, but yes he did it with Emmylou Harris, first I think. I heard it first with her anyway. They are both very good, but Emmylou can't be beat on duets. (MY Opinion!

  • Emmylou Harris won't live long enough to sing harmony as well as Janie Fricke!!!!

  • @ashbyhmason oh please vern could harmonize with anyone, not to take anything from Janie but i think Emmylou can do it better

  • I miss Vern Gosdin.Country music lost a legend.

  • ... excellent, absolutely beautiful...

  • I feel bad that Janie Fricke had to lip sync to Emmylou Harris' vocal. Janie must have been a good sport to do this!

  • Thanks ot all the great Fans for supporting The Voice !!

  • This song sends chills down my spine!!!!!!

  • Personally after watching Vern over many years I think he is a gift from God and I am not a religous person

  • I have it on a vinyl 45 and 33 lp

  • I never had the privilege of meeting Vern Gosdin in person (and unfortunately due to his untimely death, I never will), but I did see Janie Frickie live in concert and was able to chat with her for a couple of minutes. She is one of the sweetest ladies of Country Music; what you see is what you get; nothing phony about her. Thanks for posting!

    Have a blessed week,

    Jeff

  • This is a backing track and they are lip-syncing. That's Emmylou's voice, Janie is lip syncing to Emmylou's voice. This is show business folks. I'd have a hard time picking my favorite out of those two backup singers though!

  • @bigredridinhood C'mon, lip syncing? I don't think so, but even so, that is Janie's voice, NOT Emmylou's.

  • @Beauxciephais Yessir.....I am not saying they couldn't pull it off, they could! Unfortunately, we'll never know. But, where did they stash the orchestra? LOL

  • Vern sure lived up to his name THE VOICE, Vern had a voice he could mix with anyone and make them sound good,. They sure dont come as good as vern was. It was a sad day in country music when vern passed away. He was a legend who was never really appreciated for his talents like others were. Verns voice had the same kinda whine to it George Jones does. I call Vern the everyday George Jones of the working class.

  • @Mattea68 You are right they don't make them like vern anymore However you are wrong in saying He was never appreciated for his talent . you and I give testamony on this page to the contrary.

  • @MyCanadianeh, I more or less meant he didnt get the recognition he should have for the most part, It was a sad day when he passed away

  • @MyCanadianeh I meant he never reached the amount of fame he really deserved

  • Yes this is a great vern gosdin song and janie fricke does a much better job with it than emmylou. I have both versions. But, when it comes to "The Voice" he could could make anyone sound good.

  • Not to take anything away from Janie, but wasnt this Duet Originally with Vern Gosdin and Emmylou Harris?

  • I believe that the Gosdin Brothers (Vern & Rex) had the original in 1967.

Margie Singleton & Leon Ashley also released a version later the same year.

Personaly I have not heard Emmylou sing this song, and its not in any discography lists of hers that I can find, unfortunately.

  • I am Pretty Sure this was Vern's first #1 single he wrote. I know it wouldnt be under of Emmylou's Albums but i know is on Verns. I do know he had Janie singing backup for some of his songs. Vern had a voice that worked well with anyone on duets

  • Of course, not many has sang more duets & backup and so on than Emmylou, so I can't guarantee that she hasn't done this song. But as I said, I can't find it in any discography that I have available. That include Vern's.

That, of course, don't mean that it doesn't exist.....

The song was written by Ira Allen & Buddy Mize.

  • I have listened to this song on one of Verns Cds, and i think you are right it sounds like Janie singing with him, though he did some with emmylou also. Vern had a voice that would work with anyones, he certainly earned his title "The Voice", todays so called country music is a joke compared to this, Vern didnt get the recognition he deserved. RIP Vern, you will always be remembered

  • I also looked a little further into the credits for the songwriters in this song and VERN was also one of the writers

  • @Mattea68 i dont think so

  • @Mattea68 this was looping....that was the studio cut and Emmy's voice

  • When we lost Vern we lost one hell of a country song writer as well as a singer of them!

  • thnk you for sharing.
