  • @cadsalley I listened to Maria Muldaur's version. Nice. I like Maria Muldaur's voice and her music. Phoebe's voice is deeper, sounds more earthy and soulful. It's just a personal preference. Could not find Jo Ann Kelly singing this particular song. Listened to another of her songs and could easily imagine what her version of "IMGD" would sound like and I agree. She was amazing. Thank you! Sad that her life was cut short. I also left a comment on Karen Duffy's version. Check it out.

  • Sorry, she sucks! I'm sure Miss Briar is a very nice lady, but NOBODY besides Phoebe Snow does this classic by Mini Memphis any justice. Phoebe's voice sings the story best!

  • @MsArtistmom -- "but NOBODY besides Phoebe Snow" fortunately music isn't a world of absolutes. Listen to Maria Muldaur's version on "Richland Woman Blues", which captures the feel of Memphis Minnie's original. But the musician who sounded most like Minnie was the fabulous Jo Ann Kelly, who died far too young at age 46 in 1990, with no video on YouTube and scant few recordings still available.

  • My advice is, turn the amplifiers up to 11, that will cut out the ignorant audience noises. Are all New Zealand audiences this bad??

  • It wasn't that bad in the room. It was shot on a little video cam way back from the stage by the bar, where people were talking. Those cameras have compressor/limiters that amplify all the nearby sound to the same level as the PA sound. So it's just an amateur video.
