as far as i know, you can jailbreak 2.0 firmware but you're apps won't work... i don't know about the iphone 3G jailbreak and if it's functional or not. I'm hoping the app sotre and installer can work side by side..

a few of the reasons for unlocking the iphone are

1. you can go on any network you want and you dont have to pay £30/$60 a month on O2/at&t

2. you dont have to pay anything for apps

3. you can get custom themes and not the boring default theme
