  • i freaking love music theory...

it was always one of my favorite classes in college.

    so great.

  • Never has anyone on ourmixtape spoken with such wisdom as you just did. And the Wheezy Waiter reference made me smile :) I'll go and subscribe to you now.

  • good choices of people on Uke!

  • Of course there are many others that I've come to enjoy and admire. I singled out the first two that got me interested. And with both Molly and Tom, it's also the sophistication of their lyrics, chord progressions, and music that got me smilin' and clickin' (and buying their music, too).

  • This was just pure brilliance! :)

  • OBOE!! YES!! I used to play oboe too.

I agree that theory is very important. You're excellent! I'm gonna subscribe :)

  • Mickeleh, I don't know why I haven't heard of you before, but that doesn't matter now. I know of you. And you are a damn good vlogger, great with speaking to the camera/audience, and I will very well be subscribing to you and listening to your music.

  • Thank you so much. I appreciate that.

  • Dooblidoo!

    ...or however that's spelled. xD

  • Mickeleh, I may or may not be in love with you.

  • I may or may not be totally grinning from ear to ear to know that.

  • thanks so much for helping me out while I was away in Wisconsin

  • I can't believe we're Mickeleh's favorite collab channel!

  • Believe it. I love that this channel is focused on being helpful, not just entertaining. It's a uniquely generous channel.

  • Lovely to see you on here :-) I was getting curious about your thoughts on theory... But then they didn't come! You're completely right about the building blocks, I've been writing for weeks on a comprehensive way to put it in a video. Still haven't found the perfect form. But I'll get there :-)

  • They will come. Paul said I can have his slot next Tuesday when he moves house.

  • Justin Sandercoe! Love him!

    He is so helpful.

I love your story. YouTube is a great place to foster one's interest in music.

  • One of the things that I love about Justin is that he not only talks about how to play, but he also talks about how to practice.

  • Thanks for making a plug for theory (but the example got cut out?).

It can be steep at first, but it really does help you see the bigger picture of song playing (and writing), rather than just working on individual songs. In the long run, it's a great asset.

    ~ Jethro.

  • Actually... the example was not finished in time. Should have edited out the tease for it. I'll have to post it on my own channel--or here if I get to do another fill-in post.

  • Sounds good, mickeleh. I just subscribed to your channel today (this is the first time I've encountered you here on YT!). I'll be waiting! : )

    ~ Jethro.

  • Hi Mickeleh! I like this channel too. I enjoy watching enthusiastic people trying to help/teach others.

I don't have much musical talent, but maybe I could excel at theory. Thanks for the idea. :)

  • :) I like the idea that youtube can inspire people to get back into music if they've been away a while... I've only ever played the clarinet and I stopped that about 4 years ago.

Maybe one day I'll get back into it all!

  • Nice to see somebody else who has been inspired by Sweetafton23 and Hexachordal, they (and several others) seem to be responsible for this Youtube ukulele revolution that has been going on for a while now...

I'm going to check out your channel after this, I'll probably subscribe...

  • Yey, it's Mickeleh! :)

  • Great job, Mickeleh!

  • Note how everybody is skipping their videos since Cait proposed the continuous song.

  • haha it's not that, it's just that Alan and Bill aren't available right now.

  • Mmhmm. Sure, Raven. Sure.

  • Haha, I was actually in the middle of recording today's video when this popped into my sub box. You win ;)

Now, back to trying to think of what to talk about today...

  • Youtube can teach a lot and the music on here is cool.
