@ListenToRockOrDie - You can't really compare the two games. The Call of Duty franchise is geared more towards the casual crowd while Dragon Rising is geared more towards the realism crowd. Call of Duty is more a big budget, feature film while Dragon Rising is more a documentary (if you get my metaphor). I'm 27, and served in the National Guard for a few years, so personally, I prefer Dragon Rising. The squad commands, the ballistics, the enemy AI tactics; all are unmatched elements of this game

@nikolas88 That is true, but I'm strictly referring to what's available on the console. If you're a PC gamer, then yes, i definitely recommend Arma II. But for those of us who are console only, it doesn't get any better than Dragon Rising.
also to note that when you run it looks like you shit yourself. thay really could have mad the movement more fluid. but aside from that the game aint too bad.
Bought this game for $5 off of Steam. Amazing game. I loved the original Flashpoint from 2001 and its expansion - Cold War Crisis, however, never got around to playing this.. Lot changed since 2001 in gaming.
I don't know why they're selling this for this cheap. Its a really good game. The menu/interface seems similar to their Cricket games - BLIC, Ashes and International Cricket 2010 (which is excellent btw).
I like this game better than ArmA although thats pretty good too. This is 8.5/10

Say you're all getting shot at and you wanna get your boys behind cover. You see a suitable spot. So you issue the command. Instead of your character saying something realistic like "Get behind that cover now!" you get, "Move. Cover, grid alpha-kilo-6-6-9-yanklee." God forbid you issue a command two seconds later, in the heat of battle. You have to hear the same thing again. And again. And again.
Instead of "Yeah, enemy down!" you hear: "Target. Rifleman. Is eliminated." EVERY FUCKING TIME.
The enemies possess a whopping three different animations total maybe, and have all the intelligence of tree stumps. Friendlies will very often stand in one spot and if their little AI brain gets stuck keep firing long bursts with a SAW at a patch of grass ten feet in front of them. They stand there like paintings hoping to die no matter what you tell them to do. It gets quite infuriating after a very sot while.
And the voice acting? It's horrible. See my next post about how shit that is...
Don't get me wrong, I love a difficult challenge and mil sims in particular, but this game just failed. There's a difference between making the GAMEPLAY difficult and simply punishing the player with difficult game MECHANICS.
The graphics are bland and stale. The weapons look alright, but firing them looks about as high tech as it did on the N64. Try firing a pistol in this game (after you've spent ten minutes drawing it) and just watch. It looks so unbelievably stupid.
Im crazy over this game. I only play it in hardcore mode because it gets your heart beating so fast when guys start firing at you, knowing your entire 40 min mission can end with a single bullet.
I never thought I would like hardcore mode (that it would just be stupidly difficult and annoying) But I beg you to give it a shot. The sense of danger and reward is like nothing else. Slow and methodical, remember that, it may save your life!

It's like an actual war. Some people are going to get scared and not know what to do, some do actually run away. That's what this game intended to do, make you feel as close to war as you should ever have to get.
i agree cod is better just because everything you do is faster and more smooth flowing even changing weapons is just slow in this game but it is still a great game

you are comparing apples to oranges. Flashpoint is a military simulation whereas COD has more of an "arcade" feel. COD's streamlined design endows the player with a sense of empowerment; it makes the player feel like a badass ( In reality though, playing hero will likely earn u a posthumous medal ).
Flashpoint focuses more on tactics and is generally a lot more unforgiving, running in with guns blazing will not work.

This game is awesome ! Its the first FPS which really isn't forgiving when mistakes are made. I've played Cod4-5, and this game makes Cod look like a piece of shit, the only thing that makes Cod4 different is the graphics, but its very minor, if you're planing to look around while been shot at, you're as good as dead, that's how hard it really is. Its fun to pilot air vehicles, specially the chopper. You can get shot through the windows, remember BF2's planes windows don't break. Rofl.

I expected much less. I was overwhelmed by the awesomosity of this game.
You can't compare this game to CoD. They're two completely different games. This game is about tactical approach to AVOID war. CoD is action mid-war. Just because they have guns and soldiers they're not the same. =P

no it doesn't sorry but me and my brother both ave a ps3 and connect up LAN and do campaign so much fun we have had so far and only done 1st mission lol (we pissed around lots cuz you can do so many things)

excellent fun I play it a lot during the winter with my dad he is absolutely brilliant at it. I managed to get the game utterly free for my ps3 here: 115 games. com there are literally thousands I couldnt beleive that they are all free too I must say 2:35 was cool

O.k lets just start over. I'm wondering if there are any ways that you can fly helicopters (other than the 2 in the game), on the 360, and OFFline. I am also wondering if it is afireteam engagement, or if its downloadable content.

Guys, gotta think. This game is not a first person shooter, it's classified by the developers as a "War Simulator" and that's what the game does. It simulates actual battlefield scenarios. Sure, there are some things that are kinda wtf but isn't there in every game?

ok wtf is with the "chinese" fuckers, being able to 1 SHOT KILL YOU and it takes me almost 2 clips to down some guy from 25 feet meters away...its bullshit...but thats the only thing wrong i have with this game.

this game is so bad, like your teamates dont go for cover, they run off sometimes and the allied team does nothing to help you.

It's like an actual war. Some people are going to get scared and not know what to do, some do actually run away. That's what this game intended to do, make you feel as close to war as you should ever have to get.

thats because this is more of a sim and cod and other games like Battlefield are more fictional and faster paced so casual gamers or people who don't like sims don't get bored fast. I love the game however because it is a challenge.

@Snittioett well mate you are right, but now he just compares two shooters.they are both great games but in op flashpoint i just feel stuck,i feel blocked,i feel retained ... so the movement in this game is horrible but it kicks any arcade shooter's face to the ground by it's tactical gameplay.

you are comparing apples to oranges. Flashpoint is a military simulation whereas COD has more of an "arcade" feel. COD's streamlined design endows the player with a sense of empowerment; it makes the player feel like a badass ( In reality though, playing hero will likely earn u a posthumous medal ).
Flashpoint focuses more on tactics and is generally a lot more unforgiving, running in with guns blazing will not work.

i think this game is more realistic than mw2 cause of the wounds u can sustain during combat, you can dress the wounds but not completely heal them thats how it is in real life right? and bleed out and die...yeah thats cool.

you can trust me on this operation flashpoint is the most realistic war game ever i mean i have this got it for christmas and i still can not get past the first mission because one shot and your legs gone so you cant run then two a shot to the body or head your dead instanlty and this is on the easiest difficulty

The game is a open map. 220 Squared Kilometres. And yes, there are men all over the map and no there is no time limit.

Yes you could. Basicly you dont even have to follow the story line if you wish just to kill squads of the enemy everywhere.

the first for the aircraft carriers destroy a sunburn missle
and the second for friendly hinds
destroy SAM radar so they dont get blown up
u have time to complete the missions but wen saber says 5 mins they mean 5 mins

This game is awesome ! Its the first FPS which really isn't forgiving when mistakes are made. I've played Cod4-5, and this game makes Cod look like a piece of shit, the only thing that makes Cod4 different is the graphics, but its very minor, if you're planing to look around while been shot at, you're as good as dead, that's how hard it really is. Its fun to pilot air vehicles, specially the chopper. You can get shot through the windows, remember BF2's planes windows don't break. Rofl.
