  • aahh...i grew up in san juan capistrano and just cringe when i hear it pronounced like that "jewnipero" or "yunipero"...its pronounced hoo-nee-pero serra. if you go to san juan capistrano and mispronounce it we will understand but it really does bug us

  • I've saw the ghost sighting there before at the Mission. My friend caught the ghost on a photo. Scary!

  • I got a couple of evp's. I did an evp session in the native american room. Not sure what its really called. And I got an evp that said to "get out." The second evp I got is weird. Because I don't recall doing another evp session. It says "goodbye. love you."

  • @listentothemusicall Weird. How do you do an EVP? I'm guessing it's some sort of recording equipment? How does it work?

  • @CaliforniaTravelTips All you need is a digital recorder. I record with my cell phone. And you ask questions. A spirit uses the energy of the device to speak.

  • @listentothemusicall Interesting!

  • It'd be cool to get some evp's. Going this weekend.

  • @listentothemusicall Let us know what you discover! :)

  • omg i went to this mission to for my field trip and it was fun!!!!!!!!!! even the bus trip was fun!!!!!!!! this mission rules! i remember the story about the girl it was soooo sad and romantic!

  • I went here for a field trip with my class

  • @sketch17ify Hope you had fun!

  • i love social studies

  • I went here for a field trip with my class. It was fun and AWSOME!!!I learned alot. The place was so beautiful!

  • @tiffsittingonatree Glad to hear you had a fun, and educational, trip. It's a gorgeous place.

  • @tiffsittingonatree me too ha i was a little scared when i heard about the ghost there but now i want to go at night and see if it's true about the ghost's :)

  • I went here for a field trip with my class. It was fun and AWSOME!!!I learned alot.

  • @tiffsittingonatree Same! I live in SJ. :) GO SJ!!!!! WOOOT SJ ROCKS

  • I hate how people from other states like the eastern u.s. come to the west and make it look bad.

  • how much do you think that a mission this size would cost today to build?

  • @codelyokoblue Wow, I have no clue. Maybe one of our construction-biz viewers might be able to tell us! :)

  • My dad took me there when I was 7. I remember my dad going through so many rolls of film. I also remember the taco truck that made these gigantic burritos. I miss California in 1985. California in 2010 is almost another place completely.

  • @MikeofWyoming You can say that again. I grew up in Orange County, back when it was mostly all farming communities. South Coast Plaza only had Sears and a couple stores. It's definitely different, with a bunch of phony materialistic people who weren't even born here but think they're supposed to act that way. The traffic is a nightmare too. Sorry..I'm venting. :)

  • @CaliforniaTravelTips

I think I was too. Wyoming has a form of that cancer growing in Jackson.

When I was young we would go there to see the stores and art but now you can't go without spending $12 on a burger, parking 7 blocks from the square, and getting no real customer service. God save us all.

  • @CaliforniaTravelTips by people who weren't even born here who are you talking about?

  • @codelyokoblue Oh, like people from other states.

  • great place to live

  • But San Juan Capistrano belonged to the Spanish Jesuits. Although Bouchard could not win, the USA did, and all those buildings and churches reliquias belonged to the Spanish Fathers.

  • Hipolito Bouchard, another Napoleon Bonaparte!

  • I love the story of Hipolito Bourhard! I think he was a great pirat, but the Argentine's Governmente were too busy to listens to him. He was amazingly brave, coming from South America, reaching up to Santa Barbara and even went to Hawaii, Filipines, Africa and Islas Malvinas at one point. Perhaps he was too brave so San Martin and Bolivar sent him far away. Gosh this Bouchard had Bonaparte's blood... he was a conqueror, big warrior!

He put the Flag of Argentina in California for 6 days! LOL!

  • I live in san juan and go to school at Mission Parish school which is attached to the mission.

  • @awesomeness181 Wow! What a neat school to attend. I also went to Catholic school at Mater Dei.

  • @CaliforniaTravelTips Yea it's a great school. We are blessed to be able to visit the mission a lot. In March we celebrated St. Josephs Day at the mission.

  • @CaliforniaTravelTips Yea its a blessing. I'm actually going 2 high school next year and I'm debating on going to mater dei or public.

  • @awesomeness181 Go to Mater Dei. You will love it! Public school was scary when I was a kid, even more so now....

  • Thanks for posting this video.

I wouldn't concern yourself with ghosts at a Catholic Mission, concern yourself instead with Our Lord Jesus Christ and Our Merciful Father YHWH, with the Holy Spirit. Don't allow yourself to be obsessed by possibilities of "ghosts" which are negative spirits in disguise whose purpose is to distract and lead you away from God's Truth. As the Sacred Scripture instructs us, test the spirits should they appear to see if they are of God.

  • dude thats my tribes place lol...my great great great great g-pa got the main head stone:P

  • ghosts.....strange.

  • haven't been in years good place to visit

  • the mission is haunted. i live in san juan next to neils market.the whole town is haunted.

  • Spooky!

  • @anthonyTERROR Really? I live there too and I've never seen any thing like a ghost.

  • ME TOO IT IS SOO BEAUTIFUL!!

  • Thanks! I agree. It's a very cool place.

  • When I was a kid, I went there too for a field trip.

  • Thanks be to God, They have scheduled more Tridentine Masses at the Mission.

    Sunday: 2:00pm

    Monday:2:00pm

    Tuesday: 4:30pm

    1st Friday: 6:00pm

1st Saturday: 8:15pm, Santa Maria Gracias!

    Deo Gratias!

  • Great news! Would love to attend one.

  • It's actually a Basillica now. It has been for quite a few years.

  • Where's the Carmel Mission ! Its a beautiful Mission and the garden is wonderful as well :) Also do Felton, they have the Roaring Camp RR in Coswell Forest

  • Hopefully we'll get to all of the Missions for video, but it will take some time. I'll also check into Felton. Thanks for the tips!

  • I hear they do the Traditional Latin Mass, the liturgy which is historic to the mission. It is still celebrated in the Serra Chapel every Sunday. Does anyone know what time?

  • Yes! The Latin Mass is celebrated at 6:30 a.m. first Sunday, and 8 a.m. every Sunday using the Latin Missal from 1962. This would be beautiful to attend!

  • I go to the Latin Mass in Alhambra when I can. I am currently working on getting the Latin Mass at my Parish.

  • That's wonderful! I'm sure it's a lovely service. Take care, Veronica

  • Keep working on them! Look up the FSSP they have missions all over the US with the Latin Mass :)

  • I could think of only 2 other California missions that do the Tridentine Latin Mass. Mission San Bueneventura and Mission San Juan Bautista.

  • I hope to make it up to both of them soon. Thanks for the tip!

  • yes very interesting, i always wanted to go to a mission when i was young but never got the chance to go until now that im in college doing a project. The mission is beautiful i recommended students to go if your doing a project on this mission

  • I agree. San Juan Capistrano is probably my favorite, along with Santa Barbara. We have a video on the San Diego Mission, which will be up in a couple weeks. There isn't a whole lot left there, compared to San Juan. Thanks again for the comment! Veronica

  • Hey, have you been in PUERTO RICO?

Well if you do, can you tell me if you have made any videos about it?

(It's just that I live there)

  • Haven't been there, but maybe someday!

  • That is my mission in school

  • hey have u been in the santa Barbra one

  • Yes! I plan to do a video on that one as well. Thanks! Veronica

  • Great video! Thanks for posting!

  • Thanks for the nice comment! I appreciate your kind feedback. Veronica

  • Hipólito de Bouchard wasn't a pirate. He had a corsair license, his ship had the Argentine flag, and all the money he made was given to the Argentine State.

There exists an enormous difference between pirates and Corsaires. If the seconds employed methods vaguely similar to those of the first, they were provided with a letter with mark and reprisals given by a government, who authorized them to attack ships of an enemy nation.

Other than that, very nice video. Greetings from Argentina.

  • Hello loquenoseve.

My regrets about Bouchard. Over here, he is called a pirate in the Mission's official book, The Bells are Ringing, and Wikipedia, which says: "Among the Spanish settlements in California the raids earned Bouchard a reputation as California's only pirate (and was therefore often referred to as Pirata Buchar by the Spanish colonists of the day)."

I understand that he is highly respected in Argentina, so no hard feelings intended. Thanks!

  • Bouchard was described as a pirate trough the mission tour, it is said that he even buried his treasure in the mission and no one ever found it

  • Hello, thewall425! Thanks for your contribution on this topic! Very interesting story, isn't it?

  • I live in San Juan Capistrano i went to the mission in 4th grade on a field trip.

  • Fun! I went to the Mission for a field trip as well. Can't remember what grade. I'm old! :) Veronica

  • i went to this mission!it is so beautiful!what creeped me over there was the graveyard

  • Thanks for the comment! Yes, the graveyards are always a little creepy... Just move on to the nicer areas. :) Veronica

  • And yet when I think you can't do better, you produce another stunning video. This is a place I'll visit for sure. I saw two other missions during my last trip to California in the spring of 2008.

  • Thanks Tim! Aren't the missions great?

Mission San Juan Capistrano is especially beautiful, and the ruins of the Great Stone Church are just amazing!

It's hard to believe we have buildings dating back to 1776 here in California! When you come out again, we'll give you a personal tour followed by lunch at Cedar Creek Inn (our personal favorite!)

    Thanks again Tim!
