@MrRon752 It's very difficult to provide better instructions than the directions on the video in this forum. We'd suggest finding a local Schutt dealer in your area and seek out his assistance. Or, perhaps an equipment manager or athletic trainer who's familiar with the helmets. We're not trying to ignore you or blow you off, but the video is the best presentation we can do, without being there by your side.

QUESTION: What is the purpose of the small loop on the sides of the facemask? At 0:27 on the video above the chinstrap is slipped through this loop but that makes it impossible to remove the facemask without cutting the strap. Latter in the video the chinstrap is connected to the helmet underneath the facemask.

@thegraymatters1 The loops you're referring to allow the chin strap to be attached to the helmet through the faceguard, instead of a 4-pt high attachment. Because of the very issue you described - not being able to remove the facemask without cutting the chin strap - we are now making the 4-pt high attachment the standard attachment on the ION. With the new Quarter Turn release system that's now standard on the helmet, you can now remove the facemask in just a few seconds

TheReconhd: Sorry to hear that, we do have a new ION HC hard cup that is coming with the ION and I personally think it's pretty comfortable. It uses a soft form fitting foam. When it comes out in the spring, check it out hopefully that will work for you.

deputyricky: This procure is only for emergency removal so you would need to replace the faceguard retainer just like you would need to replace loop straps on a traditional hook-up. The ION guard system is un-like traditional guards as it attaches into the shell opposed to just on top of it so Yes you would need to purchase an ION specific guard. Check out our site for more info on the ION.

apasang: Yes you can put a 4PT high hook-up on the ION, and it's super easy. There is a very small "pin prick" on the shell that you can drill through the shell and put a chin strap snap on. Once you have that installed put the chin strap on first then the guard.

You still have to cut the loopstraps up top idiot. you are only talking about the quick release on the side. WHICH YOU CANT EVEN PUT ON THE TOP! So you HAVE to cut the loopstraps for removal. PLUS have you ever tried putting a quick release back on. It is not so easy a baby could do it. Its so hard a grown man can barely do it.

Koaj: Actually the Faceguard Removal Video is specifically designed for removal in an emergency situation, when you do not want to move the player's head a trained professional would cut the faceguard retainer and the chin strap to get to the player's air way for medical support. If you just want to take the guard off and put a different one on you just unscrew the faceguard retainer just like a standard loop strap attachment.

Nrivas28: Your best bet is to contact your local dealer for availability. All ION 4D helmets come with a very small "pin prick" that shows you exactly where to drill the hole for a 4PT high hook-up. It's very easy and you shouldn't have a problem.
