@FishplateFilms It was all pretty casual, the onlookers weren't really getting in the way from what I saw, so they weren't to fussed about it. Once the cranes set up I suspect the area would have been cleared.
I reckon there will be a few days over Christmas fixing that up.
I once saw a high speed derailment in Merredin WA a few years ago, container cars piled on top of each other with the bogies ripped off, amazing the amount of damage and the forces involved.
And yes, it would be good to see some recovery footage.
@gm16v149 Getting back up there christmas day to get more might be tricky !! I was hoping the cranes would have started by yesterday morning when I was there.
I have a lot of memories of Danald, was up there as a fireman (aka engineman 2, Loco assisant, second person) on temporary transfer over the christamas period of 1976 -77, at the time of the Granvilee train disaster, went through there while on temporary transfer Maryborough, in 1996, the place has changed so much. In those days had Vinelander, yard pilots, another pass from Donald to Melb, the Fruitflyer, Goods trains & wheat trains from Meringur & Murrayville. Good video of derailment.
@MickFix The grain lines nth of Korong Vale are still open. This should be re opened in another day or so, assuming they are working at the moment to clear it.
"I'm sorry, honey. My job got derailed and I'm caught up at work. I won't be back at the train yard for Christmas." said one of the hopper cars to their wife.
I went the last Friday and there was only 3 wagons there and the cranes had removed the other ones and they were fixing the track

Wow how odd for a car to lose its bogie like that, great video though and hopefully you might get some recovery footage during the next few days :-)
