  • a magic 4 mins...enjoy

  • Jimi would have loved it.

  • LOVE this ladies voice...Have ALL her CD's...

  • Fabulous! Interesting that where Jimi plays a guitar-solo intro, Angelique Kidjo puts an African lyric... I can't help but wonder if this song goes back much further than Jimi and has its roots much deeper in African, rather than African-American culture...

As this is the first time I've even heard of Angelique Kidjo, I thought I'd miss Jimi's guitar soloing, but somehow I didn't... Kidjo's is a fantastic sound, unique and sufficient unto itself! Will look out for more of her work!

    :)

  • WOW!!!!!!!!

  • Entrei aqui pra ver uma banda fazer feio Voodoo Child e vi uma banda reinventar a música. Gostei

  • OH MY GOD HER VOICE IS Magic.

  • Angelique is BbbbrriLLiant :-)))) xxx

  • fuck yeah...... its the shee..it

  • She is phenomenal. I saw her in New Haven at an outdoor concert and she was so happy, so intelligent, so nice -- and then she just KILLS every line. Her voice, her rhythm, her phrasing... it can't be better than this, just different.

  • this may sound crazy, but i think i like her version better than even jimis or stevies

  • WOOF!

  • I'm checking out the various covers of this song, and this one's unique, one of the very few without 10 minutes of guitar riffs. Still, it's pretty cool with a different type of arrangement, smoother and less raw than the original.

  • Saw her last night in Oakland, she owned it- and shared it.

  • its voodoo child slight return

    change the title son

  • I saw her perform tonight and she sounded even more talented than ever. She's always amazing.

  • bloody amazing.

sent shivers down my spine !

  • is so great my god i love all on this vidéo !!!i love you for ever !!!

  • Jimi's ancestors are from Africa, he would dug this version.

  • Seems like troll bait at first, but it works.

  • omg this is good

  • if you really listen to jimi's version you can hear some of that african roots, i mean it is called voodoo child. jimi could hear things and sounds we couldn't because he was guided by a higher power.

  • This reminds me of the happiness seeing this wonderful lady and her band live in Ghana - Thanks for sharing as we all should

  • Solid version with crisp drumming, smoky bass and a cutie backup singer @2:30. Can't ask for more.

  • Love this woman! And excellent song!

  • Love this.........

  • effin sweet!! The vocals and the band are simply mindblowing! Love the spin on this and the rhythm!! Is that the bass line for sade's 'cherish the day' @ 1:34?? LOVE IT!

  • Jimmy is poppin a woody. This is a phenomenal artist doing justice with her cover of this Hendrix classic. What a voice!

  • This is so trippy. I just don't think African roots when I hear Jimi, but when they started singing the opening riff, it all just fell together for me.

  • very very good

  • KOOL!

  • großartig!!

  • OMG...I love her ! she was so inspired by the music that turned me on way back when...her inspirations.

  • AWESOME

  • Truly Wonderful ! A whole new way to hear this ! I just love it when artists re-interpret the music of others. NOT try to just copy and cover !

  • I heard an interview with her. She said she just loved the song, but the only guitar player she would let do the song would be Jimi. So no guitar. She did an awesome job.

  • I love Jimi but this better than the original. Take that Sinclair 1973

  • @wayfareru the singing can compete with Jimi but I don't hear any guitar in here.

this is an honest version but I don't think u can love Jimi and say such a comment

  • Jimi Rules as KIng -But the Queen is alive and in da house!

  • very nice ! です.

  • Samba Pati feat. Roy Hargrove - African childhood Music Video

A nostalgic recollection of old photographs from Angelique's childhood in West Africa, set to the rhythm of SAMBA PATI feat. Roy Hargrove (OYO - 2010).

  • Best version ever, Angelique is a force of nature.

  • Thats Hulk Hogans theme song

  • I like it better than JH. Thank you Jimi for giving her this song. RIP

  • FUCKED THIS SONG ALL UP didnt you

  • gracias hendrix, y disculpa esta aberracion

  • lmao!!

  • awesome!

  • Comment removed

  • fucking good

  • soulful aright but check her out on Lightning in a Bottle - never forget

    that performance

  • yeah, she is brilliant on that DVD lightning in a bottle...the whole dvd is amazing

  • This is actually cover of J.H.´s Voodoo child(slight return) not Voodoo Chile, that different song:-}

  • @PerttiKy doesnt that make you mad too for some reason }:( lol

  • soterosv -- I saw her also on "Sessions" and was amazed. Can't fine it anywhere. So sad. Such an great performance.

  • i saw her perform this on David Byrne's PBS show around this time, Sessions from West 54th Street - i wish that version was available here. I was awestruck then, and this performance is great too. The sound is so phat and tight and the backup singers so smooth in their choreography, it is spellbinding, living way up to its title and Hendrix's original...
