@Jennifr1966 On the net I have found Experiential Avoidance as part of PTSD and peritraumatic dissociation. These would be on the SEPCTRUM of dissociative disorders of which DID is one of the most extreme ends of that spectrum. In 1995 I wrote a book called Exposure Anxiety; The Invisible Cage of Involuntary Self Protection Responses. It covers compulsive avoidance, diversion, retaliation responses and I see it as a forerunner to my DID but also a major part of my autism.
So is it correct that a person can have DID with predominantly '2-dimednsional' roles, as opposed to DID with more fleshed out selves? It seems both could develop and fit within the umbrella of the diagnosis.
@fulishproductions My view is that where someone has only 2D roles, its probably BPD with associated dissociative traits including derealisation, splitting, but either not truly DID or its more like DDNos rather than DID. The treatment would also be completely different... where its roles these are not parts of the Core Self... where its fully fleshed out alters these are more likely to be split away varied re-combinations of the personality resources of the Core Self.
@myranagels the real question is if she's the original, the Core Self, how has she come to leave it to everyone else in your system and what would she require from your present life to feel safe enough to begin to be fully present in the body again
@myranagels The Core Self will always be the original one, the first self. So it won't be one who appeared at 19. It would be whoever had the earliest memories. I remembered back to 6mths-2 years. The others could only remember after 2 and a half. I was the most 'dead', thought I was a ghost, but clearly I am not at all once I started to get back into the body - reluctant? of course. But my team had become co-operative, done great work, they made it safe for me to come back.
My daughter has something called disassociation avoidance. I didn't know this til I was looking through her records. Is this anything similar?
