  • FML, i just realised there is literally NO WAY fucking possible to TRULY relive a childhood...there never will be. this is the closest we can get..

  • I love when they take songs and turn them into music videos from other movies. Couldn't you just see a fan made Harry Potter video based on this song?

  • I love this movie so much...epic nostalgia...

  • I remember this was like one of my favorite movies ever. :D I'm 16 now but this is pretty awesome! Love the song! this song just echoes with memories of watching Old Disney cartoons and watching this of course, and all the other awesome Disney movies that made television go round.

  • i love oliver and company it has the greatest opening, always makes me vry and has other wonderful songs aswell

  • This song makes me cry. <3

  • Even though Oliver had no real relavance to the movie. Useless dumb cat.

  • @PrinceShion maybe so, but if it weren't for him, the movie would have no conflict

  • @pollyisagoodbird Unless you count the debt collecting thing. LOL

  • Made me tear up, I love this movie. It's been so long...

  • Once a pon a time in Cincinnati, OH!

  • :_) Keep your dreams alive in a once a pon in CINCINNATI OHIO or where ever you live.

  • This song makes me cry sometimes. Poor Oliver...

  • Man, I love this movie and this song. I always sing along with it in the beginning. Who doesn't love this movie and all the songs in the movie? Man these songs are catchy, you can't help but like em.

  • How do you DISLIKE this? This song is beautiful, makes me so happy to hear... Oliver and Company is such a great Disney movie!

  • @Bella4Chrissy Meh...it's probably a pair of trolls wanting to put down a good song for the heck of it...

    Personally I don't care. This song's too good. I'll turn a blind eye to them...for now...rofl.

  • Omg, we have this old Disney CD FILLED with Disney songs, and when we played it in the car, this started playing <3. And tears started rolling down my cheeks, this was too special [:

  • He sure hit the nail when he said the City's tougher than most

  • Nice song.

  • I love this song! I miss quality movies like this :)

  • I cry at this song sometimes.

  • EveryTime I Hear This Sonq Sometimes Without Watchinq The Movie, And Btw I LOVE IT, I ALWAYS Seem To Cry At EVERY Sad Part :(

  • How could someone dislike this?

  • Only 2 dislikes. :D Everyone loves this song and movie. It's a fact. ftw.

  • This song gives me the biggest Chills and flashbacks of my life, i can clearly remember watching hearing this song and watching the movie on an old tv on the floor with a blamket and all my siblings

  • @MegaAstroFan18 Yeah and then he went back and clicked it again

  • This is the only song that never fails to make me cry!

  • As a kid I listened to this song till i wore out the tape LOL

That being said its still a decent song :O

  • @Blue24U

you had the soundtrack on cassette too as a kid? and you saw this in theaters back in 1988? i was 7 and i saw it 3 times during it's original release and i had the merchandise such as the soundtrack, stuffed Oliver, Mcdonalds stuff, Readalong book with cassette, pVC toys, junior novel, coloring book etc. did you too had the same stuff? and did you also wondered what happened to it when it didn't show up on video the next year or 7 years

  • @Johnlindsey289 I did indeed have the casette LOL. Saw it in theaters once but LOVED it. No stuffed Oliver but I did get some of the McDonalds toys and maybe a coloring book. I was a bit miffed that it didnt show up on video I was like wth?!?!?!?!

  • @Blue24U

I Lived in Omaha back in May 88 till May of 1989 before moving to Albuquerque, i still remember the theaters in Omaha and St. Louis. i use to go to my video stores asking if O&C will ever come to video and they didn't know and took 7 years, i did see the re-issue at 14, bought the CD soundtrack and got the movie the first day on video. Weren't the 80's/early 90's a great time to be a kid and the mid-late 90's a great time to be a teen? seen Great Mouse Detective in theaters too?

  • this is my favorite disney film :)

  • how can two people dislike such an amazing song

  • @MewCircuetOfficial Rosco and DeSoto, maybe?

  • this song makes me shiver...

  • I loved this movie so much when I was little that I named my kitten Oliver, even though he has gray and chubby!!!

  • I LOVE THIS SONG. and this movie, and all the other songs in this movie too, but this one is my favorite, its so beautiful.

  • Oliver & Co. was my favourite childhood film; I watched it again the other day for the first time in years (I'm 16 now) and I cried multiple times! Such an underrated Disney classic! :')

  • I'm getting goosebumps!

  • I remember watching this movie first-run in 1988, and it still sends a chill down my spine every time I think about it. This, and "The Little Mermaid," paved the way for Disney's Renaissance--and its invasion of Broadway, a topic that I recently did a presentation on.

  • @MavsFan1982

Were you 6 years old when it came out? 7 here and i saw it 3 times during it's release in 88 and i had the merchandise from Mcdonalds stuff to Soundtrack. Did you too had the merchandise? this was a hit and so was Great Mouse Detective as both started the golden age. Did you ever wondered what ever happened to this movie when it didn't show up on video the next year on video? i wanted it and had to wait a longass time, did you see the re-issue as well at 14?

  • @Johnlindsey289 Oh yeah, I was six when I first saw "Oliver and Company;" I saw "The Little Mermaid" and the re-release of "Bambi" in 1989 at the age of seven. I heartily remember all the merchandise and how Disney was trying to form a successful franchise with "Oliver," but "Mermaid" actually became the more successful franchise. Keep in mind, though, that "Oliver" wasn't released on video until 1996.

  • @MavsFan1982

I know, i was pissed off as a kid when i was 8 as i would ask my city's video stores the next year if it will come to video and they didn't know, i wanted it. It took 7 years and i waited, i saw the re-issue when i was in junior high and also got the soundtrack on CD and got the video. Did you also see Roger Rabbit, Song of the South, Aristocats, Great Mouse Detective, Rescuers, Ducktales Movie as well as a kid? nice to meet another 80s/early 90's kid like me

  • @MavsFan1982

And Bambi came out in 1988 not 1989, do remember having the Mcdonalds finger puppets and ornuments of this movie plus the soundtrack, readalong book with cassette, stuffed toy from sears, PVC toys, PJs, T-shirt, readalong book with cassette and that kind of thing?

  • @Johnlindsey289 unless you mean Bambi was re-released then you are wrong. Bambi originally came out in 1946.

  • @Spudfish93

I know that, Bambi was re-issued many time even in 88.

  • This song makes me cry, because I work as a dog trainer in an animal shelter. Keep dreaming my babies..your forever home will come<3

  • I cry everytime this movie starts!

  • My top 17 disney movies are Pinocchio, Aladdin, Emperor's New Groove, Fox and The Hound, Sword in The Stone, 101 Dalmations, Rescuers 1 & 2, Bambi, Lion King, Mulan, Beauty and The Beast, Great Mouse Detective, Robin Hood, 101 Dalmations, Peter Pan, The Aristocats and Oliver and Company.

  • bought this movie in the early 90's... still have it!!!!! best disney movie ever, no other can compete with it. Disney movies now a days suck!!

  • @Toronto324 i got this in the 90's to

  • @Toronto324

I grew up with this movie too since the 80's when i first saw it 3 times when it came out in theaters and having all kinds of cool O&C merchandise including the soundtrack. I was pissed off the next year when it didn't come to video or the next as i would be asking various video stores in my city if O&C will come to video and they didn't know, it just disappeared for 7 years and i wanted it but i never forgotten about the movie and 96 was about time it finally came to video

  • This entire movie makes me cry. I adore it, so much<33

  • my favourite ever disney movie (yes i love it more than lion king and mermaid) and its also my fave soundtrack :') This song makes me cry, and so does "good company"... im an 18 year old lad by the way haha!

  • best song in the movie with why should I worry as a strong contender

  • If i go to NYC i'll definitely bring this movie with me!!!

  • @PhillyRomantic yea gives me sad memories to what happen in NYC in sept, 11.. WTC attacks..

  • It's hard to believe that I can relate this to a more cheerier song that's set in a cheerier american city at perhaps a cheerier decade in the 20th century. Can anyone guess what that song is?

  • It was 20 years ago today that the song's lyricst, Howard Ashman, passed away.

  • I love this song! I remember my friend came over aaaaaages ago and had brought along Oliver and Company and The Fox and The Hound with her. Whilst me and my sister watched this downstairs, she went upstairs and played with my older sister.

  • I'm i the only one here who saw this great animated comedy classic on the big screen when it came out in the 80's and had the original merchandise including this soundtrack on tape? i can't be the only one.

  • I Personally would have had Randy Newman sing this song...but hell Huey Lewis is Just fine with me.

  • The most uplifting song ever made...keep your dream alive, dreaming is still how the strong survive, they're getting your place prepared....so beautiful

  • Guess the 1 dislike was Sykes.

  • @MegaAstroFan18 hahaha xD yes now i think the same XD

  • @MegaAstroFan18

Sykes is totally badass, he reminds me and looks just like Clarence from Robocop

  • @MegaAstroFan18 And Rosco

  • @MegaAstroFan18 guess Sykes made a friend 2 people are heartless, this song is awesome

  • Ah this song is so beautiful and wonderfully performed by the legendary Huey Lewis.

  • As far as Disney opening songs, I'd put this second only to Circle of Life.

  • RIP Howard Ashman

  • More inspired by Oliver Twist than an actual adaptation, heh. It's still a great movie though.

  • @MegaAstroFan18

Well what do you expect from disney, there's no problem in changing some stories like Little Mermaid which had a sad ending originally then went happy no problem. It is an inspired by OT kind of film than true adaptation, but it's a fresh for it's time American take on an old tale as it's the same as Let Me In was a suprisingly good American adaptation of the Swedish vampire novel that was filmed in Sweden as Let The Right One In.

  • @Johnlindsey289 Don't respond to 2 month old comments.

  • @MegaAstroFan18

    What's wrong with that?

  • @disc12ful that's what disney does best

  • never segregate things by age

  • i love this movie i watched this all the time when i was younger

  • beautiful! what happened to disney :'(

the best truly have come and gone

  • @RobertBigKeyz It's true, they tried to water down the films for younger audiences, or clone Shrek after that film's enormous success. Modern audiences and filmmakers seem to think comedy > heart work and have no idea how to mix the two. OaC had some funny moments, so does Aladdin and B&B and so on, but they have heart too. And I know how people complain about Disney sequels, but in recent years they've been the only films keeping the spirit of Disney animated films alive.

  • "keep your dream alive... dreaming is still how the strongs survive..." after a broken heart, the greatest words to hear... :')

  • @KNOceanSoul Fully agree ))

  • @KNOceanSoul Yeah, but the line "How can anyone stay starry eyed, when it's raining cats and dogs outside, and the rain is saying 'Now you're on your own'?" can be the worst you hear during a broken heart.

  • i cant watch the video for this song cuz i cry wen i see it

  • this movie is so underrated when i looked at the critics making criticism about this movie it really pissed me off, this movie is one of the examples of why i don't like critics

  • @cartoonkingforeever

Critics always suck dick, some of my fave movies were trashed by critics like Carpenter's The Thing back then and now it's a praised classic.

  • @Johnlindsey289 yeah did you also know that the critics bashed the movie labyrinth

  • @cartoonkingforeever

And Dark Crystal as well but Mick Martin and Marsha Porter gave both Dark Crystal and Labyrinth with The Thing and Oliver and Company good reviews? they made DVD/Video Guide since 1985 with Video Guide. They gave TDC 4 1/2 stars out of 5, Labyrinth 3 1/2, O&C 3 1/2 and The Thing 4 1/2 stars.

  • @Johnlindsey289 cool

  • I can't watch that bit. I always end up bawling my eyes out. The part where he's tryna keep warm and the box bursts and he nearly falls in to the gutter. I always worry he won't get out even though I know he will.

  • 1 person didn't find their once upon a time in new york city

  • Proof that the 80's KICKED ASS!!! Our children are just not going to get a better experiance than this!

  • @saraguy1921 actually this came out in the 90's

  • @cartoonkingforeever 1988 was the theatrical release this movie saw life in 1995 or so when they released it on vhs and in 2008 this movie got a special 20th aniversary release..

  • @Fieldsfangirl28 sorry my mistake

  • @Fieldsfangirl28

96 to be preciously, not 95. It was re-issued on March 29th 96, this movie came out in November/december 1988 and was a surprise box-office hit for disney as the same for Great Mouse detective as both were the origins to the disney renaissance, i was there when it first came out and saw it 3 times when i was 7 and had some merchandise including the soundtrack too bad it disappeared for 7 years since then and i wanted it on video.

  • @Johnlindsey289 sorry I made a mistake but i was slightly right about the re release to theaters and also it was 1996 when the vhs came back out and also there was a special edition that was released in 2008 and you are right about the original release year and when the movie came out in 1988 also I remember Mcdonalds had special plush christmas things to plug the movie and toys too .

  • @Fieldsfangirl28

Did you ever see this movie in theaters as a kid too and also wondered what happened to it when it didn't show up on video the next year or for 7 years? besides the film has already got a good DVD release in 2002 which i owned and has great extras, i wish they released this on Blu

  • @saraguy1921

Definitely born in the early 80's and experienced it and the early 90's as a kid

  • Best. Song. EVER.

  • Some of you guys don't even know that the man behind the song's lyrics was none other than Mr. Tale as Old As Time himself, Howard Ashman. 3 years after the song was written, Howard lost his battle to complications of AIDS. The latter is the sadder part about this song.

  • I love love love this song!! I tried to look for it on iTunes, but all it has are versions sang by other people, but Huey's was the best! If anyone had or has any luck, please let me know. Thanks. :)

  • @joeperrysbabe youtube download?

  • @joeperrysbabe

Me too, i noticed on your an 80's/early 90's kid like me too. Did you ever see this movie on the big screen back in 1988 when you were 7 too and had the same merchandise like i mentioned including soundtrack to Mcdonalds stuff?

  • I Love This Movie.! And The Sonqq Isz So Awesome.! When I Think Of Thisz Movie I Start To Sinqq Thisz Sonqq. I Hate How I Can't Watch It Cusz My VCR Isz Broken. One Of My Favorite Moviesz Ever. <3

  • This is so touching! Thank you for uploading it! This movie always makes me cry because of its hopeful, uplifting, but discouraging and sad plot.

  • You can get this mp3 at instantmp3s..com

  • i remember when i first saw this movie when i was a toddler i cried a little whilst listening to this song, seeing the poor kitten eventually left alone to almost drown in the rain.

    still a fantastic song

  • Blast of Nostalgia right here.... I wonder if they have this on DVD or am i going to have to go dino mode and find a VCR copy...

  • This one always made me cry...

    -sniffsniff-

  • Its always Once Upon a Time

  • Comment removed

  • This version sounds kind of new then the movie one it's just I don't very much like this version and the song starts at the biginning of the movie and it doesn't start like where the Walt Disney Pictures logo shown when the song starts like that, not like in this version, but I get obsessed with this song, but only the movie one is better.

  • this is one of my fave movies (: I have a Georgette stuffed animal (:

  • Oliver and company was such a cute movie :)

  • @DemiGomezBiggestFan Yeah, i'm surprised they didn't make a sequel.

  • i can easily say that this is one of the best Disney movies ever!

    In my opinion!!!

  • HEEE!! i love this movie!! I just got a little orange kitten and I thought of this song and had to sing it! thank y

  • I love this song so much <3 Known it off by heart since I was about 4 :)

"Keep your dream alive. Dreaming is still how the strong survive" - My motto:)

  • @witchywoman2008 this is such a powerful song

  • HOW COULD ANYONE STAY STARRY-EYED

  • I don't live in New York, however, why does this song make me feel much sader than what I am already?? I guess it just reminds me of myself since May 2, 2010, sorry my boyfriend, Craig broke up with me then, and now just hearing this song reminds me of myself, it's so magical and yet still reminds me of my sorrow while trying to keep my head up high. Besides that, I love this song and the movie!

  • Just saw this movie again after three years.

I had forgotten how amazing it really was. I only ever heard the Dutch version until then, but I have to say, the English one is much better.

Also, I want to visit New York City some day (and this song makes me wanna even more), though sadly I'm stuck in Holland...

  • 1:10

Like says ''Porn time'' ?! O__o

  • @kinjaru123 to a once apon a time that never ends

  • My second favorite Huey Lewis song! The all time favorite is It's Hip to be Square

  • @GameShowNetwork Hip to Square, song's so catchy most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's NOT just about the pleasures of conformity, and the importance of trends, it's also a personal statement about the band itself!!

  • i love this song from oliver and company. its my fave. 2nd is why should i worry =)

  • NYC FOR EVER!

  • so sweet i just love this song i hope tons of other people do to

    great job

  • ...What? No, I'm not crying. I just have a bit of nostalgia in my eye.

(seriously, I forgot how awesome this soundtrack is. I can't find the mp3s on Amazon so I may have to buy the actual CD.)

  • @MysticalChicken you are among friends. Cry as much as you need to.

  • one of my favorite disney songs.. :]

  • i dont know what it is about this song that makes me feel happy and sad at the same time but i love this song

  • This is a ridiculously fantastic song!!! Why don't Disney make their films like this anymore?

  • @morwenmur Because there stupid!

  • @Toronto324 lol XD yeah, that'll do it!

  • @morwenmur because...life goes on...we go through change, theres so many things in the past i look back on and see how everything has changed, sometimes makees me cry cuz I miss it so much

  • This is, in my opinion, one of the most realistic disney movies. I love it so much! :')

  • lol i get what you mean and i totally agree...but i just find it so funny that one of the most realistic disney movies is about talking cats and dogs ahahaha

  • Yeah. X3
