Too bad Admiral Cain was too focused on being morally corrupt instead of integrating The Skinjobs into her fleet, it would have worked out better in the long run if she didn't allow rape a torture. Sure with Adama it was a rough ride but he understood the old adage "if you can't beat them, join them" and it ultimately worked out for the better.
galactica must have been much tougher than pegasus. just look at how the pegasus fell to bits when it collided with a single base-star, yet galactica smashed a hole in the side of the cylon colony just because they needed a way in.
But you realise that Pegasus has been hit by few nukes prior to this event, not to mention rough departure from Scorpia Fleet Yards, stress of blind jump, and long 4 vs 1 struggle against base stars ? Well, Beast kicked the Bucket.... but still, it's BATTLE STAR :D
@starwarsfan117 Actually it was being scuttled.. It was going to be decommisioned to become a museum. That's why they stripped her armor. It was the last day before it was going to be taken out of duty when the cylons attacked.
@starwarsfan117 In the miniseries they never mentioned removing armor plating from the Galactica just the ammo for the main and point defense gun batteries. that is why they had go to Ragnar anchorage to rearm the magazines. now the rib areas are where the point Defense batteries are mounted 512 twin point defense batteries in total and 24 main batteries. and if you get around to watch Razor the unrated edition you will notice that had the exact same armor setup during the 1st cylon war
@GameRock123 Scuttling is the deliberate destruction of your ship. being a Museum ship is a ship being put in display after retirement. now being a museum ship they would leave the armor on the ship in case it was going to be reactivated. that being said they would remove all the ammo from the ships magazines but they would leave the armor alone. besides if you have ever seen Razor you would notice that Galactica had the same armor setup back then as she did during the series.
@GameRock123 the reason i know the about scuttling and being a museum ship is that my dad was in the navy during the cold war. and i took the time to look it up
@stopthesoftkill not really. pegasus' engines were set to blow, that's why she self-destructed. And when pegasus rammed into the cylon basestar, the basestars reactor also blew. Neither of those things happened when galactica rammed into the cylon homeworld
@stopthesoftkill True the Galactica was a tough ship but the Pegasus was already going to explode before it hit the BaceStar, the collision only quickened the inevitable. When the Galactica rammed the colony they were not suffering for multiple fires on multiple decks, and had a crew to keep them contained.
@stopthesoftkill Seeing as how the Galactica was an older ship. I wouldn't be surprised if the engineers focused on making her more tough then anything else. Where as the Pegasus had a lot of firepower and was more advanced in other regards I imagine.
@Oxylepy However it has to do with the now mythical battlestar, Pegasus. Known commanders; Admr. Cain, Cmdr. Fisk, Cmdr. Garner, and lastly up 'till its destruction by Cmdr. Lee Adama, thus saving another Battlestar; Galactica from destruction and enabling the continued existence of the remnants of the human race.
i wish they could have transfered everything to the pegasus instead and sacrificed the galactica it was more battle worthy. But then again the series wouldnt be battlestar Galactica :\
@AnteyPL TNG was poorly acted , had wooden sets, some real bad scripts, went on for several seasons too long and SFX that were more cheesy than stilton. That said - I enjoyed it but it's quality compared to BSG ? Nah... C'mon... Q ??? If you are 10 years old and a real fanboy then it's cool. VOY and DS9 were light years ahead of TNG too. You are entitled to your very wrong opinion too mate. Good to see you were watching a bit of true SF History re: The Pegasus. Well done on that :)
@celmive the Bridge Set of The Next Generation was Low Budget, Tacky. Poorly designed & Built on purpose to look or resemble the Bridge of the Original TV Show or the more Cooler looking TOS Cast Movie Bridge Sets. That way advertisers will pay more money for Commercial Time, & more to be on a show that is not a retread of the TOS Commercial Time on TOS was Cheaper in Syndicationthan TNG . If they had given TNG a Bridge like in the Movies. Then no one will see the Movies; Less Profits : (
I agree that first seasons of TNG looked unimpressive, but it *had* great stories and great acting. Too bad, that mostly done by Steward and Spinner, but still. And good luck trying finding equals to "Measure of Man" or "Inner Light" anywhere else. Problem with TNG is that DS9 or VOY presented more balanced level of episodes during entire run. And honestly, if you think that it's SFX that makes a story... then Transformers or Avatar are uncontested leaders.
And new BSG is what is poor: uniform, bleak characters, poorly played (except Adama), ridicously insonsistent universe .... actually, two things about this show are good: CGI in space and that its...well, Battlestar Galactia. And Tricia Helfer perhaps. Stories are sleazy and unconvincig, storytelling is annoying, too much Gaius Baltar, too much retrospectives.
Wanna Good SF ? There's Stargate for younger part and Babylon 5 for rest of the audience.
@AnteyPL I agree. I think the new BSG will be seen 15 years from now, with the perspective that time provides, simply as emblematic of our declining American civilization -- with its endless war and more than a hint of fascism in its public discourse. It's (even physically) dark, the characters are fairly complex yet mostly unredeemed, it went on 2 seasons too long IMO and you know, the humans were so nasty as a rule that I was rooting for the Cylons from the start.
I agree - and you know, that's exactly what I liked about TNG. It warned against such behaviour; just watch "Drumhead" and analyze with greatly overrated and overused GWOT. There was also good episode (Hunted ?) about taking care about veterans. And it's nicely to compare Picard's speech from Measure of Man with Greystone's speech about Cylons in Caprica.
Respectfully, I disagree - BSG only looks better in certain aspects. Well, it's almost two decades difference in CGI... I still like BSG (only universum in sci-fi were fighters actually make a bit of sense), but I consider some actors, most of writing, almost all stories and overal coherency of ST:TNG as far superior. I think R. Moore screwed this series just like he did to ST:DS9.
Why did Admiral Cane shoot her original first oficer since i missed that and how did the cylons get aboard pegasus and how did the humans end up defeating them and how many of pegasus' crew were left after the on board massacre. And how many friendly colonial ships and people did pegasus scavange and kill for spare parts????????? Can anyone explain.
Star Trek Next Generation, episode "Measure of Man" - where Data's (android) rights are questioned and (sucesfully) defended. Brilliant one, I might add.
My point exactly - Data 'talaroned' himself and Scimitar because as android, he received decent treatment from his creator race. Unlike the Cylons. "What goes around, comes around".
@AnteyPL Admiral Cain had it the wrong way around. Her true imperative should have been to protect whatever was left of humanity AT ALL COST. In essence she should have been willing to sacrifice the military if that's what it takes to save humanity. If she had had her way, she'd have sacrificed humanity to save the military.
Which is the episode when the cylons come onboard their big ship somehow and start killing everyone onboard.The episode is mainly focused on a samll group of people who are trapped in a room scared and stuff,and in the next room you can hear the cylons shooting and people screaming etc...
What episode in the series is this,or what is the name of the episode.Please help :)
well the battlestar atlanta is the biggest of the battlestars mentioned by the battlestar pacifica. other battlestars include battlestar vortex, battlestar prometheus, battlestar columbia, battlestar valkryne, battlestar titan as well as battlestar pegasus and battlestar galactica.
So, I'm not overly wealthy, but being a huge sci-fi fan, My goal is now this: To own, after successfully purchasing every season of the new Doctor who, to purchase every season fo the new BSG! The library only had the first two seasons, an only half of the second one! I must see the rest!!
IN my opinion, in the actual episode where the Pegasus was destroyed, they didn't make it as epic as it could have. The music in the episode was just, weird, and not epic and as fitting as this. That's just my opinion
what a sacrifice of the pegasus. i wish we could live in times of space travel, at least find another species out there. be the first to know that we are not alone. but we are trapped on our planet, fighting each other for the little resources it has to offer. it's sad when you look up to the stars and you know that you cannot reach them. really depressive. at least we can live our dream with epic series like battlestar galactica.
what a sacrifice of the pegasus. i wish we could live in times of spacetravel, at least find another spiecies out there. be the first to know that we are not alone. but we are trapped on our planet, fighting each other for the little resources it has to offer. it's sad when you look up to the stars and you know that you cannot reach them. really depressive. at least we can live our dream with epic series like battlestar galactica.
theres still battleships, but they float on water, journeying exotic lands and peoples, you can get a pretty basic view of the world from research but things can change drastically and the world can be every bit as mysterious and different as any scifi. problem is your looking at it from a fixed point of view. every crazy thing youve ever seen or even thought of has its roots on our small planet, its an almost infinite source of dreams.
The first season I knew Battlestar was a good show, but once I saw the Pegasus shows. That's it. I knew it was a million times better than star trek. I couldn't believe a show this good could be on TV. It was mind boggling. every episode was triggering dopamine in my brain. then when I go back to network TV, I was bored. This and DEXTER on showtime are the best shows.
It's a matter of taste, but Battlestar Galactica ranks somwhere between ST:DS9 (R. Moore...) and tries to approach ST:VOY. It doesn't begin to compare to ST:TNG or Babylon 5 or, hell, even Stargate SG-1 anywhere except CGI (where it naturally shines). This series - with exception of actors, turned out to be HUGE disappointment for me. Too much retrospectives, one-dimensional characters, terrible technical in-universe consistency... little respect for canon and TOS doesn't help
Excellent vid, actually makes Razor look better than what it actually was. Razor was enjoyable, I will give it that, but from the various tales that Fisk told Tigh, I expected Razor to be a lot darker and that there would be much more to it. Also, supposedly Lt Thorne saved several lives at some point, as many characters alluded to, but this never appeared onscreen. If I were RDM, I would have cut the "present tense" storyline from Razor and just focused on the Pegusus story alone.
@erentheca Google "Tesla Scalar Weapons" and you will see hundreds of informative links that reality is indeed stranger than fiction. There are weapons today beyond Battle Star Galatica
@ComradePatriot Actually no they arent that advance of a weapon. While controlling the atmosphere might be impressive. It really has no point in space as weapon.
@vvpassat Because when it mattere'd most Pegasus didn't do her job, Her maniac commander (Kain) left the people she was meant to protect to die in space!
Well done man. I have NEVER EVER seen this show and the movie's and have always wanted. I was just about to get into watchnig all the episodes of BSG, then caprica came on TV so I'm getting into it, I have alot of watching to do lol. I have a feeling I'm gonna be a major fan of BSG as I watch. Great video mate! well done! Cheers, IC ( A future BSG fan no doubt lol)
The inclusion of the Pegasus in BSG was brilliant. As a viewer it gave you hope and made you feel powerful in watching. It's rescue of Galactica has to be one of the best moments in the show.
I am probably the only one who did not like the Ramming FX that ended Pegasus. Heck I think she should of rammed through the Basestar Completely...then the two exploding simultaneously.
Also the gap between Pegasus' destruction and her ripping apart a hole for Galactica to escape..was sorely missed.

@OlympicAirPilot
theres still battleships, but they float on water, journeying exotic lands and peoples, you can get a pretty basic view of the world from research but things can change drastically and the world can be every bit as mysterious and different as any scifi. problem is your looking at it from a fixed point of view. every crazy thing youve ever seen or even thought of has its roots on our small planet, its an almost infinite source of dreams.

it's cool to see starbuck in the last season of 24!! unfortunately she isnt allowed to say frack or other of her good words!!!

This and DEXTER on showtime are the best shows.
brandon98188 1 year ago
@brandon98188

@AnteyPL
I have to dissagree. Battlestar is better than all other science fiction shows. Star trek TNG is the second best.

AWESOME...... Hated how Ensign Ro died in the series, but this was a great video....

If I were RDM, I would have cut the "present tense" storyline from Razor and just focused on the Pegusus story alone.
erentheca 1 year ago
@erentheca Google "Tesla Scalar Weapons" and you will see hundreds of informative links that reality is indeed stranger than fiction. There are weapons today beyond Battle Star Galatica
ComradePatriot 1 year ago
@ComradePatriot Actually no they arent that advance of a weapon. While controlling the atmosphere might be impressive. It really has no point in space as weapon.

@vvpassat Because when it mattere'd most Pegasus didn't do her job, Her maniac commander (Kain) left the people she was meant to protect to die in space!
That was her retribution.

As a side point, other T.V just kinda sucks unless it's BSG, Deadwood or The Sopranos.
I would include Lost but I gave up on that when they started the retarded time travel episodes.
TheRealGrimRainbow 2 years ago 3
Nice video.
The inclusion of the Pegasus in BSG was brilliant. As a viewer it gave you hope and made you feel powerful in watching. It's rescue of Galactica has to be one of the best moments in the show.

Music = suck.
Even first year rock guitarists can think of better violin lines.

Nice Vid.
I am probably the only one who did not like the Ramming FX that ended Pegasus. Heck I think she should of rammed through the Basestar Completely...then the two exploding simultaneously.
Also the gap between Pegasus' destruction and her ripping apart a hole for Galactica to escape..was sorely missed.

she did wat she had to do and i think if she was kept alive she would of won the war and kick some cylon ass

she sacrificed tooooo much. by the end of the war she would have sacrificed most of the fleet
orgilzrorgilzr 2 years ago
but the rest and the crews of galatica and Pegasus would of lived happy lives
