@FuzzyforGears Well, I'll admit it's nice to drool over graphics and framerate, but it's the gameplay/story that matters. For instance *FLAME SHIELD*, Fallout 3 was considered to have to have amazing graphics. I found this true, to an extent, but I thought the gameplay and story were a piece of shit.

But there were tons of interesting lines written in it. It kinda makes sense something like religion made it through to the future, book of Eli had the same idea I believe. But they ran with it much farther. I'm by no means a religious man; I just like a well written game, and fallout series fit that for me.

In short, the game is an allegory to playing video games as a whole. We grind and grind, and wait for the payoff that is the boss. That's why the bosses in this game are even more bombastic than bosses in most other games, and that's why they have their own themes. That's also why Travis got FURIOUS when Henry stole his kill of Letz Shake. That whole level was purposefully mindless boring killing, so we, the players, felt let down when the boss was taken from us as well.
@Foilsdown You don't seem to understand that yes, in fact, there is philosophy, symbolism and messages in video games, just like any other art form. No More Heroes is silly, yes, but it also has some philosophies, namely, deconstructing the typical anti-hero, as well as serving as an allegory for fucked up people who not only see no issue with killing people, but absolutely enjoy it, as if there's nothing else to do. But they do what they're told, by "rules". Travis is an allegory for gamers.

She doesn't want to die; she wants to know how Travis could just leave the assassin world behind, as if it was nothing, when they are all stuck killing each other habitually, in essence, an allegory for the addiction to violent games.

It shows that you have a very linear and basic outlook on life and are doomed to lead your life in such a fashion. Games are a medium like music and art which can portray emotion and psychological themes whether you like it or not and No More Heroes and No More Heroes 2 are prime examples.

It only looked like graphics didn't matter back then because, well, no one had the technology to create the insane graphics we have now. What looks crappy now might've been revolutionary back then. They've ALWAYS strived for better graphics, but yes, in a game itself, gameplay comes first and foremost. I agree that gameplay is more important. I disagree that graphics never mattered.
@Aulmeyda I always found graphics to be almost kind of like an extra. Although great graphics aren't absolutely necessary, good graphics make a game with good gameplay even better. Graphics may not be necessary, but when I play a game it's always a bonus to have good graphics =P

In short, the game is an allegory to playing video games as a whole. We grind and grind, and wait for the payoff that is the boss. That's why the bosses in this game are even more bombastic than bosses in most other games, and that's why they have their own themes. That's also why Travis got FURIOUS when Henry stole his kill of Letz Shake. That whole level was purposefully mindless boring killing, so we, the players, felt let down when the boss was taken from us as well.

@Foilsdown You don't seem to understand that yes, in fact, there is philosophy, symbolism and messages in video games, just like any other art form. No More Heroes is silly, yes, but it also has some philosophies, namely, deconstructing the typical anti-hero, as well as serving as an allegory for fucked up people who not only see no issue with killing people, but absolutely enjoy it, as if there's nothing else to do. But they do what they're told, by "rules". Travis is an allegory for gamers.

Suda said that the game was meant to focus on social issues, and while there are plenty of weird, wacky things that shouldn't be read into too deeply, there are a few things that do show something deeper upon scrutiny. It's actually fairly obvious. It'd take a lot more than just one YouTube comment to prove that, but I did at least show one thing.

@Foilsdown She's the one who counts the most; she's the most sane person Travis has ever fought, and only she was able to open Travis' eyes to just how sick and twisted it was to turn murder into a sport, and to be so addicted to killing, that it becomes habitual. She doesn't want to die; she wants to know how Travis could just leave the assassin world behind, as if it was nothing, when they are all stuck killing each other habitually, in essence, an allegory for the addiction to violent games.

@Foilsdown Nope, I deleted my original comment because I made a mistake with the layout of the comment. If you can't find any meaning in this game then fine, but that's your loss. It shows that you have a very linear and basic outlook on life and are doomed to lead your life in such a fashion. Games are a medium like music and art which can portray emotion and psychological themes whether you like it or not and No More Heroes and No More Heroes 2 are prime examples.

It only looked like graphics didn't matter back then because, well, no one had the technology to create the insane graphics we have now. What looks crappy now might've been revolutionary back then. They've ALWAYS strived for better graphics, but yes, in a game itself, gameplay comes first and foremost. I agree that gameplay is more important. I disagree that graphics never mattered.
