@Phymec i'm using fracture tool in blender, but, when i simulate on game engine, the entire object breaks. But i saw your simulations, some parts break and break again as it crashes on the floor. How you did that?
This would be the most amazing thing ever in a wargame. Imagine actually bombing enemy encampments and having proper physics effects for every explosion. Physical bomb craters in the ground, and actual debris flying everywhere. You can create actual grenades; the damage that grenades do isn't in its explosion but the schrapnel that it shatters everywhere, ripping through flesh and bone. Goddamn...
After they break into shards, you can *tell* that they are little voronoi sections. Not physically real in the slightest -- but who would ever really notice? ;)
@otonanoC You could use a texture map for broken surfaces to sell this more. Combine that with a bump map for the type of fracture (glass, pottery, stone, wood) and a specular map and I think you would approach the "real-enough" threshold to convince people that this was real at first glance.
Phymec, I love you. This is one of the greatest developments in blender I've seen in a long time. But now you've hooked me, and i want to know and see more! Please give us an update! A release date, month, year? An update video of new tests? Even just a comment would be greatly appreciated! The blender community is watching!
Just a quick thought: By assigning a completely dry .wav file to each surface type, representing a single collision with this kind of surface, the sound of each little collision could be calculated by mixing the assigned .wav of each surface 50-50%, and then adjusting the volume based on the kinetic energy of the impact (volume = mass1*mass2*speed^2 or something like that) and thus rendering the sound of such a collision as the ones displayed here? That would be awesome.
the only thing "unreal" i see that could be improved upon, and believe me i dont know how to do this stuff -it is amazing, but the saucer and cups look as if they too are made of stone as well..in other words the blocks of rubble(thickness of it) in all of it seems the same..where if you actually shattered a cup and saucer there would be ultra thin shards...this is coming from a 3D outsider LOL, just an observation i love your work
@Phymec You should partner with someone that works with materials to bring more reality to the collisions. After you follow my advice you will be unstoppable!
From watching this, can any of you see the day when we get a living bacterium working inside a simulation like this? Then, a human mind? And beyond that, something greater than our own minds?
@Phymec Holy crap, are you planning on integrating shatter physics like this into Blenders game engine?? (BGE) Id be very interested in that happening
@Itasiwwfir well once he releases the tool you can change it so it suits your liking. This is a demo, you can make the chunks as big or as small as you'd like.
In few years blender will be competing with other 3d softwear what you have to pay like hundreds of bucks. We can see that blender has made an big to 3d world with the realase on 2.5 series.I wonder what the next 2.7 will be.
We have all cycles, game engine, all the psyhics, all the thing what we could imagine in 2 years ago.And that all is free.
@Lumpiluk Cycles is a wonderful full featured renderer, but unfortunately it cannot make use of »my« GPUs at all, whereas (the more simple) SLG exploits them fully, so SLG is a lot faster. SLG is a dev/test platform for the OpenCL accelerated components of (the full featured) LuxRender.
@Phymec Actually Cycles is not fully featured at all, it is missing A LOT of features and is not even optimized yet, OpenCL support will come sooner or later as well.
I have been meaning to test SLG for some time now but I can't seem to get it to work :<
I think the fact that it has to render overnight is a bigger hindrance than consoles at the moment... Sure when you can render it in realtime the filthy console serfs will still hold us back, but at the moment neither is close
its just great, but on most scenes most of the pieces are too scattered which isnt too real. But i loved to see the some scenes where the part of the mesh is keeped
@mrbuckethead18 Looks like the force is transfered though the body (which is at that point colliding with the ground really hard), so it just shatters up towards the neck and head. It could also be because its spinning so much, tearing apart weaker areas like the nose. Watch the bunnies ears at that point as well, its the sudden stop and effects of momentum which rip them off.
@redbook5544332211 Go to the luxrender forums and register an account. Login and you can see the GPU Acceleration subforum. It's hidden without a account
is there any timeline as to when this will be released? I don't care if it's stable, just give me something I can mess around with xD Oh and I don't have any programming skills so the code I have no idea how to use ;)
1. Is it possible to "select" the faces that are in the beginning in the middle of the object, so where the object actually breaks? Because then you could give them a different material and let smoke rise up from there. Would be good for more realism.
2. Furthermore i'm wondering, whether you could get a result where the parts of the broken object look more beveled? And could you then cut away these parts you got with beveling, because I miss smaller parts in the result.
I want it in 3D!!

To give you some constructive comments:
1. Is it possible to "select" the faces that are in the beginning in the middle of the object, so where the object actually breaks? Because then you could give them a different material and let smoke rise up from there. Would be good for more realism.
