@searme, How do you opperate the pneumatics? And would it be possible to put a stirling or similar motor on the output to generate the air pressure needed for the gear changes?
OK, so I feel this is how it works, the driving ring selects which are the gears to be engaged, and the pneumatic cylinder just moves the driving ring to select and engage the appropriate gear.. so the driving ring is basically like two individual clutches with a different but similar purpose.(Traditional clutches engage the engine output axle with the input of the transmission unit or the gearbox.)
i somehow am unable to understand how your mechanical devises work. i am relatively inexperienced in lego mechanics. The way your projects are explained is rather technical. Would it be possible to explain how it works in layman's terms?
I really wish lego would expand upon the pneumatics, or at least sell them more often.

brillent job id give you 100 out of 10 good job. where did u get the rpm gauge from

I gotta ask, when a gear is a 1:1, isn't that the same speed the motor goes?
knightrider1545 6 months ago
@knightrider1545 Yes, it is.
searme 6 months ago
@knightrider1545 example 1:1 one rotation of the engines crankshaft is one rotation of the drive gear,
2:1 two rotations of the engines crankshaft is one rotation of the drive gear

wath can you do with the nano meter? limit the pneumatics air?
BIueFalcon 1 year ago
@BIueFalcon Measure it. That's what the meters are for, aren't they?
searme 1 year ago
@searme wait, i dont get it, does it just show how many air there is (left)?
BIueFalcon 1 year ago
@BIueFalcon Yes. You see, you get it.

Lego has come a long ways since I last played with it when I was 14 years old.
Nice work!

I think the explanation is as simple as possible without including the whole basics of mechanics.

could you tell me what sets have the small pneumatic cylinders?
Hey573 2 years ago
You're aware that this is the large pneumatic cylinder used here?
searme 2 years ago
yes im aware but i was just wondering

Good job dude!

how do you get the pneumatic cylinder to stop at the middle?

I stopped pumping.

HI you build very great things
at the moment i dry to build an old tractor with 5 gears but it doesnt work because the axes break if i drive in a low speed

Amazing! I've always dreamed of a design like this! Excellent work! Very useful...if I had the parts to build it :P
krudmuphinstudioz 2 years ago 2
Can you use a Linear Actuator instead of those pneumatic parts? I only have the actuator and I want to build this into a design.
NFSTurbo554 2 years ago
Nope. It's way too long and it would be very difficult to mount properly.

Amazing work!
Just like an automatic transmission
im working on a 4 speed that has a a hi and low like a big rig transmission just less gears than they have
legomaniacman 2 years ago
That's very clever.... :)
Now all we need it to fin a gearbox like the one in super car 2009: It had 7+r, and it was completely sequential, only driven by motor....
