  • just to clear up the origins things, holden a branch of vauxhull and pontiac made these cars origianlly in australia, then the bigger brands bought it off. the orginal name of this car was the 'monaro' before it was changed when bought to GTO.

My 94 Exporler will corner better. It's straightline speed is awesome. Cornering is borderline at best.   • @MrKjmay I have driven new 5.0 mustangs, both stock and modified, and let me tell you either one of these gto's would beat one hands down. I was not impressed by the new 5.0 at all really, kinda disappointing actually when i think about it. The same day i went to go buy a new 5.0, they had a used 05 gto with 18,000 miles on it in perfect condition, i test drove it right after the mustang and i went with the gto. Alls I have on mine is exhaust, cai and a solid drive BMR drive shaft, and i win.

I grew up at ennis and kennedale watching drags every time they had an event, i have been racing pro stock for 5 years now in a 2002 camaro with a twin turbo ls1 as my drag car. Im about to get into circuit with my gto when i get some more mods done on it. I havent had a mustang beat me yet, and im close to stock as far as mods go, pretty sad if you ask me.

    I have done some research, the incorrect version is only used in the USA.

    I also found this:

If I want a car that is class and can go a million miles I will but a Mercedes Benz. Majority of gm cars are meant to be cheap daily drivers with the exception for a few models and makes. All those comments were about was sticking to the name and having a body that is more name approved for the gto, seriously it looks like a cobalt.

    Chevrolet has never built a car on the V-platform. The Chevrolet Lumina was a W-platform, front wheel drive car.

    The only Lumina that was built on the V-platform was manufactured by Holden, and sold in the Middle East and South Africa, not Europe.

    The Chevrolet Lumina that you are calling "complete shit" was built in America. That is why it is shit.

    The current model Lumina is on the Zeta platform, it is a completely different car.

    Holden did not use LS1 engines until the 2000 model VT Commodore.

    Between 1969 and 2000, Holden designed and manufactured their own V8 engines at the engine factory in Melbourne, VIC, Australia.

    Between 1948 and 1985, every 6 cylinder Holden engine was also designed by Holden and manufactured in Australia.

    The Alloytec V6 in the VZ and VE Commodores (and Pontiac G8) is also a Holden designed and manufactured engine.

    So who's the twat now ?

    It's not even an American engine. The LS1s, LS2s and LS3s are built in Canada.

    The only Holden with a US built engine is the W427.

    There is not really much of the GTO that was manufactured in the USA. The platform, body and interior were manufactured in Australia. The transmissions were manufactured in Mexico, and the engines are manufactured in Canada.

    The current model Holden Commodore (since 2006) uses the Zeta platform, 100% Australian designed. The current model Chevrolet Camaro also uses the Australian designed Zeta platform.

    Make sure you know what you are talking about before you post shit.

    1980 was the beginning of a bad run for Holden. You don't see many VB-VK Commodores around any more, they all fell apart.

    But where Holden differs to Ford, is by the end of the 1980s Holden started building good cars again. Ford Australia didn't build another decent car until 2002.

  • It would be nice to see 2 LS1 or LS2 with the same exact mods and boost # run a Centrif VS TT set up. I know all out builds the TT way is best but again it seems for the price to play on these cars the Procharger and maybe those new TVS 2300/1900 blowers are the way to go. The TT kits usually don't need a set of headers though so that is a def. plus

  • yeah typically a supercharger seems better for a v8, with the pully's and all but the new sts twin turboes dont even void stock warrenty's! cant get much better than that.

  • OK. that explains alot as I was in assumption that both were stock internals. Would you agree that if both were stock without meth the Dsc-1 LS2 should outrun an LS1TT car. Was this an APS, Genn TTR kit or a custom job. I ran a stock LS2 cars years ago at Atco. I went 12.97 @109 bone stock and he went 12.5 but at 117 LOL. And he really couldn't drive. i was impressed. I believe he had a Dsc1 model as well. Seems like the centri cars are more impressive on a stock car than the TT cars

  • If it sounds like it's eating bricks I am assuming he was in the TT car because Procharged cars do have that sound and also the Atomic Orange was only offered in 2006. I had an 05 and it was not out yet. I'm kinda of surprised a TT stock(I'm assuming stock) LS1 pulled like that. Granted the LS1 is a bit lower compression so more boost can be ran but an LS2 Procharged car can run hard..especially if it's a D and not a P model as it'll be way more efficient and 10PSI can be hit with less heat.

  • um... the TT car was 10 PSI and meth injection, both were stick cars also. but the cam in the TT car was actually spec for that car. the Orange car( which i tuned also) didnt have a FI cam it had a big na cam. (his choice not mine) its all about the combo

    big n/a cam is completely wrong for a turbo car. It's not as bad for a supercharged car and it will gain power from a big n/a cam, BUT it's still not ideal.

  • @cheffy84 Dude I was only messin' with ya. before you mod that thing see what you can do stock. I had an M6 and was able to go 12.97@109 at Atco BONE STOCK. Just watch that 3rd gear syncro. I busted it twice and also blew the rear twice. I powershifted once and that broke 3rd the other time it happened on a regular shift. I used Amsoil fluid i the trans after that and it really smoothed out the shifts too. Good luck. Spice Red is nice but everyone knows Quick Silver was the faster:)

  • GTO/Monaro is pretty much a 2 door version of the VX/VY/VZ Commodore. Which is an Australian invention. Your welcome. They would have been the ulltimate Australian road car if they had the factory 355 Holden 5L EFI from the VR/VS HSV GTS Commodore.

  • You are making the assumption that the Holden 5 litre engine would be unchanged in 2009 compared to the 1999 version.

    The predecessor to the LS1 engine (the LT1 engine) was a cast iron block just like the Holden engine.

    Holden has been building alloy engines in Melbourne for more than 4 years. There is no reason (apart from economics) that Holden could not build their own alloy V8s.

    Think about a V8 version of the LLT engine? Quad cam, VVT, direct injection. That would be something.

    The VT Series 1 had the Holden (Aussie) 5 litre V8. The 1999 VT Series II got the first LS (Gen III) engine used by Holden.

    But look at this: The Gen III in the VTs was only 13% more powerful than the HSV version of the Holden 5 litre. But the Gen III had 14% greater capacity.

    All of that "American technology" and alloy construction really didn't gain much over the cast iron engine that was conceived by Holden back in the mid 1960's.
