  • Who was your teacher? Your style looks very much like David Herbert's from the SF Symphony. Great job!!!

  • @Symphorch I had a few main timpani teachers by that point- Bill Wiggins (Nashville Symphony) and John Feddersen (North Carolina Symphony). Thanks for watching!

  • Do you know gabe? cause i can see how he got so good

  • @demox1321 I do know Gabe.

  • matt jordan??

    from viking??

    this is amazing

  • Hey would this be at all possible doing any of the movements on just 5 drums?? This is because i want to do a timp. solo but none have been appealing but this one. and my school only has 5.--32,29-26-23-21.

  • wow... i'm amazed how timpani sounds like. i'm not yet used to listen at these kinds of percussions. anyways, good job, dude :D

  • does anyone here know any good mallet percussion solos? I dont have enough timpani to do this song.

  • Nice job! Keep up the good work! I would love to play this for my final recital but could you please tell me where you got the recorded accompaniment? I have the solo part but need an accompanying part!

    Thanks

  • Thanks! I got the accompaniment from Steve Weiss. I put both the track with click and the track without into a multitrack editor, so I could have the click track in my headphones, without it going to the speakers.

  • Where can I get this song too I cant find it anywhere also. And awsome Job by the way.

  • Nice job !!

  • I am starting to learn the third movement (only the third) of this same piece. Is it necessary to have the size drums you listed below? My school only has two sets of: 32", 28", 25", 23" and one 21" (9 drums in total). Can the third movement be played with those drums or are other timpani required?

  • You can definitely do it with those sizes. Good luck! It's a rewarding piece, for sure.

  • Great job on this! My teacher was actually the soloist in the premiere of this piece and he just played the recording for our studio last week. Great piece!

  • Great job. How are each of the drums tuned?

  • Thanks! the tuning from the bottom up-

    32"- C#

    32"- E-F

    32"- starts at A

    29"- starts at C

    26"- starts at E

    23"- starts at F

    23"- G#

    23"- A

  • @timpnazi

Im trying to figure out the break down of this, are the 2 drums on the outside which can not be tuned, the 2 23" drums you have labeled at G# and A?

also, do you think it would be possible to do this with 8 drums of a set of...

    32,32,29,29,26,26,23,23?

  • @nickstix The two outside drums are a 32" and a 20" or 23".

The sizes you listed would be possible, but you would have to get your 26" up to F#, and the 29 would be fairly low in the range, but it would work if you needed it to.

    Good Luck!

  • Great! What mallets are those?

  • Those are some custom mallets i've made. They're probably most similar in design to the Cloyd Duff #1's, but are a little bit heavier than those mallets tend to be.

  • supreme performance.

    magnum opus.
