  • Hi Lee, Great video. I recently visited Peter's gallery in San Diego and the salesperson at the gallery said that Peter uses Fuji's Crystal Archive paper, not metallic. This was my first impression as well and they suguessted that I try the Fuji Pearl paper. So I bought a 16x48" wide print and it is hanging in my studio and the look is amazing! Have you heard of this paper or if Peter does indeed use the Kodak paper? it is cheaper than the Fuji too! Thank you!

  • Very good.

  • Awesome work lee. Now i'm going to get some gator board.

  • How much did the print cost?

  • @FStoppers Let me see if I got this right... in the end you just printed it on metallic paper and you skipped the plexi sandwich? and just tapped it to the back of the mirror?

  • SUCH AN AWESOME video!!!

    my only issue...

    the never-ending-forever-repeating guitar loop...

would much rather have silence VERSUS that loop over and over for the whole duration of the vid.

juss sayin...AND STILL LOVE THE VIDS REGARDLESS!!!

  • Microsoft ICE is free and considered by most to be the forefront technology wise for stitching large amounts of JPGs together. Unfortunately you can't stick your RAW files straight into it, so you keep the 16-bit data, but if you get everything nicely setup and exported to JPG it does an amazing job.

  • this man is beautiful

  • Does anyone know a website that does this print on the cheap that is available in europe? Portugal or Germany, if you can be that specific.

  • Why mount on the mirror? Why not (off the top of my head) replace it with a (balsa?) wood panel? All you really need is the frame and a back piece, right?

My reasoning for this thought is supersizing small photo frames. So, wouldn't that make it lighter? You could also use the mirror for other projects that way.

  • Do people care about quality anymore? First, Lik uses, Fuji Pearl, face mounted to a polycarbonate, single piece liner, Roma frame. Here is why costly. Facemount=high production failure rate, expensive polycarb, expensive liner, very expensive frame. Problems with video. Frame=cheap plastic=easy to spot low quality. Print=exposed. Mounting=not smooth and horrid in 6 months.

You would only be able to sell this to people who are CHEAP, they don’t even want to pay $150 for your final result.

  • Mounting onto foamcore isn't that difficult, get a friend or two to help lay it down, a little bit at a time, and keep checking that you're aligned. Use Super77 spray adhesive. You should do a tutorial for that next time!

  • Great stuff, thanks for sharing all your effort with us.

  • Lee, thanks very much for taking the trouble and the time to make this extremely informative video.

  • Hey Lee, I was checking out Bayphoto and the various styles of metallic prints you can get. I'm curious as to what you got (High gloss, sheer etc) or, if you've seen all styles, which do you prefer and why? Thanks!

  • @shaun365 You are looking at prints on a slab of metal. Mine was printed on "metalic paper"

  • @FStoppers Thank you. When I was digging through the bayphoto site I was like "$60?! Did he get a friend discount or something?" A print on a metal slab at that size would have been like $350.

  • i go to adorama all the time and allways get matalic kodak

  • This is absolutel gold! thanks for posting!

  • Great stuff.

  • D7000?

  • Lee, how many megapixels do you have to have on your camera to blow up a picture that size? I own a canon 40D and have not been able to get something that big in 3 shots

  • @tonyf80 I still had to upsize it in Photoshop. It's a 16mp camera

  • @rlmorrisphoto Thanks for the prompt reply!!! Can you make a short tutorial on how to upsize a picture on PS? I really have no idea on how to do it!!! BTW, you guys at Fstoppers are doing a great job! Keep up the great work!

  • @tonyf80 Just make a new document the size you want (58x24inches at 300dpi) then copy the picture into that and go to edit, transform and then make it the size you want

  • that is SO beautiful. that tape job was awesome hahaha.

  • wow, nice shot - that with the Vatican! Which is that place where you got to see this panorama? When I was in Rome I searched for a place like this but I haven't find it (hadn't much time for looking..)

  • Love this tip....Thanx for sharing....

  • Keep updating the channel guys! You're awesome!

    Cheers from Brazil.

  • Thanks Lee, I always love to watch Fstoppers video productions!

  • Thank you for all the tip, it came out incredible!!!

  • Love bay photo. Smugmug uses them, always been happy

  • I really wish I 'm American

  • Great stuff Lee. What camera and lens did you use to take the shot?

  • Wait. Where is the 2nd piece of glass for the front?

  • i love you!!! =)

  • I do frames by myself so I get them very cheap and exactly what I want.

I use skirting board what I can cut to wanted sizes and even paint as I want.

For background I use just glass from glass factory or then plastic from general store. Price for 3x1 meters is about 80 euros so it is 112 dollars. It takes few hours to build and few other to paint/polish but if you have great photo to frame, it does not matter.

  • Nice idea, i'm probably trying this in a smaler format as well, thanks. :)

  • that was helpful, thanks Lee.

    FS Rocks

  • I went to Peter Lik's gallery in Vegas, it literally blew my mind.

  • WOW!

  • Oh I got some metallic prints done only recently and they look amazing in B&W prints, yet to do one as big as yours. Mine I only went to 11x14 but would really love to go bigger one day!! p.s --> Peter Lik fan here in our household too, amazing photographer!

  • that is really great ! thanks!
