Even the 8 inch is heavy, and awkward to transport. When I'm not out at our astronomy clubs dark site, I will use it at my house, and because of tree cover I have to move to see east or west. I'm thinking of modifying one of those 20 dollar compact 2 wheel dollies they sell at Sam's Club. Because it is a pain to move while tube is attached to the base.
I had a bit of a hard time with the object locator. I had two issues, 1 the knob that sets the 90 degrees, had an upgrade in the box to use instead of the original, but I think both of them were the same, but neither worked as in the instructions. I had to add washers to get exactly 90 degrees, which is critical. And 2, make sure the knob on the encoder side is snug, otherwise it slips, causing inaccuracy, after that the computer locator works like a charm.

@nchiley Thanks for the feedback... I haven't been out yet... It's too cold where I live, but I did go into diag mode (hold down enter when powering up the controller) and the Altitude and Azimuth encoders look like they are working fine. I did have to remove the ultra thin washer, under the C-clamp on the Alt encoder because it wouldn't spin with the tube attached (it was hard to move by hand)... Thanks again for the feedback..

Love it! This is exactly what I am looking to get right now. Spent a lot of times on forums and whatnot and this is what is being recommended.
Wondering, have you taken this anywhere besides your backyard? One of my biggest problems would be that I have a lot of light pollution in my area and may have to goto some local fields. I would hate to have a difficult time moving and resetting up... What are your thoughts now that you own it?
@KashiMashiEFD I live in the country, but still have lots of light pollution too. I joined the local astronomy club, and now have access to their "dark skies site". I have taken it there once, and will again this weekend if the weather is good. To transport it you have to separate the tube from the base which is easily done, and you can buy a padded bad for the tube. I haven't made that purchase yet. But now that I have the kinks worked out it has gone back together and aligned easily.
Such a great telescope!

Cool video! Good job... I just assembled my xt8i and can't wait to use it! How do you like yours? Is the Object locator accurate?
