the hawaiian dancer is also apache. She is a former Miss Indian World and is dancing with all the other former MIW's behind the head dancers. Behind the MiW's are the 2008 contestants.
Where are the Aztecs,/ Mayans? I have watched the Aztecs dance and they dance for 4-5 hours straight, like going into to a trance. They blow you away! If Hawaii is included so should Mexico, since California New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, and Texas all belonged to Mexico at one time. I do like the Eskimo she looked so beauitful in her outfit.
@legolas1958 All American countries should be included , Peru also has a lot of things like this , Chile has the Mapuches , Bolivia the Aymaras and Quechuas, in Mexico the Aztecs , and a lot more ,native american people have one thing in common , they are more asian adapted to the "American" environment , we must remember that if europeans didnt have come here the continent name would be diferent and the history would be the truth in each native language ,not the lies that we actually know
@ nativehoney5 okay so you don't get the hawaiian dancer...neither did I until some one told me that it was suppose to be a gathering of NATIVE NATIONS in the boundaries of the US. I guess since we have powwows in Hawaii and that each time they do they, the Native American societies throwing the powwow, honor the Native Culture of Hawaii and a blessing is done in Hawaiian on the land BEFORE the dancers take the arena. I guess we really don't belong.
@nativehoney5 looks like tradish mixed with fancy, mixed with jingle, smoke, etc. I'm used to seeing the different styles entering all at once. I'm kind of digging the Eskimo though.
for the dumb ass who dont kno culture look at every nations language we all call our self THE PEOPLE weith it pikuni the niimiipoo the dine fuck it mean the same thing morons everything was stolen frum us because the white god says its ok manifest destiny
This cooment is for mexican joker. Dude the aztecs were not the most "advanced". All nations had there strengths and their weaknesses. No one nation is better than the other. I can tell you that it does not matter what tribe you come from, whether your maori, samoan, kickapoo, ojibwae, kiowa, choctaw, apache etc. WE ALL COME FROM THE GREAT SPIRIT SO START SHOWING SOME RESPECT.
in laguna i do know that any photos or videos of our dances, the officers will take away the electronic device. but recording on a tape to listen to is different
in what tribe is it strictly forbidden? i've never heard of that before. As far as I know its only forbidden when the audience is specifically told theres to be no photographs or recording of any kind.
@MEXICANJOKER45 thats kind of an arrogant thing to say. is slavery and kidnapping really advanced?
just like the united states and every other super power nation in the world including mexico, they're built on the lives of the less fortunate. and how the hell do you know how advanced any of these people were when the anglos killed 95% of their population in the name of divine intervention.
Love it! The culture is beautiful. When I was a little girl, a local group would come to my school and perform different kinds of dances, and I was always left in awe. I'd love to go to something like this one day!
Also, I want to learn if I am seeing correctly, a meaning of the percession. I see first, the peace-walk of traditional elders? (Please help me learn) and next, (and THIS is where my heart is drawn to) the colorful, powerful dancers... next, again the power of the the steps in women... SO MUCH to see and hear....
my heart is moved greatly by the first nations... powerfully moved. i carry in my white skin a shame that echos a truth my blood line can't deny. on behalf of these generations, i sincerly, humbly, ask forgivenenss. possibly, somewhere in my blood, there is a strand of indian-heart? this rises in me that is best explained by the drum, song, dance and dress. i know of something called reconciliation with whites and first nations. i need to learn more of this.
I am Cherokee Aniwaya (wolf clan), do you wnat to learn more to dance or just be educated?
I am white skin but others tell me FULL Cherokee inside. please are you wanting to know how to dance? or just educate? If you are not native you should not be dancing at all.
No one should be going down the stairs for grand entry should be in line, I danced in one of these i think, this one. not sure to be honest. but i know you have to register to be dancer and line up to dance that is with ALL pow wows in any dance you line up to dance.
Cherokee Princess - If anyone danced at the Gathering they would remember. I was referring to coming down the stairs into the PIT at the Gathering. It's a long flight of stairs and I would be afraid to trip going down the stairs in my Traditional Buckskin dress.
I'm Northern Plains pow wow'er. No need to explain how pow wow's work, I live it.
Don't include all the other tribes please that aren't Anishnawbek. Otherwise, don't call it this a pow wow.
TY

Kind of odd that they don't enter the arena in order. I've never seen a lineup like that.

@MEXICANJOKER45
Aztec is a term used by non-nahua people to describe the Nahua residing in Tenochtitlan, known as the Mexica.
What is meant by "advanced?" Have you ever stopped and thought about that?
