  • This guy must feel like an ass hole now, because 10.04 is godly.

  • Using 'su' is the default way of accessing root privileges on Debian; you have to set 'sudo' up to use it, but Ubuntu's developers have directly ignored the security advise from Debian developers. Canonical pushes out a Ubuntu release even if there are still serious bugs in the system, again they ignore advise from Debian. And some of the problems you're having with APT are actually related to DPKG, and the 'dpkg' command has options to properly handle broken packages. Just letting you know.

  • If you want a root terminal run:

    sudo -i

Dont show users how to enable the root account, its disabld for a million security reasons. sudo -i will give you EXACTLY the same but keeps the root account locked as it should be.

  • My grub is waaay faster than that. Sounds like a bad config or bug. Possibly poor controller config.

Ubuntu isn't the best, No Linux OS is best. Best simply doesn't exist.

They can add the CD as a repo and install network-manager from there if it gets removed.

You should log a bug for synaptic and it's deps. Ranting about it doesn't change the OS. Bugs do.

You are using 64bit and haven't added the PPA for 64bit flash.

Sudo has a grace period by default. You can change the grace period.

  • LoL what a rant, but i agree.

  • about the memory consumption: yes. i was annoyed by that, too. ubuntu uses around 370-380 mb's with a default desktop, and if you turn unneeded shit off in 'startup applications', it goes down to around 250. now that's nice, but i was really surprised when i tried mandriva: it uses 132 megabytes at a full gnome desktop. i mean.. how? :)

  • Lemme guess, you are recommending they go back to Grub legacy.

The title implies that the OP doesn't like APT, why doesn't she go back to Fedora?

  • @runningrabbit07 This video was made last year. GRUB2 has since been fixed more or less.

  • I was waiting for you to repeat your 8 year speech. The fact you keep saying that means you are stubborn and probably don't know what you are talking about. I have been using ubuntu a lot longer than you think and I am not a fan boy. If you don't like an OS, don't use it. Quit your crying and go back to Linsux.

  • @runningrabbit07 If I don't know what I'm talking about then how comes I'm showing solutions to the errors in Ubuntu! Oh wait never mind, I'm not arguing with fanboys.

  • Ranting is trolling. If one is that mad that his system doesn't work the way he wants, then he should have done his homework.

It doesn't help the poster when links are posted in the UF by dE_logics and his incestuous trolling.

  • @runningrabbit07 Hmm, I've used Linux for 8 years, I know what I'm doing. Secondly it's a rant because people find it funny, whether you like it or not it brings subscribers, ratings and comments. It's also extremely funny watching Ubuntu fanboys who have used Linux for 2 weeks get so defensive over it because it's free! It's the internet, it's an OS, turn off the computer and it doesn't exist! Sorted :)

  • Troll...

  • @runningrabbit07 Yeah, obviously, since everything is backed up with proof.

  • Yeah, something seems wrong. I've never known GRUB to take that long to load.

Maybe your PC sucks, or you just suck?

Running 10.04 Alpha3 64bit with a 14second GRUB to desktop boot time. That seems acceptable.

  • Yeah ignorance. It's a known bug. If you have Ubuntu installed on a different drive to the one which GRUB is installed on it can take up to 2 minutes to load.

  • oh lol mine boots up way faster, something wrong with your install or maybe your disks.

  • @Areol08 No, it's a bug with GRUB2, if you have GRUB installed to the MBR of a different hard drive. Don't try and tell me what you think it is because I've been using Linux for 8 Years, I know what I'm doing!

  • @Areol08 It's a bug in Grub 2 Beta.

  • Man I am loving your rants more and more.

  • Ubuntu 9.10 works great for me, using it with a ssd drive (and ext4 filesystem) ....my boot time is under 30sec. I'm not using any beta versions of grub.

This looks like a RC/Alpha release of Ubuntu 9.10.

  • Nope it's the final x86_64 build, downloaded just a few days after release.

  • Another brilliant rant. I love this. Ubuntu really is a piece of shit, fitting with the color scheme.

  • Ubuntu WAS the best. But now it's a downhill slide. Linux Mint is a good Ubuntu derivative, but now I am beginning to worry, and this view is shared by others who use distros based on Ubuntu. I still like Debian based distros but looks like I will have to look for alternatives if Ubuntu won't fix their quality control process.
