'canteen plums', 'beekeeper seeks ruth' and 'the winter cows' are from that gbv tradition of 'indian fables', 'gleemer', 'key losers', 'dusty bushworms' etc and are up there with them. i vaguely recognise them from buying 'SHB' at the time, but like a lot of people i kind of got that 'gbv-overload' and could barely tell what i liked and what i didn't. years later, this is biting.
