This rocket has a two stage solid motor burn... the one you're talking about isn't ignited yet... what you see is the flames from the boosters on the other side of the rocket.
this is actually the last time a big block chevrolet was used to power these rockets. we have now gone to using only hi po 289s with no problems. future missions to mars and beyond will use boss 429s and the occasional turbo windsor : )
