@UltimaGreg Nope, I have seen Clarkson admit that he liked his few experiences on bikes (and was scared witless) and that the main reason he dont have one is because he is so big and looks stupid on one! Infact look at the Vietnam episode of top gear, he clearly loved it! I think the anti bike thing is just another part of the act that makes him such a character to watch and makes for an interesting show. He just likes to get people riled up! :D
@theapeman1989 they put 6.3 on the car because back in the late 60's and early 70's Mercedes had a car called the Mercedes-Benz 300SEL 6.3 (this actually had a 6.3 liter) since this was such an "important" car mercedes basically had history in tradition when they put 6.3 on the c, e, cl, cls, s, sl, r, and, ml class. why they didn't just make an actual 6.3 V-8 over the 6.2 I don't know.

I'm a biker who also loves cars, and i think i speak for many bikers when I say that when we get the chance to go in a properly fast car, we are impressed, but what doesnt impress me is that I would have to spend over 100k to get a car that even then would struggle against 95% of bikes, for example, my 2007 sv650s cost 3 grand, and will happily knock the crap out of my boss's V8 Vantage right up to my bikes top end of 140 ish, where the aston's higher top speed will eventually let it go by

It's interesting to know if bikers like myself who do 0-60 in 3 secs in our sleep would find supercars exciting. No doubt we would but is it worth the extra £150k to be warm, cuddly and safer....hell no, I wanna live my life before I die!
For us bikers, 0-60 mph times remain quite constant, despite bikes getting more and more powerful, unfortunately. Still, 2.5sec kicks supercar butt, not mentioning roll-on acceleration! And for 10X less!

I had an M3 which i thought was fast until I got my bike, so I just sold the M3 cuz it didn't do it for me anymore and replaced it with an old alfa which is simply for the looks.

Probably not quite as quick. Actually DEFINITELY not as quick. THe BMW S1000RR is quicker than the Ducati 1198SP and it lost by a second or so to the Atom V8, so SP would see the V8's tailpipes
@StigRossi It should be noted that the S1000RR lost to the Atom on Top Gear which is not a reliable source for a real comparison. They are not strangers to fiddling with results. I am not implying any opinion of what I think the real result would be, simply that Top Gear is not a reliable source.

Motor Trend did a car vs bike in which the bike won. Autocar has done it a couple times with the car winning once and the bike the other, I think. Fifth Gear has done it a few times with bike victories every time, I think. MCN did one a few months ago in which the bike won.
@campari121 No there is no vid of it doing 1mile race but you can compare the times @ dratimes com or moscow unlimit 500 C",) but i think there is a vid of a Suzuki Gsx-R 1000cc STOCK with lowering doing the mile in 25.665seconds
A 2011 corvette does 0-60 in 4.1 seconds and costs a lot less. A 2011 ZX 10R is also less with better stats than a expensive ducati. Don't get me wrong. I would gladly jump in or on any of these bikes or cars if I had the money.
@Mubble Because you need to spend 200 grand on a car to feel the same acceleration. Even then it still doesn't feel the same because you got this metal shell surrounding you and you don't really feel it in the same way. Fast cars are impressive, but they just don't feel the same as a bike when accelerating fast

I'm not a motorcyclist, but this review is, in my opinion, really good. The reviewer goes through all the positive and negative points, and even concludes on sensible reasons where the car wins out over the motorcycle. He's not looking to use the vehicle as some sort of phallic symbol, or going into endless narrative about feature, X, Y and Z -- like J. Clarkson. He doesn't say the car is a boondoggle, he just points out where the bike wins. And it's with the acceleration. Commendable review.
lol car vs bike... these comparisons are always biased by both the viewers and the reviewers. always a matter of personal taste and ability....its like comparing submarines and commercial aircraft. both were designed for transportation and both have their purpose they just get there vastly different.
@92XJlaredo I agree with you, but it is still possible to compare the SPEED and VALUE at which they get from A to B eg commercial aircraft would be faster and cheaper than a submarine, same thing applies to bikes and cars.
@kostya9999 well theres a simple way to figure out this issue and with no need for the review its called the power to weight ratio...this depicts acceleration on paper quite wildly. for example i quickly went to wikipedia and searched both 2012 models of both vehicles in this test and the benz turns up a whopping (.158) whereas the ducati turned up a puny (.457) as you can see the ducatis ratio is just about 3x that of the mercedes...there is no comparison if you ask me. [bike > car] :)

I don't know a lot about bikes but if your going to test the best bike. You should test it against the best car. e.g Bugatti veryron ss as the sls is built not soul for speed but for style as well. Bikes are cool but all look the same and dot sound as nice and so dot get the girls vote.

and say what you want on the bike - the car will forever be safer, and much more comfortable to ride.
in the end of the day you can't really get to the top speed no matter how mad you are.

@ausingtv so whats ur point? u know there are a lot of types of fast.. fast in straight line and fast in corners fast on brakes fast on accelaration.. the bike is prolly faster with accelaration and maybe also top speed but definitly not on braking and in the corners( i dont know what year ur m3 was) but the newest m3 has the same nurburgring lap time as the kawasaki zx-10r. soo its all personall what u find most fun do u like wheelies and stoppies or drifting and more comfort etc etcc

Probably not quite as quick. Actually DEFINITELY not as quick. THe BMW S1000RR is quicker than the Ducati 1198SP and it lost by a second or so to the Atom V8, so SP would see the V8's tailpipes

@StigRossi It should be noted that the S1000RR lost to the Atom on Top Gear which is not a reliable source for a real comparison. They are not strangers to fiddling with results. I am not implying any opinion of what I think the real result would be, simply that Top Gear is not a reliable source.

@mattmp5 What did he avoid mentioning about Top Gear? That they have done comparisons where bikes lost or that they have a history of fiddling with results? Top Gear is not a reliable source. Motor Trend did a car vs bike in which the bike won. Autocar has done it a couple times with the car winning once and the bike the other, I think. Fifth Gear has done it a few times with bike victories every time, I think. MCN did one a few months ago in which the bike won.

A 2011 corvette does 0-60 in 4.1 seconds and costs a lot less. A 2011 ZX 10R is also less with better stats than a expensive ducati. Don't get me wrong. I would gladly jump in or on any of these bikes or cars if I had the money.

@Mubble Because you need to spend 200 grand on a car to feel the same acceleration. Even then it still doesn't feel the same because you got this metal shell surrounding you and you don't really feel it in the same way. Fast cars are impressive, but they just don't feel the same as a bike when accelerating fast

But next time get a BMW S1000RR vs a Bugatti Veyron or something tuned and race them over 1KM or 1 MILE... they beat the Bugatti in 1mile in moscow in a race against seconds.. Bugatti 26.2seconds and bmw 25.7seconds LOL.. And i read in PB mag. that kawasaki was considering a supercharger or a turbo how fun would that be in a straight line of course.. The bike world is holding so much back, just imagine IF. . . .

I'd like to point out that the SLS is a heavy luxury coupe and the ducati is anything but a heavy luxury motorcycle. compare it to something like a road legal race car ;)
I get the point though, race bikes are way faster because they weight close to nothing and are basically an engine on wheels.

LOL.. still they bully beat down the GTR with the Aprillia and BMW S1000RR in a erlier show.. And don`t mention a LE-MANS carting car witch in some country you get street legal and some you don`t thats just sad.. but the SAD TRUTH is that if you want to beat a bike you need a carting car that pulls 2G in cornering and a tight car track LOL

I'm not a motorcyclist, but this review is, in my opinion, really good. The reviewer goes through all the positive and negative points, and even concludes on sensible reasons where the car wins out over the motorcycle. He's not looking to use the vehicle as some sort of phallic symbol, or going into endless narrative about feature, X, Y and Z -- like J. Clarkson. He doesn't say the car is a boondoggle, he just points out where the bike wins. And it's with the acceleration. Commendable review.

lol car vs bike... these comparisons are always biased by both the viewers and the reviewers. always a matter of personal taste and ability....its like comparing submarines and commercial aircraft. both were designed for transportation and both have their purpose they just get there vastly different.

@92XJlaredo I agree with you, but it is still possible to compare the SPEED and VALUE at which they get from A to B eg commercial aircraft would be faster and cheaper than a submarine, same thing applies to bikes and cars.

@kostya9999 well theres a simple way to figure out this issue and with no need for the review its called the power to weight ratio...this depicts acceleration on paper quite wildly. for example i quickly went to wikipedia and searched both 2012 models of both vehicles in this test and the benz turns up a whopping (.158) whereas the ducati turned up a puny (.457) as you can see the ducatis ratio is just about 3x that of the mercedes...there is no comparison if you ask me. [bike > car] :)

I don't know a lot about bikes but if your going to test the best bike. You should test it against the best car. e.g Bugatti veryron ss as the sls is built not soul for speed but for style as well. Bikes are cool but all look the same and dot sound as nice and so dot get the girls vote.
