Well for you kids--I was in VMO-5 and VMO-6 67-69. Most of our OV-10 drivers were second tour Vietnam pilots who were tired of the suck and blow. A few were helo drivers---so that ignorant comment about wannabees speaks much to the nitwit that made it. I pulled the acceptance check on the first OV-10 that the Marine Corps received and have pictures of it pulling into the airfield at Camp Pendleton. The OV-10A was a pain in the ass to work on as the pubs were all screwed up. Never got to fly .
Well the vid filmer is a bit clueless. But these pilots went through T38 training..aka JETS...and I know a Bronco who went to Tweet pilot..so much for Turbo Prop only pilot..which is really a JET engine..not pure piston power..so scotch that comment..and OV had first LOOK DOWN RADAR.. small airframe. bulb canopy.PILOT could LOOK DOWN and see with own eyes and brain and SHOOT..no need for computer..
Obviously the camera operator leaves much to be desired. I personally know a exOV10 pilot who trained in T-38s..so much 4not transitioning to JETS...duh..and he flew OA37B Attack Tweets..the heavy TAC's..jets..OV were very welcome addition to the Vietnam conflict...its bulbous canopy and narrow airframe makes for an excellent platform the first true Look Down Radar with computer fire control...yup..the PILOT could LOOK DOWN with excellent visibility .and with his BRAIN....SHOOT!
haha nice background music!! i hope thats true f-16!! i wish MARCOS IS ALIVE at this days to acquired those kind of military power and improvemnt!! that other presidents after him is such a full of cowardness and put on there on pockets budget intended for the military power!!! which is going on there own cars! resorts and other wealth!!! which is the time of marcos we are the pwerful miltary on south east asia!!! and now..?? even a bullet cant afford!! shit!! MORONS POTICIANS!!!
My Dad was in Nam with VMO-2 at Danang loading Ordanance as a 6511 I believe. He was there '70-'71 time frame. Any of you Fellow Leathernecks around there at that time???
I'm not, but my Grandpa flew the OV-10 (Air Force) in Vietnam. Don't remember what squadron he was in, or exactly what year, but his name is Victor Connor.
yeah im a filipino and those planes are in cavite near our place coz i live at Las Pinas City. those planes are very old and every pilot that flies that plane has a death wish. and we dont even have a supersonic jet that could fly because they are all decommissioned by our corrupt government.
And They Use that againts Worthless Bandits and Traitor rebels, with matching rescue, supply and evacuation too. and I hope it will use as precision bombing againts the Crocodiles in the AFP, GOD bless PAF
yeah right! Fuck all of them, I wish they would just buy sukhoi's because they are relatively cheap compared with US made F's. Well maybe Gloria Arroyo would like to have a prosperous relation with US. On the other hand, she bought another 18 units of SF-260 which originated from Italy.. and all of them are brand new... maybe they are going to install cannons and bombs on its sponsons again... Fuck... I wanna see F-16s with PAF logos.
Im From Nueva Ecija(The fort), I once joined by Airforce major in SM as we travel along Lil's toy Hobby Shop, I Told him "AFP has a budeget, now here is your P 1Billion modernization program can buy, scale models 1/32 Academy F-18 & F-16, 1/32 Tamiya F-15E and Trumpeter's 1/32 Mig 19 Farmer" or Remotecontrol Helicopter made in China(with 1month life expentancy)!
our PAF can aquired not only F-16's KFIR's SU-30 if our president have a technologically and innovative minded and graduated as engineer in PUP,RTU, Mapua not an graduated from harvard, westpoint Law grads form ATENEO.fuck all this type of politician who let our country outdated.
If i can use the Invented hummingbird choppers and the son of late Capt Villaruel Of PAF who innovates hummingbird allows me to operate armed with Minigun and hellfire missles i want to shut down the crocs politicians and their SUV's with erring drivers who have license to kill pedestrians
Truly great video. It really brought back a lot of memories. I loaded ordnance on them for a year and a half when I was in VAL4. People may laugh at them, but you put 16 zunis and a minigun on there and the laughing stops.
Great video. I went to Camp Pendleton for the OV 10 training and the I was assigned to VMO-4 at NAS Atlanta in the 80's. Love these birds. Thanks for the flashback!
I was a crew chief on the OV-10 at Wheeler AFB during that time. I couldn't tell who the pilot is but I know who the crew chief launching the aircraft is. I was stationed at Wheeler from 85 to 88 then moved with the aircraft to Shaw AFB and was there from 88 to 91, before the A10 were brought in, then cross trained into the medical field.
Hey Monty, I'm pretty sure I remember you from back at Wheeler! The lighting/glare is enough that I cannot recognize who the crew chief was, and defiantly don't remember any of the pilots. I was in the 22nd TASS in the weapons shop from right after the OV-10's came from Korea, and worked some on the O-2 that was put out at the front gate. Was great pulling HI duty straight from tech school.
Too bad the PAF does not have the resources to keep their planes in the air, ie. the F-8&F-5 and now the OV-10. A female LT pilot was killed couple years back, MX? The powerplants, are temperamental with humidty, which is the nature of the PI. The engines have a difficult making torque, unless you have an expierenced mech & parts.
I was a crew chief on OV-10's from 1984-1988 at George AFB in So Cal. During that time i had incentive rides and flew cross country (Back seat of course) to Yakima Wa, and Patrick AFB Fl. I really enjoyed those times, and enjoyed the video, brought back some great memories.
Also, w/27th, ex-F-4 dawg from 35th. Left in 85 w/ cadre to Osan for conversion, crewed 816, then last 3 years as swings expeditor.Moved to Suwon in 89/back to Osan 91.Ended on F-15's@ Nellis & Kadena in 96.Aloha's Al"Hardbroke"
First...the jet engine sound is fake. The OV-10 Bronco has a turbo prop and sounds like a propeller engine [this is not a hit on the poster of this video]. I was station at VMO-1 and the pilots of these birds are the fighter jet wannabes but couldn't make it. No glory in an OV-10. Sadly, these have been disbanded and all Broncos were sold to the Philippines. It was a versatile bird that could drop lots of ordnance and collect intel. We use to bust air born drug runners out of Homestead AFB.
OV-10's out of Shaw were divided between PI and the Columbians, and a few went to the boneyard. Some went out for private (post-demil) sale. One went to NASA. Another (Tail 556?) went to the AF Museum at Wright Patt. I think a couple more went to US forest Service.
January 88? I was a newbie LT in the squadron at that time - the last FAFAC to come on board. Who was the front seater and who was riding shotgun>

I was stationed at Osan AB back in '86 as a Vehicle Operator. One of our OV-10's
lost an engine and had to make an emergency landing at Kimhae outside of Pusan.
Loaded all the AGE equipment and an engine an drove all night to Kimhae. The
next morning, we borrowed a Korean War era manual overhead winch and we,
two air force a/c mechanics and a truck driver, changed out the engines, pre-flighted
and launched the plane in six hours. Didn't need no stinking pubs!

1 These are Air Force OV-10's not Marine Corps.
2.We used the Topgun soundtrack (with it's included jet noise) as a parody(read Joke!), since the OV-10 cruises at only 180 knots.
3. The pilots are not jet wannabes! The OV-10 was a branch tour for Air Force fighter pilots.
3. The pilot of the OV-10 in this video flew both F-15's and F-16's.
4. The majority of the pilots in this Squadron flew combat during the first Gulf War (three years later) in A-10's, F-15's and F-16's.

22 TASS, Wheeler AFB (now AAF), Hawaii. January 1988.
Dead-on on the observations about OV-10 engines.
