  • yes its real

  • Haha, that's pretty great. I wonder how often they do this in cartoons...?

  • Well, there's another one that slipped under the radar.

I like Popeye's reaction after hearing the slowed down clip.

  • also, on the slowed down part the violin is slowed down too, so you can clearly hear that those are the same notes, and that's the proof that the thing that is slowed is the actual voice from the cartoon.

  • it is for real!

you can clearly hear the part when he says "but I don't like that" at the end of the sentence (in the actual sped up part of course).

    Sick :)

  • goood vid

  • One cartoon from 1929 was the oldest record of reverse messages I've heard.

  • Woah, I always thought it just said fast forwarded gibberish.

  • holy crap, great find dude

  • They don't make them like they used to...

  • If you do a sequel to this, make it Speedy Gonzales!

  • Speedy Gonzales never said much

other then "Arriba, Arriba, andale andela"

  • after watching this i did the same thing and slowed down the clip and i was like "whoa its for real!"

  • Baaaaaaaaahahahahahahaa!

  • Wow cool.:D

  • What is a cartoon historian? A film historian who has acquired a wealth of knowledge about the long, diverse, and very rich history of animated films.

Leonard Maltin, Jerry Beck, John Canemaker, Michael Barrier, and David Gerstein are a few. Maltin's name should be a familiar one.

  • HAHAHA i riped the sound and put it into audacity and slowd it down, just to see this was true. and haha it was :D

  • Talk about subliminal messages!

  • and whose words are/were these?!

  • It's uncertain for sure, but the best guesses are either Izzy Sparber, the director on this short, or director Seymour Kneitel.

It's definitely not Jack Mercer (Popeye) nor Jackson Beck (Bluto). I thought it might be Sid Raymond (Baby Huey,Herman) , but was told it probably wasn't.

  • Nice find!

  • Cool

  • haha, awesome

  • Yup, sped up about 150%.

  • Hahahhahaha.

  • Nice find.

  • That is some scary music in the background...

  • crazy stuff

  • Confirmed real :O

  • Interesting ...

  • cool something new;D

  • a couple years back i slowed down the original version of the chipmunks to hear their actual voices

  • Actually, slowing down doesn't really show their real voices, you usually just need to change the pitch.

  • hahaha awesome!

  • wow interesting very interesting ...

  • wow so cool

  • Subliminal.

  • These words are too haard, I don't like words that trip me up!

I swear, those dudes must have had 500 word vocabularies.

  • wow

  • OMG this is actually real.. i downloaded the clip and slowed it down myself! thats crazy

  • That was pretty cool. I wonder what the other cartoons, that used sped up voices, actually said.

  • Excellent bit of cartoon history!

  • thank you

  • Hahahaha.

    That was pretty cool.

  • Sweet! Nice discovery.

  • LMAO that is genius-I wonder if they put that in as a joke/payback after the complaints/if the actor was cool with it and laughed it off/or reused it from an earlier wrong take.

Popeye's what got me into animation-AHGEGEGEGE!

  • Nice find!

  • This is why I love the internet.

  • ..and software capable of slowing down or manipulating anything you want!

  • Ah, the 50s. Life was so simple back then.

  • Cool, nice catch!

  • more of these please!
