  • I guess you can say... the Chinese have huge "junks"... lol

  • China had the power to colonize the world with ease !. BUT THEY DIDN'T !

Yet these days Asian people are often ridicule for every little thing they do, while white people are praise and respected and embraced !.

  • NOAH'S ARK versus, the LIL' TOM THUMB.

    Damn impressive.

  • WOW!!!!!!!!!!

And the scary thing is, some scholars now think Columbus' ship the Santa Maria was even smaller than once thought. The only surviving details of Santa Maria place it at 100 toneladas, or 100 ton capacity which was proportionate to a 60 - 70 foot long carrack ship, and the Nina and Pinta were bothe described as 50 - 60 toneladas, proportionate to standard 50 and 60 foot long Caravels of that era -- so his ship was probably even SMALLER than this model shows.

    AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!

  • 1. 0:09 is not a Carrack.

    2. A 140m x60m (displacement ~20,000 tons) wooden ship is not reasonable. Even in 1900, the largest practical wooden ships were less than 110mX20m. Even with metal Keelsons, these giants were very close to the practical limit, despite being reinforced with steel. Also, the length to beam ratio on the Treasure ship would be very low, causing stability problems.

  • 3. You can go up wind with a square sail. For reference, both square sail (typically Northern Europe) and lateen sails (typically Mediteranean) were found in the west. Square rigs could typically get as close to 70 degrees from the wind, while a fore-and-aft sail, like a lateen sail, could get about 40 degrees. A combination of the two types were used on two and three mast ships of the 15th century, enabling very long distance travel.

  • @DrMMHMD

That's wrong. Chinese junks were the only ship that can sail into the wind due to their sail structure shape.

Here's a link to a Discovery Channel episode of things Europe never invented /watch?v=Ec9OD_uCueg

    Speed to 7:45

You'll see some interesting facts about Chinese ships.

  • @arescraft The documentary cited is full of errors. If I were to believe the documentary, I'd say that the Romans couldn't use arches, the Mesopotamians and Egyptians couldn't use the chain pump, and that Europeans copied Chinese ships to the letter. If I were to believe that documentary I might believe that you can't travel up wind in a full rigged ship like the one shown at 7:45 or that Marco Polo brought over rudders from china (they spread southeast from Northern Europe).

  • @NoOne3234

You should believe it...until you can provide me with actual citing for these supposed "errors".

If you have a trustworthy source, please list. I always like to learn.

  • @arescraft First of all, ever sail a boat? They wouldn't have used massive steel barques up until the early 1930s if you couldn't sail upwind using that configuration.

  • @DrMMHMD 80%? that can't be possible..... it's like 1/12

  • @DrMMHMD hepatitis? not my family. it all depends on where you live though. those stuff never happened to me or around me never seen it or heard of it in my life i guess it could be the case elsewhere though

  • @DrMMHMD yup.

  • @DrMMHMD I'm chinese as well

  • @DrMMHMD lololololol funny cause it's so asinine

  • KKKolumbus was a mass murdering savage

    fucking trash

look whats his legacy now the same violence as he arrived

    today shifted into other nations.

    u.s is evil scum

    all boycott cars&dollar

    nobody needs this ugly dicksuckers

  • This is prove that the Chinese isn't greedy like the Europeans are greedy by wealth and power. After they prosperous by colonize and exploit the local residents with bloody way over many empire and countries around the world, now they act like angels.

  • And the Chinese were set to colonize and pwn the known world... then the Emperor ordered the fleet burned after his death. One of the great wtf? moments in history.

  • Really shows how smart chinese people are! and im white

  • Also, crucially, the Chinese lacked the navigational skills of the Portuguese in the 15th century. The Chinese did not for instance have mariner astrolabes and sextants nor did they have knowledge of the ocean gyres which would have been crucial for any exploration. Columbus made use of the Atlantic gyres in both directions. Additionally, the Chinese lacked the knowledge of the Earth's sphericity so the question of sailing East to reach the Wet would not have been in their mindset at all...

  • @unapologeticmind Remember that this was a century before christopher colombus.European didnt

even have the skill to' island hop 'that far during the early 1400s.These large ships had to sail in the

sea waters because of its large size.Even todays large tanker ships sail close to land but is still considered

in the sea. They dont need to sail far away from the land just to prove a point to you, their purpose was to trade with those countries.

  • But the main difference, which has been mentioned already, was that Columbus was a private entreprenour who sailed with the support of private backers and the Spanish crown. He was not a court official on a mission to show off a vain emperor's might and power. As an explorer, Columbus sailed with state-of-the-art ships called caravels, fast and lightweight ships suitable for the task of exploring the open sea. Zheng He's unwieldy fleet was only suitable for coast-hopping...

  • More from Treasure ship @ Wikipedia: "One explanation for the seemingly inefficient size of these colossal ships was that the largest 44 Zhang treasure ships were merely used by the Emperor and imperial bureaucrats to travel along the Yangtze for court business, including reviewing Zheng He's expedition fleet. The Yangtze river, with its calmer waters, may have been sailable for those ships. Zheng He, would not have the privilege in rank to command the largest of these ships, seaworthy or not."

  • A quote from Treasure ship @ Wikipedia: "Some scholars argue that it is highly unlikely that Zheng He's ship was 450 ft (140m) in length, some estimating that it was 110-124m (390-408 ft) long and 160-166 ft wide instead while others put them as 61-76m (200-250 ft) in length, since in later historical periods ships approaching the extreme sizes claimed for the treasure ships (such as HMS Orlando and the schooner Wyoming) were unwieldy and visibly undulated with the waves, even with steel braces"

  • It's truly amazing, but an amazing * exaggeration* ;) To quote Zheng He @ Wikipedia: "Traditional and popular accounts of Zheng He's voyages have described a great fleet of gigantic ships, far larger than any other wooden ships in history. Some modern scholars consider these descriptions to be exaggerated."

  • wow the ship has canons...Zheng HE ruled..!!!

  • well there ships might have been big but.....ZHENG HE DIDN'T HAVE ANY TESTICLES.

  • @Bamboozle25 Yeah... so imagine what he COULD HAVE done if he still had em? Even their eunuchs are bad ass.

  • @Bamboozle25 good thing he didnt have any testicles or hr would have fucked ur ass thousand times over

  • I just love this.

    Absolutely amazing.

  • I recommend people read Gavin Menzie's best selling books. The first is "1421: The Year that the Chinese Discovered America" , the second is "1434: The Year a Magnificent Chinese Fleet Sailed to Italy and Ignited the Renaissance". Western history is too eurocentric. It needs to be rewritten. Glen Beck points to these 2 books on his show. Search for: Glenn Beck Show (January 14, 2011): China's Rise, America's Fall?

  • God knows what Europe will be today if Zheng He was allowed to carry on sailing. He could have reached Europe after one or two expeditions.

  • its the battleship of the ancient world

  • But, this is not colombus's ship...? Is'nt it a clipper or something like that?

  • Columbus went on sailing to rob, Zheng He went on sailing to trade.

  • If Zheng-He discovered America first, 120 million native american indians would still be alive till end of 19 century.

  • Comment removed

  • Columbus enslaved/murdered a entire continent solely for the purpose of GOLD.

Unlike Emperor Yongle who had the potential to discover America, distributed his treasures among the newly discovered countries.

  • Santa Maria rigging is a tad off.

  • zheng he had 300 ships compared to less than 5 comlumbus ships and zheng he's ship could have tottaly owned columbus. so china could have own europe for a moment

  • @lifes40123 The number and size of ships is poinless. Columbus ships were not trading ships, they were slender ships designed for sea exploration. His mission was not to trade but to find a new western route to the East by circumnavigating the Earth. Of course, anything that he might find on the way which could pay for the trip was welcome. Europe had by this time well-developed cannons and artillery, so the big and clumsy ships of Zheng He were not an advantage in naval battles with cannons...

  • @unapologeticmind lol theres over 80 cannons in just one of zheng he's junk ship... beat that european ships..

  • @unapologeticmind Zheng He's ships were not only equipped with cannons mind you, they have the world's first multi-stage anti-ship rockets and the world's first continuous flamethrower which uses a double piston design. So the ability to turn quickly is of little concern. And the Chinese still had superior cannons at the time.

  • @RoniCMaster

Also, the treasure ship probably did not do battle since the other 270 something ships were all battle ships. Some say the treasure ship is sort of a main command and supply center while the supporting 270 ships were used to battle and carry supplemental materials. Given that Napoleon's Man of War fleet was only 100 and Zheng He's super fleet with 300 ships, which was all the ships in Europe combined at the time, China would have given EVERY European nation a run for their money.

  • HI MRS. MOHAN!!!! :P

  • Off corse you are talking about... Portuguese Admiral Ferdinand Magellan murdered at the edge of the water in Macatan in 1521...

....and 260 years later, in 1784 another European admiral suffered the same fate a little bit far east on the volcanic beach of Kealakekua Bay, Hawaii.... British Captain James Cook was also murdered in the same fashion while trying to land.

  • well at least this chinese explorer wasn't killed by some local tribe leader in some backwater region in southeast asia. unlike some arrogant european explorer out there that got his ass kicked by outdated tribesmen with bamboo spears and etc.

  • @reaperonlineIAM do you mean Magellan?

  • Wow! This is huge. Seems like a carrier of its day,...with support ships and stuffs, seems like a carrier group, so to speak.

  • why the hell must they compare with santa maria?why not the ruse or endeavour?

  • the size of Zheng He's treasure ships is greatly exaggerated in chinese chronicles. A vessel of that size and of that design wouldn't even have been seaworthy

modern naval engineers believe that the treasure ships were only 59 meters long, rather that the 200+ meters they are claimed to be in the chinese chronicles

  • these design of chinese junks were paper thin and flat bottomed. They were designed for slow travel in calm shallow waters.

They would be rolled over in the high seas

  • @Ironzealot7531 I see, is that why they are able to cross through the Indian Ocean and into Africa? It was obviously a purpose-built ship and the fleet was asked with showing China to the world and therefore ocean-going.

  • @Ironzealot7531 Yeah, like how its not possible to construct the pyramid today. Just because you can't build pyramids today doesn't mean it wasn't built before. Also, take a look at the rudder that survived the ship. Going by that, you know the ships are really that huge.

  • How did they steer?

  • They had actual stern post rudders (which, by the way, created the necessity of "maintenance crews" to keep them workable during navigation). The Treasure Fleet had in fact support ships, water tanks ships etc. Awesome if you this it was in the early 1400's!!!!

  • COLUMBUS was a CONFUSED idiot. He thought the AMERICAN INDIAN was INDIAN from INDIA. HAHAHAHHAHAH...What an IDIOT!!

  • That is not Columbus's ship; it's a clipper

Santa Maria was a nao/nau and the other two were caravels

  • zheng he belived in dragons and trusted chinese gods he respected all religion and hates those who are evil (he annihilates them)

  • The chineeseshipwas nuilt toexplore not to kill

    like the EUROPEANship.

  • Genocidal Christianity is a hoax. Christianity is Roman war propaganda against the Jews and nonwhites. New testament was written by Romans to demean and destroy Judaism. Titus Flavius who destroyed the Jewish Temple commissioned the Christian hoax as a replacement for Judaism. Titus' Flavius military campaign against Jerusalem was transformed into Jesus' ministry against Judaism

  • shitty america whit there falsifed history always what they say is the truth NOT

  • also because, china has runned out of money due to large numbers of money put into construction and exploring and mapping the world.

  • Because of the emperor china went bankrupt and inflation went sky high, so when he died, his son took over and order to distroy all the record and burn them all. So many precious human history records are lost, So sad,....

  • Zheng He's ship

  • can we use Zheng he's ship crash into Columbus's ship? oh shit, that would be piece of shit. lol

  • Yup during Zheng He's exploration, they give the maps to the European countries ruler and navigation table for them to direct them to China to pay thier tribute to China emperor.

  • @LuvAu hahaha thats so cute, its like "hey in case u wondering where u go to pay your dues, this is the way"

  • oh and by the way a chinese junk has bulk heads and is made in sections. So while it looks like a European ship, it does not have an internal skeleton. The ship shape is give by a skin around these several connected floating tubs. Thus the reason why the ship can grow bigger and easier to build.

There is no need for a skeleton to support the entire ship. Each section can support itself.

  • Columbus ship with 3 Mastres and 4 and 5 vessesls in each one???

No. only, 1, 2 or 3 mastres with One vessel in the first mastre and one vessel in the backward and two vessels on to the miedle.

and Vasco da Gama ships 3 mastres with 2 vessels in the the two of the back and One of the front.

SANTA MARIA, São GABRIEL, SÃO MIGUEL, SÃO REFAEL GREAT SHIPS. Pinta, Niña or Anunciação(Portuguese) are Caravels, not "Naus" - Barcas(mencioned above)

    Respect Navy and History please.

  • whatever it is the scale adopted and its accurancy, the video shows in the case of the European vessel(format) one ship of the end of XVIII(18) and XIX(19) Centuries, not a ship of the end of XV century.

  • Proud Europeans..The Chinese had long been advanced in civilization but yet they aint proud or Arrogant or boastful as some.. Shame on You

  • 500 years ago europeans conquered half the known and unknown world and IT IS A FACT, Ferndinado de Magallanes and Juan Sebastaian Elcano where the first men to sail around the world, men that changed the world, the whole world, for some guy to call me an idiot and not present REAL evidence is just childish, please read more world history, and while I don't have anything against Zheng He, that proud nationalism is just clouding your thoughts please open your mind.

  • actually there r many mistake on ur western history book.that's why the history channel curve out many ancient chinese investment to show the true.

  • Is this a joke? Firstly you cant compare Christopher Columbus to anyone ESPECIALLY A CHINESE SAILOR. Why is this you may ask well Columbus actually did something that has had a lasting effect, making the west the premier power that it still is today. And of course we all know Columbus' ship was a scout ship not a warship right.I would wager that the Nuestra Santisima Trinidad would sink Zheng He ship. and Z. He ship only had cannons on the back whats with that. And It is so big it is impractical

  • about 600 years ago thats when the chinese build their huge ship

thats 5 times of any european ships

its not called "warships" its called treasure ship, if it is you europeans would been wiped the fuck out. conquerd by the chinese, didnt you ever heard the stories about how frightening the europeans where when they saw some of the ship? they called it the floating city.

what you got against a chinese sailor?

columbus was lucky that he hit america if not he'd be starved to death

  • yeah , and he was hungry until losing his mind , he thought that he was at India . thats why the NA be called indians because of his stupid mistake .

  • COLUMBUS discovery AMERICA was accidental.

The european did not have good navigator. The chinese had advance navigator and they know where they were going. The european did not know where they were going. They thought they were in India.

  • There was a theory that it was the Chinese that discovered pretty much most of today's world (including the Americas)

  • The Year China Discovered The World

  • Are you serious... How about you learn some demographics... ALl of Spains colonies are still 90% native peopl... Just take a look at them they are definatly not european or african. With the exception of Brazil.(Portugese colony). Get an education, it will help.

  • i dont think europe at the time had any weapons such as the ones you are talkin about

like an spanish armada, that was hundreds of years later.. of course you cant compare like that

at the time the chinese had 5000 cannons mounted on their great wall, while europes first cannon is in developement

that gives you an idea that at the time Zheng he was undefeatable

and BTW he has treasure Ships not War SHIPS, He is exploring not conquring like europeans.

  • Columbus was an explorer and his ship suited his needs. Eurpeans were better explorers than the Chinese because the Chinese hid behind walls and it was possible to go around the G wall... A better defense would be Crack de Chevalier. An no one is undefeatable that is silly... What happend to the Turks at the battle of Lepanto... THEY GOT OWNED! The East has never beat the West, and they never will...EVER. China today is a product of western investment... The East is nothing with out the West.

  • the east can beat the west at that time if they want but they just don't want to do that,

they like peace because they r tired with war.

and the huns and mongol r diffrent story.

unlike the europeon, they fire the canon where ever they go.well...the west at that time was the product of ancient chinese investment too.

  • umm... not quite right. Sorry to say Zheng He fleet was about power projection, to shock and awe the uncivilised barbarians of the world. It main aims were not about looting, plundering and settling new lands. And this was down fall of the Chinese Imperial fleet. It was not self financing. If the Imperial fleet had plundered the nations it meet, it would have been cost effective and survived. By the 1430s, The Imperial court needed money to defend the Northern borders, and the fleet got the axe.

  • The reason why the fleet cannot be financed from China is due to the laissez-faire capitalism and extremely low taxes of the Ming Dynasty. The average tax rate was around 1.5% for commercial transactions (sales tax) and less for agricultural produce. Additionally, the salt and iron industry which during the Yuan Dynasty was state-owned were liberalized, meaning there is no longer remittances from them. Thus, the Ming have little money despite China making up nearly 1/2 the world's economy.

  • Jamebug88

If European were better explorer than chinese..Why did FERDINAND MAGELLAN got killed during his voyage?..lol..Even local filipino tribe just use BOLO but got magellan's ass kicked..Magellan used Armor and sword, etc but he still got his ass kicked..

  • Comment removed

  • @Jamebug88 dude the east had made the largest empire in the world. remember genghis khan? what he was from europe? ow shit

  • did it occur to you that Zheng He actually did many things before the europeans did? He was the one who found america, sailed the cape of good hope, and circumnavigated the globe with his fleet. so get an education. it will help

ps. the only reason Zheng He's achievements were never remembered is because records were discovered in 1930 after Zheng He's own were burned and destroyed.

  • the reason why Zheng He record was burned because, when the emporer who encourage the build of the palace and Zheng He exploring, but many peasants and people was unhappy because their working to death building those stuff, so when the emperor died, his son took over the throne and order all those stuff be distroy and restore china to its usual self, thats when china close itself to the outside world, so far thats all i know.

  • huh?

actually the vast majority of those living in former spanish colonies are of majority european blood(inlcuding mexico)

  • the canon was not use to bombard other nation city,it may be use to destroy the rock that might block it way,as u can see the ship was huge...

  • no. those cannon where to put down ships from nations which were less than willing to bow down and pay tribute to the Emperor of China. I believe an Indian king, found that to his regret.

  • ever heard of pirates? Those cannons were used to fend off pirates

  • sonofliberty08, the cannons are their for self defense, as you know at that time, china has been sea trading with many nations, and those ships are also can be used for defense, in case foreign invaders come and distroy those shipping routs that carry goods, and also exploring and going into unknown territory, i doubt anyone could be dumb enough to go bare handed without any weapons to protect themselves in case barbarians started throwing rocks and shooting arrows.

  • the europeon brought desease to the native american , destroy many of the mayan treasure , kill almost all of thier man , and use thier women as maid and sex slave , that's why there is not much pure blood native american on america now .

  • Zheng was aMUSLIM and his mission was humanitarian. Unlike the european CHRISTIAN

their mission were tokilled and colonizeed.

  • amazing evidence I'm convinced, assamble a fleet, to conquer half the world and "come in peace", please present real evidence, not just a little boat model (the size of 20 aircraft carriers or whatever, real proof, like the fact that most people in the americas and other parts of the world speak european languajes, the fact that it was plages not known in the americas that killed people, they where brought by the europeans and not the chinese or any REAL evidence please.

  • its already been proven idiot in the 1930s

  • The Chinese have primative artillary and their sailors have NO COMBAT EXPERICANCE! The Chinese are fisically weaker compared to the Burley Eurpean. NOT TO MENTION SPAINS VETERAN CONQUISTADORS! The Chinese ship also had many tactical erros in its design, for instance far to large(Slow and east to hit) They had far fewer guns and the majority were at the rear. Europeans had many different cannon shot for different situations. Because of Western invesment China is no longer a fuedal kingdom. ty ty.

  • they didn't design the ship for war but for trade.and that's not the only ship on sea when they sail, there r group of ship followed from large to small.

  • Well yeah. They expand the empire through Consent rather than Conquest. But then again, the ships dimensions are more fiction than fact.

  • there is a word on the book of sun zi art of war "to defeat others army without war",this can reduce killing and the harm to the innocent and to keep the peace and stable of the empire.

  • until you find the ship (which is impossible as the 7 treasure ships were broken down back in china). Records indicate that the treasure ships had hulls made of triple layers of planking. And a inner hull of cement made of volcanic ash, which is both light and gave additional strength.

Lastly 3 spare rudder where found in dock yards which the treasure ships were built and those things are huge. If proportional to normal junks, they indicated a 500 feet ship. So 400 feet is possible.

  • And that was just Zheng He's ship our of his FLEET of hundreds of similar ships! There were even ships exclusively dedicated to treasure, others to passengers, concubines, etc. And this guy was a eunuch! He had a lot of equipment while not having any at the same time!

  • Yet somehow the portuguese, spanish, dutch, french and english manage to control the seas with those insignificant little ships, strange how we speak english, french or spanish or portuguese in many lands, and not chinese.

There is nothing wrong with chinese technology of the time, actually it was innovative, but those shows always comparing how "superior", more "advanced" and "grander" everything chinese is my mind a little bit on the far side.

  • well ... because the chinese come in peace and friendly , they did not colonize and use others nation as slave worker or kill thier man and raped thier wemens

  • meeting that ship in actual naval warfare really creates a psychological impact for your men.

  • false Ironzealot7531, chinese Junks have seal compartments means if one part of the ship is flooded the ships still can stay afload the design was inspired by bamboo which has several sealed compartment, the western ships using seal compartment is the TITANIC... you see how far ahead the chinese are at its time in ship technology?

  • @m0rttal That is interesting, thanks for sharing that info.

  • lol, im only thinking about how did zheng he's ship stop at the european dock.

  • I know you have all heard the expression, "it's not how big it is, it's how you use it." The Europeans used those little ships to great advantage for their commerce which sadly included slaves. The Chinese apparently destroyed their ocean-going fleet and never sought to go great distances until centuries later.

  • yeah that expression is used by people who don´t have a big one...lol

  • To Deltasharks:

I wouldn't know. Apparently you are an expert on this "subject" & know this from experience. lol

  • 2 years ago i sailed with 6 people around the Canary Islands. The boat was very small and was a 2 cabin boat. Very little space for many days - let me tell you, it was fun for the first couple of days, but over a week in a tight space(not to mention when you get into a bad weather front and the waves kick up 6- 8foot)- at least for me i will keep it a one time experience. I have done cruises before - and they are much more comfortable and safer.

  • they used the technology of bulkheads, which reduced severly the amount of wood needed. this would have taken only hundreds of trees only.

  • Wow! Zheng He's ship is actually over half the size of a modern-day Nimitz aircraft carrier!

  • WHAT!?

that's absolutely absurd. No wooden vessel(especially a flat bottomed one) could possibly be sea worthy at those dimensions

even the most grandiose estimates of the ship's size puts it at 200 meters in legnth, and even this is highly unrealistic.

Modern naval engineers project the size to be probably a quarter of what is claimed in the histories

  • The reason the ship could be built to this size partly is due to all the seal compartments that the ship have. And the type of wood is of the highest quality extremely hard wood.

  • the ship is semi-legendary anyway, there is little in the way of solid historical evidence confirming its existence

even chinese naval historians admit that if the ship did exist, it was much smaller than has been purported

  • @Ironzealot7531 dude they found one of the ships rudder. and it is big

  • Well I know the story and know what the ancient Chinese were capable of, the scale might be ok but...

This little ship is not Columbus's Caravella. Reall shame and pity they didnt get this one right :/

  • Columbus ship looks hella sorry compared to Zheng He's ship. Zheng He, was a man of honor ...Columbus, was a slaver and a murderer and it's very ironic that we hear more about Columbus than Zheng He!

  • I know. ZHENG HE's ship was more grandeur and his mission is more humanitarian. His MUSLIM faith and chinese culture make him what he was. HENG HE mission is more dignified then COLUMBUS.

  • W.T.H!!!

  • yey Zheng He,s ships rocked nice bit of teek

  • And Columbus' ship was built almost a century later wasn't it? Well...almost.

  • ZHENG HE's SHIP was 500 years ahead of his time.
