It depends on the branch of satanism. The Church of Satan holds "satan" as an intellectual symbol of contrarian values, while other magickal satanic cults like the Temple of Set believe satan is a real demonic being. Their worship consists of doing "evocations" which allegedly invites the being to materialize inside their temple. Satanists wouldn't necessarily like the term "hedonism", but yeah you're pretty much right there.

There are actual demon-worshipping families who worship the figure of Baphomet for example (ironic part is, I'm a Christ follower who happens to know this), but mostly Satanism can be summed up in their official credo "Do What Thou Wilt Shall Be the Whole of the Law." This means that most of them don't even believe in Satan. They just chose the name Satanism to piss off Christians, Jews and others who believe in the existence of the Devil.
