  • why are so hateful maybe he was treated by a non indian doctor like my wife. Those who accuse others of being racist are themselves the racist they just use it to put others on the defensive. shame on you.

  • who d fuck is CHANAKY A999 shorty was not a racist u ignorant ass he was a man of God an d one person who was trying to make Trinidad Indian music a part of Carnival by marrying it with Calypso...Before u put a comment for the world to c, think, before u make yourself look like an ass...

  • When this filthy racist bastard lay dying of cancer, I bet he was treated by doctors who were .... Indian. And all the Indian men living in West Indies should start wearing bangles.

  • I feel let down by this song. Always loved Shorty. In any event, calypsonians always made fun of Indian people and their women..and the African population did nothing to stop it..

  • heehhehe...me like dis song

  • "She so persistent like a real spoil brat,

maybe is love she want but I feel she too old for that!

    But de emphasis, on de words Lay Low to me;

    seems to consist, some suggestivity!

    She religious and always clean,

is obvious she wouldn't be obscene!..."

  • Shorty was arrested and charged for singing this calypso ('Indrani') and 'Art of Making Love' at the finals of the Calypso King contest in 1973 on the orders of Dr. Eric Williams. It was only recently that this song was allowed to be played on the Radio and TV stations in T&T because this song and 'Art of Making Love' were banned. I am yet to hear the 'Art of Making Love' on the Radio and TV stations here in T&T. I challenge any and all DJs to play the 'Art of Making Love'!!

  • This year was 1973 and it was very historic where calypso is concerned. 1973 was the year when the Mighty Sparrow was not a factor in the industry, ever in his own Tent (OYB). 1973 saw the changing of the guards of calypso. It was unthinkable prior to 1973 that Sparrow cannot star in his own Tent or be the final act to closed his own Tent! Sparrow used to closed the first half while Shorty with 'Art Of Making Love' follow by 'Indrani' and Wellington immediately followed with 'Steel And Brass'.

  • I really want to download this stuff, but I can't find it anywhere. any tips?

  • Music by Ed Watson and the Brass Circle.

  • yo bro u made my day !

  • Thanks fuh sharing dis

  • Fiya!...pops had the 7"..

  • somebody remade this song does anyone know who it is?its the same song with the same lyrics but more modern.

  • Don't know if anyone replied to you yet. But the latest remake of this song is from Moses Charles.

  • @jmeqt74 No its not. It happends to have the same title.

  • It's said to be the first soca-style song. Can't see it having much in common with today's soca.

  • @RyanliciousGTI to see the connection you have to listen to all soca music from when he created it until now... and you will how it evolved. this is what original soca was before it began focusing on jumping, waving and whining.

  • @RyanliciousGTI of course you wouldn't hear THIS song have anything in commone with Soca today. But if you listen to his greatest hits, you begin to hear the connection. He the creator of soca... also known as asolka.

  • love it

  • found the original 7"recording with printed paper cover and some stamp from an old san fernando record shop on it as somebody sold it on ebay a couple of years ago who only wanted a few peso for that special ting.

definately 1 of the jewels in my boxes

  • I was living in Trinidad when this calypso was on top.

  • Thank you trinidesi !

  • Wow!!!!!!!!!!!111 Thanks a million for the upload. Brings back so much memories of my daddy singing this for meh mammy!

  • Is Ras Shorty I alive ???

  • No...He passed away in 2000

  • He isn't still alive. He passed in 2000. However he has children who I think are all music. Isaac Blackman is one of the more prominent. They inherited some of his unique sound in their music. Isaac Blackman's song "Father Of Soca" is sort of a tribute about his father Ras Shorty I.

  • Ooo I neva know seh that Isaac Blackman was his son....makes so much sense now.

  • he died

  • Wow thanks for this -brings back memories

  • Thanks again for sharing Ras Shorty's music with the world.

  • Such an innovative musician! father of soca indeed! I would also say father of chutney! he led the way!

  • Thanks.

  • R.I.P Ras Shorty.

    btw nice upload!
