Because Thomas Mars drops the mic and the stand at the end of the song, hence that "thump" you hear at the end.
It's pretty badass, but we don't see it on TV because they focused on the drummer (who was freaking killing it) on the last shot.
He did the same thing on Letterman.

Was Conan just joking around, or does he seriously want them to pay for the mic? I assume that it's Phoenix's mic anyway and not The Tonight Show's.
