Nope, you can't do it while Zooming. However, you can zoom before you film and then press the record button.

Solution to the zooming problem. Zoom in first then record, thats the best you can do in the end. :)

Yeah Sony and Canon should really jump on that. The Panasonic Lumix ZS3 totally blows away other comparable cameras since it has 720p video with a 12x focusing zoom and recording in AVCHD format.
