We should first define emotional eating. It seems your definition is eating to be get the pleasure the the food gives, then feeling bad for becoming happy from eating because of soeciety even through it did make you happy. I disagree, the emotional eating many of us really mean is eating to get pleasure when it is not giving it to you, and then feeling bad because of the effects of how far you ate to get pleasure, such as being bloated, constipated, diariaa, and unhealthy weight gain.
Every dietician would agree that we should enjoy our food. Food has to be satisfying However, the real problem is weather we can reprogram our taste buds to enjoy foods that are healthy. Have you read Eat for Health? or Eat to Live by Joel Fuhrman?
I think you're absolutely right. Emotional eating is automatically paired with negativity and your outlook on it is refreshing. thank you! love your hair btw :)
why should we eat for reasons other than hunger? should we really LOVE food?
i think that emotional eating is just another form of self-medicating and just helps me get farther and farther out of touch with my body and my emotions...
I think we can love food, why shouldn't we? If it was just there for keeping us alive there should just be one big ball of all nutritions we need and that's it. Why the variety and beauty? I think the problem here is that we shouldn't love food too much.
I can remember being in 4th grade and my mom took me to a nutritionist. I was a heavy child. I can remember food always being the main focus and my mom was so strict...As I got older and could eat what I wanted without her around....it was almost like I finally had the control and I could eat all of these things I've never been able to eat before...I believe that is how I became so over weight...
One of the 1st things I find myself doing when I'm upset is to eat, to push that feeling down & feel better. But I don't think this is a good reaction for me & am trying to replace it w/ things like jogging. I would say eat for pleasure but not for pain/to feel better.
truly an awesome video. This one made alot of sence to me. I remember growing up and when ever my mom would get mad, the first things that would come out of her mouth was something in regards to my weight... and it was only then that i felt guilty about my weight... the constant reminder of my moms voice telling me so. It was as if she it was the only thing she could use against me. The funny thing though is that she was big growing up too... you would think she wouldnt do the same to her own..
I love to eat too, as long as it is low in calories and high in nutrition and supports a healthy lifestyle.
Food is life.
Bad food is very addicting, leading to binge eating.
Eating healthy foods stop the desire to eat addicting unhealthy foods and changes a mind set about self worth. Admitting to food addiction is the first step to a healthy life.
Reliving the past is not growth and very unhealthy.
Create new and healthy food values.
I can't imagine being treated badly as a child about food.
I was never heavy as a child. I didn't become overweight until after around 25yrs of age. It must have been hard to hear that for the first time and sad because as a child you don't know any better. As you said, you are just living. I am so glad none of my children suffer from obesity. It would hurt my heart if they had to go through any mean-ness because of it.
I think it's necessary to enjoy your food but "emotional eating" is suggestive of eating when you feel depressed and aren't hungry. I don't think they're the same thing. It's important to enjoy food when you are hungry and stop when you're full.
Why are you so boring?

When did food become the enemy? We have sight/touch/taste/smell to enjoy food. Food is our friend

it was the lack of self value related to eating that was given to me at a young age by very negative comments said to me as I ate.
