This has long been my favorite song of you both. I wanted my boyfriend to hear it and just found this recording. It is incredible. I wish someone would re-post the version with Bixby. Nanci's voice just isn't there in this one.  I don't know if it's age, since Emmylou Harris can do sing this number today just as well as if it had been written for her 35 years ago. And no offense to Rucker, but he's too soulful here, and it sounds out of place.

I think this is one of the most beautiful love songs ever written. It means as much today as it did when it was first written. I think they should sing it on the White house lawn and number 10 downing street.. As an American living in Britain I've made my opinion known on the BP issue.

Anyone who wrote these lyrics is a soul mate of mine. Emmy Lou Harris said the first time she heard it, she was driving a car and had to pull over and cry---it reminded her of her parent's lives. Any barefoot kid who ever grew up in an "old house here by the road" with hard working parents "gets" this song. Thanks, Nanci for collaborating in the writing of this song and singing it so beautifully. Reminds me of our little white house that Dad built on U.S. 54 in the Depression.

I heard the version of 10 years ago, Nanci with Danny Bixby. Nanci's voice was more clear and strong, but with less feeling than now. So I think. This version is beautiful

Just watched Dave and Emmylou, who stated that Nanci wrote the song. She said the first time she heard it, she had to pull over to the side of the road to listen and that it reminded her of her parents.
