This video is at the top of the list on a search on this subject, thats a comforting thought, if it was burried away in the back pages then I would be a little worried.
Sorry for the multi comment rant, its normally not my style..
I hope this goes part of the way in explaining a way of getting noticed, don't rely on youtube alone, too many fish these days.
Now I set you a challenge, send a youtube e-mail to a bunch of the top youtubers, ask them their tips on building channels and being noticed, and I bet you will have almost none reply. I did this around 18 months back, none replied, in the end I found my own way, and from this experience I do all I can to help others find their way.
I will decline to accept your challenge. I have seen videos produced by the likes of Blunty3000 and AngryAussie talking about these sort of issues and do not think it helpful to expect a reply from these users. They possbily get hundreds, possibly thousands of emails a day/week.
But this is something I know, if you have a good idea, and work on building a audience no matter what niche you will be a youtube success, even without the aid of being featured, you need content and time, and a understanding that your biggest audience may lie outside youtube via internet forums and chat rooms.
There is a common format running through all the top youtubers, you don't notice it at first, but all have done the hard yards to be where they are.
As you have suggested, I am beginning to appreciate that relying on YouTube alone to get more views is probably unlikely to produce many results. It looks like I may need to join the social networking sites.
No longer are thumbnails for uploads set at 25-50-75 area of a video, now its 3 random points of a video, I dare say thumbnail abuse by the few spoiled it for the rest, the thumbnail is the most impotrant aspect of being noticed, thats a fact. Only partners now have full control of thumbnails.
We all know communitychannel, she has done an amazing job, cleavage and clever videos, and of note she now pumps out 3 videos a week, instead of three a month...all due to advertising.
In defence of communitychannel. Natalie has been a partner for over a year. In that time, her output has varied from her current burst of creativity of three videos a week to three a month. I am strongly inclined to think that this is more an issue of her having time do make videos during her end of year break, (she is a full time student, part time worker) rather than attempting to exploit advertising.
Hi Pete, I found this as I was doing a litle investigation on this subjest, and you thoughts are well spoken. There are growing numbers of youtubers who are being left out, partly due to the fact the number of uploads is growing, its becoming a very big sea with lots of tiny fish.
Why are there promoted videos up which are 4 months old..??
There is now even less choice for the average youtuber, I'll post a second commet to cover this.
My main point in this video is that I would much rather original content providers, rather than television shows or commercial partners, be promoted on YouTube. I do not have a particular problem with original content that is older being promoted.
Thumbnail abuse definitely spoiled it for the rest of us but I do not mind I would rather not be manipulated by the abusers.
Hey, I have to agree, just finding all this out for myself.. makes it hard to get noticed & frustrating when the promoted stuff is always crap by my some young lady in her bedroom raving about nothing but making sure there is just enought cleavage in the video thumbnail to get clicks, all the while there is great art & music being posted & can't be found cause it doesn't even show up in searches... we have no idea how much content is not being seen at all!
It is immensely difficult to get noticed on YouTube. There is an overwhelmingly huge amount of new content added every day. Unfortunately, as you have noticed, a little bit of cleavage helps.
Nor is helped when YouTube promote television shows and corporate entities as opposed to original content providers. Check out my video I Am: (An) Other side of YouTube and follow the links for a video about this.
For you and anyone else who likes original content, check out the new video by The Moore Brothers on YouTube called "Elvis Left the Building". You just type Moore Brothers Elvis Left the Building in the search bar and then enjoy.
I'd like to see more original stuff too. Although one problem is that many of the Aussie stuff contains copyright, and you know youtube and copyright.
Not to mention promoted videos are always from partners (which I have nothing against, google needs to make money). It just makes it harder like you say to find such videos.
It was only a while later that it occurred to me that the promoted videos are those of partners. Regardless, I would still prefer that original content providers be promoted over television shows and/or stations.
Glad to see you agree. If I want to watch television shows I can easily search for them online, (I cannot watch them on T.V. because I do not have one.) More original content please. (Yours is way cool by the way)
Thanks for your comment. I had no idea you even watched my videos.
Since most of the "shows" I watched on youtube (have found out since), were produced by viacom, they have slowly dwindled away.
I mostly watch Original Content anyway. As for why mostly sponsored channels getting the most promotion? Sorta makes sense, its how they get there money i guess. Like it? No, but I accept it, for what I get in return. Which is a great community for the most part.

You can find original content on my channel. It will be up to you to decide if it's good or not.
