I remember when I first played this game. I left my house, went to meet the folks in Harmonica Town, then ran back. Before I knew it I had ran all the way to Horn Ranch. I started freaking out because I couldn't find my way back to my house. When I finally found it I realized that I had ran right past it when I was running to Horn Ranch.
I think one problem of the game is the time.. It's too fast!! @.@ I know a lot of people complain that it's too slow but I still always find myself being late for stuff. I'm weird like that XD
@Maybebluechels Yeah it's true. But i make it a habit of talking to everyone everyday. So sometimes I reach Harmonica Town at 17:10 and I'm like... "D'OH I MISSED!" lol XD
@Shirarezaru I'm not sure when but the workers at Gamestop told me they only sell used copies but even that gets sold out. I went to pretty much all the Gamestops where I live and nothing Dx I ended up buying a new copy at this game store for like $20 more than what Gamestop was selling it for. >:0
I wish Natsume came out with a Rune factory where you could choose the option to be a boy OR girl. I loved animal parade and since there were 3 save files I married Chase, Luke, and Wizard (Gale) :3. wiiviewr I love your videos and I hope you keep on continuing your reviews cause they make me laugh to death :)

well, ive played almost EVERY Harvest Moon game!! My faveorite at the moment is Hero of Lef valley due to its story line and characters.. my 1st ever game was DS and im currently playing Animal Parade (started 2 days ago) which i LOVE! i can sorta get over the crappy camera angles since its such an awesome game but it IS frustrating!
This guy is such a sperglord. Lol the parts you complain about are things that add a bit of depth to the game and make it more difficult and even if it's "Annoying" it takes time and delays the amount of time it takes before the game gets boring.
You do realize that the reason Rune factory is a cheap knockoff of Harvest Moon is because it was made BY the same company. Although, Frontier did not seem as good as Rune factory 3.
My first games of Harvest Moon were A Wonderful Life and Another Wonderful Life. Both basically had the same story though I played Another Wonderful Life more since we bought it and didn't get it from gamefly. My friends have told me that they loved this version, and my father lost my game so I made him buy me another one. This was last year and didn't get the game out of him until saturday! I can't wait to play this game I miss it!
o, and one more thing, how come you can only hold 3 species of animals, if u upgrade your barn u can hold like 6 animals, so it makes it totally pointless to just allow u to have 3 kinds of animals. thts the main thing tht bothers me. again, i just dont understand
i agree on the tools, to much work to find the certain metals for the level of tools. not only do you have to find the metals, but its even harder to refine them to the correct metal. plus, u have to go in order, so u cant just skip to gold from something like iron. i also dont like how you have to buy other plots, i mean the other ones are litterly on your land, you need to pay like 70000 just for something thats on your land anyway. i just dont get it

i havent enjoyed a harvest moon as much as i enjoyed Back to Nature on PS1, most if not all of the other harvest moon games just cant get the towns people right, they only have a few lines, very rarely interact with eachother and lack a decent daily routine, they just dont seem alive to me. The actual farming gets better every game, but i want to feel like part of a community as i did in back to nature rather than a farmer in a town full of robots....
@Lego i have to wonder if you've tried them. and also if BtN was your first one. because it was so long ago, standards weren't very high. can't say the daily routines of BtN are better than any of the recent ones, but its true they should step the NPCs up. they have one NPC crushing on another, but nothing ever happens. perhaps their relationship progresses and they can get together if you take too long or something. or maybe NPCs should seek YOU out sometimes. oh, the ideas...
@Legopancake The people in Animal Parade and Tree of Tranquility seem to have fairly good personal lives if you bring up their heart levels - in fact, they'll even partake in their own cut scenes just involving eachother - also - the lines devlop quite well and change with season, weather, if your married or have had a child or if they are married or have a child and various other factors. Though not quite as good as btn they did quite well..But that's just my opinion....

Tree of traquility is very fun, but I thought the game lacked a bit because I didn't imedeatly play through the story and didn't unlock the new people or ares very quickly, leaving me bored by my first winter in the game. it's probobly my fualt, but i wanted to build up my farm and get some animals before jumping into the main story. When I did unlock everything i had fun. Now that Animal Parade is on the cheap ill proboby pick it up. I love harvest moon and hope this game delivers.

i have harvest moon ds and its got bad reviews and scores 4 some reason but i LOVE IT!!!! It's basically all the same except for the story to save the harvest goddes which on ds you have to work on your farm and once in a while a sprite will pop up and u will get him to help you work on your farm if you want. The only thing tht sucks is u have to save the harvest goddes before you get married :(.. Good reviw
I LOVE Rune Factory but I like Animal Parade better! No matter what I always marry Luke ;D. I really like the few new characters like the Wizard dude he's awesome!
@Viviankazune , according to GameFAQs, Animal Parade was released in England sometime in December of 2010. It's a pretty big step up in overall improvement, compared to Tree of Tranquility.
Hmm feels like the graphics are lacking in some places in Animal parade, compared to TOT, for example: The mines. But other then that, the game looks good, as the graphics dont bother me TOO much. XD
What about the mechanics - how do they compare to ToT? Does farming, mining, etc; feel as compelling? Does it mesh better? I haven't played ToT, but I've been wanting to get this or that one.

great review but I NEED some help with this game. I am now at the red bell in the game and I have all of the ors but now the blacksmith tells me I need to find chloe but I can't find her, and I hear from other people that if you do find her she won't come with you to the blacksmith. has anyone else had this problem and if you have can you please tell me what you did to pass the red bell part. thanks
I think that when you level up your skill by using a tool a lot, you'll have decreased stamina loss from using that certain tool. The power up only becomes available when you have an upgraded tool.
is there an ending to this game? when it ends does it end for good or can you continue playing on the same save file? cif you dont go along with the story, can you do whatever you want for as long as you want until you start with the story again?
the first harvest moon game i've played was another wonderful life. kick ass game :D i have animal parade and its pretty overall, just some things are hard but then it gets easy!!!
The first Harvest Moon game I played was Friends of Mineral Town for the Gameboy Advanced. I have to say, it was by far the best one of all time, everything about it was perfect, in my opinion! Second best would be Magical Melody (I played it for Wii, the controls on the Game Cube looked a lot easier, it took time to get used to the Wii versions way of equipping items!)

Lol at the arguments over RF and HM. Personally, I thought this was the best HM game ever (besides the N64 version, that was the original and best). I felt like I was never bored and had plenty to do. The storyline was more immersive and the relationship side-quests had more depth and events. I've also played RFF, and i was bored out of my frickin' mind. Literally. The storyline wasn't entertaining for me, and this is coming from someone who LOVES RPGs. Anyways, HM AP is a FANTASTIC upgrade~ :']
you can actually plant seeds 3x3 instead of one by one. the game doesn't actually tell you how to do it (which was irritating for the first 3 season's of the game -_-) but i figured it out when i was trying to stop my cat from spilling my drink. anyways..you have to shake your remote to get a 3x3.
@HikariBun Prettier for sure...I do have to say, the whole Runey thing in the Wii version kind of ruined some stuff for me thoguh, they were a pain D:

About the iron, copper, and whatnot watering cans/scythes and such...don't look at it so negatively =/. It doesn't need to make sense, it's just part of the gameplay.
The only problems I have with this game are the camera, all the walking, and the fact that each day is really long. Its a little TOO long for me. I also don't really like how everything is like an anime style. In the older games, everything was more real and less anime which I prefer. You wont believe this but in Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life, NOBODY had oddly colored hair!!! :O
@TheRedfire555 It was never not anime...I honestly don't understand whenever people say they say a certain style is less "anime" than some other style. What is "anime" style? In fact, I think the older games look a lot more "anime", the chibi-ish looking people have pokemon-esque eyes and overall is more cartoonish (Doraemon?). Ah, I'm not bashing you or anything, if you don't like the style I don't care, but the whole anime label is confusing. Is having colorful hair all it takes? :S
@HikariBun Well I guess your right, the colorful hair is what made me say "anime". :D I guess what i'm really trying to say is that I like the way the game looked back in Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life. (its the only other Harvest Moon I ever owned). Instead of anime I could call it "cartoonish". Of course, they all are cartoonish but something about this game makes A Wonderful Life's graphics and they way it looks a lot better.
Thats just my opinion. This game's look is fine though.

Actually this is my first actual Harvest Moon game (although I have all of the Rune Factory games). :> Since I have no nostalgic ties to the previous games, I guess I don't really have any feelings or preference for the simpler style of the older games. :P
I love all the Harvest Moon games except this one and TT because the animals were too stupid to feed themselves when they were outside :[

I've played both but I prefer AP way more than TOT. I agree with the mining ore then upgrade then use the boosts . -_-
In the Rune factory you can level up without the ores though. c:

Lol Rune Factory is a knockoff Harvest Moon? It's like a side-series. Made by the same company. I consider it part of Harvest Moon

i have harvest moon ds and its got bad reviews and scores 4 some reason but i LOVE IT!!!! It's basically all the same except for the story to save the harvest goddes which on ds you have to work on your farm and once in a while a sprite will pop up and u will get him to help you work on your farm if you want. The only thing tht sucks is u have to save the harvest goddes before you get married :(.. Good reviw

I LOVE Rune Factory but I like Animal Parade better! No matter what I always marry Luke ;D. I really like the few new characters like the Wizard dude he's awesome!

@Viviankazune , according to GameFAQs, Animal Parade was released in England sometime in December of 2010. It's a pretty big step up in overall improvement, compared to Tree of Tranquility.

Hmm feels like the graphics are lacking in some places in Animal parade, compared to TOT, for example: The mines. But other then that, the game looks good, as the graphics dont bother me TOO much. XD

What about the mechanics - how do they compare to ToT? Does farming, mining, etc; feel as compelling? Does it mesh better? I haven't played ToT, but I've been wanting to get this or that one.

rune factory 1 2 and 3 are all made by Natsume which is the same company who created harvest moon. so technically it isnt a knockoff

Rune factory 1,2, and 3 were not made by Natsume. Marvelous made the Rune Factory series and Harvest Moon series while Natsume localized it.

Get a ds and play Rune Factory 3. Frontier isint the best in the series. I'm surprised you thought it was the only RF game.

great review but I NEED some help with this game. I am now at the red bell in the game and I have all of the ors but now the blacksmith tells me I need to find chloe but I can't find her, and I hear from other people that if you do find her she won't come with you to the blacksmith. has anyone else had this problem and if you have can you please tell me what you did to pass the red bell part. thanks

I think that when you level up your skill by using a tool a lot, you'll have decreased stamina loss from using that certain tool. The power up only becomes available when you have an upgraded tool.

is there an ending to this game? when it ends does it end for good or can you continue playing on the same save file? cif you dont go along with the story, can you do whatever you want for as long as you want until you start with the story again?

the first harvest moon game i've played was another wonderful life. kick ass game :D i have animal parade and its pretty overall, just some things are hard but then it gets easy!!!

The first Harvest Moon game I played was Friends of Mineral Town for the Gameboy Advanced. I have to say, it was by far the best one of all time, everything about it was perfect, in my opinion! Second best would be Magical Melody (I played it for Wii, the controls on the Game Cube looked a lot easier, it took time to get used to the Wii versions way of equipping items!)
From reading the comments, I'm beginning to think we all have a bit of a bias for the first Harvest Moon game we played! xD

What you do is press the down button on the control pad (+)
and then select the watering can. hope that helped!

Lol at the arguments over RF and HM. Personally, I thought this was the best HM game ever (besides the N64 version, that was the original and best). I felt like I was never bored and had plenty to do. The storyline was more immersive and the relationship side-quests had more depth and events. I've also played RFF, and i was bored out of my frickin' mind. Literally. The storyline wasn't entertaining for me, and this is coming from someone who LOVES RPGs. Anyways, HM AP is a FANTASTIC upgrade~ :']

you can actually plant seeds 3x3 instead of one by one. the game doesn't actually tell you how to do it (which was irritating for the first 3 season's of the game -_-) but i figured it out when i was trying to stop my cat from spilling my drink. anyways..you have to shake your remote to get a 3x3.

About the iron, copper, and whatnot watering cans/scythes and such...don't look at it so negatively =/. It doesn't need to make sense, it's just part of the gameplay.

The only problems I have with this game are the camera, all the walking, and the fact that each day is really long. Its a little TOO long for me. I also don't really like how everything is like an anime style. In the older games, everything was more real and less anime which I prefer. You wont believe this but in Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life, NOBODY had oddly colored hair!!! :O
But I like this game a lot :D

@TheRedfire555 It was never not anime...I honestly don't understand whenever people say they say a certain style is less "anime" than some other style. What is "anime" style? In fact, I think the older games look a lot more "anime", the chibi-ish looking people have pokemon-esque eyes and overall is more cartoonish (Doraemon?). Ah, I'm not bashing you or anything, if you don't like the style I don't care, but the whole anime label is confusing. Is having colorful hair all it takes? :S

@HikariBun Well I guess your right, the colorful hair is what made me say "anime". :D I guess what i'm really trying to say is that I like the way the game looked back in Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life. (its the only other Harvest Moon I ever owned). Instead of anime I could call it "cartoonish". Of course, they all are cartoonish but something about this game makes A Wonderful Life's graphics and they way it looks a lot better.
Thats just my opinion. This game's look is fine though.

Actually this is my first actual Harvest Moon game (although I have all of the Rune Factory games). :> Since I have no nostalgic ties to the previous games, I guess I don't really have any feelings or preference for the simpler style of the older games. :P
