  • I like it a lot!

  • surprise surprise surpriiiiiiiiiiise.so so so-just so wonderful

  • I would give anything to go back to 1989/1990 when music was so much better and times where less stressful and chaotic. Then again, at least we have the internet and technology today, which allows us to reminisce and reflect on the past with nostalgic affinity. I guess that is the next best thing to actually entering a time machine.

  • 3 ways to fall asleep... sex till i pass out, Grey goose on the rock,or her lullaby voice!

  • After all these years I still love this song. Takes me back to the summer of '91 and my first real relationship with a girl. Driving around in her crappy Jetta with the top down listening to this song while she told me about our future...

  • I am still in love with her over 20 years later.

  • great song, way ahead of its time for 1990, I wish today's music would be this good

  • first seen on vh1c keep coming back 20 gagas for 1 harriet wheeler

  • I always liked this song, but never seen what they looked like. Now that I have seen, I was not surprised. Her voice matches her looks. .... Adorable.

  • awesome song.. wish people made music like this now..

  • 9 people never had a story to begin with......

  • One of myfavorites bands of all the time

  • I remember listening to the Sundays back in my school days. I had such a crush on Harriet. I even named my guitar after her.

  • Harriet Wheeler's voice makes we want to do drugs and pass out peacefully.

  • this song is haunting but in a beautiful way...lol

  • i miss whfs DC long live high school days

  • @prodjectmayhem I'm with ya on that one prodject, whfs was the best!

  • @prodjectmayhem

wrnr out of annapolis isn't too bad but i hear you. back in the day, hfs festivals -good times indeed.

  • I was 3 years old when the song came out it's beautiful, melodic pop sound of all time!!!

  • watch= HITLER HATES OHIO STATE.

  • Her voice is so beautiful! She reminds me of the gal in the Cranberry's:)

  • I love this song. It has the ability to make me happy and melancholy at the same time. One of my all time fave's.

  • @Peter95111 Harriet's the "female Morrissey."

  • god. it's been 21 years?

  • this song was a great way to seal a great decade. loved the 80's. bet she didn't know she was introducing a whole new music genre for the 90's. cranberries, garbage, & so many others followed. thanks sundays, for the great lead in.

  • Sometimes stories end just as it started including this song....

  • Sometimes stories end just as it started....

  • Epic........

  • Tell me it's true;are The Sundays doing gigs in Europe and planning a new CD?

  • This girl was really something special. Incredibly magnetic.

She's lovely with a voice that came straight from heaven.

  • Love video.

autopartswarehouse ads, not so much, fyi, they have no guarantee on their parts.

  • I still say Harriet has one of the most natural flowing voices! Just AMAZING!

  • "It's the memories of the shed that make me turn red. Surprise, surprise, surprise......" Harriet Wheeler, the voice of an angle. Wonderful song from a wonderful era. I wish I could go back.

  • @tomlloyd47: The lyrics leave you wanting to know what happened to get to this point.

  • another song that makes me feel nostalgic...miss the goodtimes

  • Oh Harriett

  • This song defines melancholy.

  • Harriet Wheeler sings like an angel. So many memories.

  • Kids, now THIS IS MUSIC!!! How coold huh!!

  • The hedonism, selfishenss and anti-intellectual decade known as the 1980s came to an end. Baby boomers had to pack it up and turn the world over to a more pragmatic, communal and no-nonsense generation.

And as the '90s began, songs like this bade goodbye to a culture of silliness and ushered in a thoughtful time, open to true progress and peace.

  • @arkady714

But aren't we right back at that? The 80s has some good shit, and I love the 90s. But it seems like we're right back at the vapidness and bullshit that was the 80s. Sometimes I wonder why so many people hold the 80s in high regard culturally. I guess nostalgia makes people love some stupid shit.

  • @CyberSpectrumND We are not at all back at that. The early 80's saw babyboomers grasping onto their youth with things like "Longevity" magazine, "recreational" drugs and voting for an anti-intellect who promised both the moon and lower taxes. The current generation has a much deeper sense of social responsibility and accountability. Unlike the generation that started the 80s, for the current one, it is not all about them. The politics of the day reflect that, in my own opinion.

  • What a pathetic job by Vevo or whatever "official" camp put this song up Crap-ass audio quality -- phasing in and out particularly on the right channel. It's sad that I found a much higher-quality audio version of this song by a private poster.

  • @DroverChicago I Fing hate VEVO they cut the songs short too!!

  • @DroverChicago It's preferable to find a better quality version by a private poster. It means you don't have to sit through these stupid ads on every Vevo video.

  • One of the best bands of that era or since, a pity they're no longer active. All 3 of their albums were brilliant. Perhaps they decided there were better things to do.

  • So lovely. Memories.

  • I remember hearing this song years ago when I saw here singing in this video I was like 'wow she sounds so lovely' being a lot younger I was also thinking I wonder if she's single? Then I remembered my reality and thought 'oh hell she'd never go for a guy like me who am I kidding I'm in position to date a fine woman like her!' too bad my financial situation has yet to improve for I still feel the same!

  • I will.

  • the guy on the left looks very interested in this video.

  • My guinea pig is named after her, love it~<33333333333333333333333

  • What a wonderful group. Such a simple, clear, beautiful sound. Even when they rock hard on some of their other songs, they have a sensitivity which is just so nice. Ms Wheeler's voice is superb. Group has been inactive for the past 10 years or so, as they went off to "raise their children". The kids should be old enough by now to stay at home while the group makes some new music and tours.......hint hint.

  • Please kill the people that introed this video!!!

  • I don't mind VEVO because you usually great video quality, but what's up with the sound quality on this one?

  • I like this band a lot, it's a shame that most of their popular songs are 2-3 chord songs :(

  • repetitious, mediocre, not terribly original...but at least she is easy on the eyes...

  • I love you Harriet Wheeler.

  • always loved this song

  • FUCK vevo

  • Cool! They remind me a bit of The Cranberries.

  • I like that she keeps her British accent when she sings instead of trying to Americanize it which has been the trend since the 1960's.

  • OOps, VEVO ad. Must not watch. Finding other upload. Bye.

  • Heavenly. Nothing compares to this sound.

  • This used to be on the musak list at work.

  • This song is full of beautiful melody, which is the depth, & soul of music.

  • Mackey, your are soooooooo right. Couldn't of put it better myself. It takes guts, & character to speak out against something that's popular.

  • Makes me think of the good ol college days of the early 90's. Trying to find myself in this crazy world. Hooking up w/ my frat bros and drinking windex and going streaking. . . I'm 45 now and watch Nancy Grace, FML

  • @bigdsears I turned 45 in August, I can't find my way in this crazy World, but in 1990 I started a 16 year job then ended in 2007. Only the past looks bright to me

  • @MetallicBill I was much older then, i'm much younger than that now

  • As the '80s slipped into the '90s and wry sarcasm & blissful ignorance gave way to a more cynical yet pragmatic time, we were given certain songs that helped define the time and accompany us into the new era. This sweet ballad was one of the first.

Culturally speaking, this was one of the first videos of the '90s and one of the first voices of Generation X...a generation, btw, who truly cared.

  • I cant beleive I for got about the sundays... This song made me nostalgic in love! Weird huh!? ;) lol

  • Beautiful song, very watchable video, enthralling vocal performance from Harriet Wheeler, glistening guitars, tell me, what more can you ask for? Pure genius..

  • @Anthony420542 She's so beautiful as well! A spectacular vision.

  • @Sixxer7 I KNOW...The Sundays were so amazing the way they had with guitarlines and the way they managed not to come off prissy or pompous in anyway. Harriet was always somewhat mysterious and enigmatic to me as a kid because her words are sometimes very dark but her vocals are very loving and sweet........

  • Lady Gaga sux.....she is a total rip off of Madonna and Dale Bozio........this young lady is an incredible singer......

  • I don't know about anybody else but at 2:12 I think that's the cutest thing she did. She is so adorable. And that's coming from a straight man.

  • @NostalgicTimeMan Sorry man, I'm not seeing it. 2:12 seems close and out of focus. After that she wipes the sweat from her forehead. Please help me with what you see. Thx.

  • @sclingeman that's exactly what i see. idk i just think its cute (i usually dont say that) but then i guess that anything she does is cute lol man i love Harriett Wheeler

  • The Smiths influenced so many bands. This is just another example.

  • This song is great. It has jangly melodic guitar and is sung by a woman that has a great voice. Her voice is unique and she is not trying to emulate the divas like so many of the American Idol contestants try to ya know the Mariah Careys and the Whitney Houstons. This song was never reallly a big hit but it is so much better than any of the crap that wins Grammy Awards

  • I agree but that Rap-Crap is so entrenched now it's sickening! There would be screams of racism if the record companies stopped playing it. Unless the Record companies grew a set. We can only hope.

  • @HarryCalahan1 As much as I agree the rapp sucks.I think hip hop was the worst thing to ever happen to music. The record companies are making money from it and that is all they care about. The recording industry is not about art it is a business.

  • @lob287 i totally agree with u.I think we should start putting guitars in kids hands at young age and play rock and metal in their ears at leval 10.

  • @lob287 or this kind of music, just not rapp.

  • @0458FEO What ?

  • @HarryCalahan1 People into rap and hip hop still want respect for their tastes, not all of it is bad, but musically it's very unchallenging really

  • The Sundays never got the credit they deserved. They were innovators on 2 levels and that is something few bands ever achieve .First they created a genre of music that would dominate the mid 90`s. The second is Harriet Wheelers Angelic voice unique style of singing. The massively successful bands The Cranberries and Six pence none the richer both had female singers who copied Harriets vocal delivery and played this same acoustic pop style of music. Harriet is a earth angel in looks and in voice

  • @DoubleVisionandco Agree wholeheartedly with your comment. The Sundays were definitely overlooked even as bands heavily indebted to them had some success. The Sundays' music is just terrific--unfortunately we don't have enough of it.

  • @DoubleVisionandco Six Pense I never liked, this is actually very much above par. Don't forget Belly

  • This song takes me back to a simpler, honest, beautiful time. I love Harriet Wheeler.

  • her voice has me mesmerized in a dreamlike state.god she's beautiful.

  • now alot older i am not afraid to admit i loved this band! when i was in grade school def worried to be labeled fag when i heard this. this really brings back memories when i had no cares in the world. sniff. back to the real world-working for a living scraping by

  • @muttr That's true.I do think some people would call someone a fag for listening to this but these are the same people that will watch someone like Justin aTimberlake dance around on stage. It's amazing what is considered cool to listen to and what is not.

  • heard this song on xrt in chicago would never of discovered it when it came out 20 years ago.headbanger back then.

  • this song makes me so happy

  • I never heard of this group. Great sound, great voice, and I absolutely love her hair.

  • @TheCoddlefish they used to play this on radio all time. unlike todays music the 90s had it right

  • she's not human, she's an angel!

  • Do a search Sarah Jaffe and Sharon Van Etten.

  • I simply adore this song. Many years back, this was the backdrop song to a lot of writing. Thanks for sharing this one.

  • This is one of those songs that you don't hear to often. I always enjoyed it, but could never remember much about it. I heard it at a department store a few weeks ago, but then forgot any lyrics that might help me figure out the name of it... Then a week later I heard it, again, playing at a mall. That time I remembered some lines, and looked it up as soon as I could. Great song.

  • I don't know why i love this song sooooo much!! I just love it love it love it!!

  • Harriet, i wanna bear your children...holla at yer boy!!!!

  • 4 ppl have hate every day of the week and twice on Sundays.

  • She is pretty fugly...just kidding..

  • If your city has a AAA (Adult Album Alternative) radio station, support it any way you can! They play music like this (and great new music, that the mainstream shuns), but most people are still sadly unaware of these stations! And if you're not familiar with "AAA" music, go to Wikipedia and look up "Adult Alternative" or "Americana music", and read about it... Should give you an idea.

  • Amazing beautiful song !! takes me away

    a taste of the Cranberries...

  • Amazing song !! takes me away

  • early alternative, if you listened to this back then you more than likely had at least 1 Cure song you liked

  • finally now i see who sings this song. after all these years. gosh, i love this voice and tune. shes love !

  • reminds me of The Cranberries for some reason

  • @zoeydoggy1

Without The Sundays, there wouldn't have been a market for the Cranberries. They paved the way.

  • Close your eyes, and just listen to her angelic voice. So beautiful, I love her singing, especially when she sings wild horses.

  • @Zammis007 yes her epicness shows the best in wild horses there version is the best :)

  • @Zammis007 ok but make sure you watch it from 3:40 and on...worth it!

  • Its so beautiful, Haunting and unique. I will allways love this song.

  • this song makes me cry in happiness

  • This song is just great! nuff said.

  • Damn catchy song!

  • Super Smithsy but on par with Marr

  • The "dislikes" obviously do NOT like Sundays.

  • @wyleehokie... I LOVE the Sundays, but I dislike it because of the poor audio quality. I would expect better from Vevo. Listening right now in my Bose headphones and it's just horrible...fading in and out....as if it was recorded at a very low 96 bit rate. My cassette tape from 1990 sounds better than this ;)

  • @Burke68

Actually you have a valid point there. I stand corrected.

  • Her voice gives me goose bumps. Harriet was truly amazing.

  • This song always make me feel good and young again. i love it and she's beautiful.

  • I thnk there are a ton of great Britishbands right now. America has become immune to it tho, in my opinion. They want there over produced, artifical crap. So have it they will. But there are bands like; Mumford and sons, friendly fires, silent film, etc...

  • @calimica1979 I couldn't agree more.

  • That Facebook ad just gave me fucking AIDS it was so gay.

  • @MIvarsson99 I hope you get beat up

  • @Jheherrin386 Well, that probably won't happen.

    Sorry faggot.

  • One of my all time favorite songs, they don't come around all that often.

  • I dont know about you guys, but the instrumental part of this song sounds eerily like 'cemetry gates' by the smiths.

  • God.... her voice is Sultry and innocent at the same time.

  • @spudhufer You just proved that you have no earthly idea what the word "sultry" means.

Harriet's voice is clear as a bell.

  • @MIvarsson99 Um yeah bitch.. adjective, -tri·er, -tri·est.

    1.

oppressively hot and close or moist; sweltering: a sultry day. and I did say innocent. So in my opinion if you combine the two that's how I would describe it. You can disagree ...fine. but you come across as an ass.

  • this is close to my senior year in high school, its so simple its so dreamy....

    i miss that!

  • I like them better than the cranberries. Also reminds me of the smiths a lot. :0) love it!

  • this song speaks a million & 1 words to me.. love it!!

  • Her Voice Is Magical! Blessings! Anthony Rebello

  • I'd like to know what that little souvenir is.

  • What a sweet yet piercing and melodious voice. Beautiful.

  • We need another British Invasion to give the USA a musical enema and flush away the cRap we have to endure now. There's good music out there but we don't get to hear it because the corporates want to stay safe with the junk that does sell. No wonder radio and MTV are dead.

  • @Marckyle64 Brave comment!

  • @gooboo1000 It's just how I feel! I know some people will disagree, but so far a few HAVE agreed. After reading your comment I realized that this is a safer forum in which to say things like that. Most of the people who'd hate my comment have no interest in The Sundays or this type of music and wouldn't post here.. I did dig out my copy of Reading, Writing and Arithmetic after I commented - it's just as pleasant as I remember.

  • @Marckyle64 TRUE ONTHAT LUV THE BRITS BANDS , SINCE GERRY & THE PACEMAKERS ..1964 ..

  • @Marckyle64 : I'm with you, and admittedly due to the bombardment of junk music, I haven't cared to keep up to much with recent developments in worthwhile music. Having said that, my impression of current music coming out of the U.K seems to be quite dismal. Sadly, most of the new bands and musical acts I've seen come out of the U.K recently seem to be emulating American artists and trends instead of being innovative as they once were.☹

  • @Marckyle64 cRap haha good one and i do agree :)

  • @Marckyle64 Amen!!!

  • @Marckyle64 It's not about sales. It's about social conditioning. The UK is in an even worse state then America when it comes to music because nearly everyone tows the party line when it comes to pop culture. 80's British music is over, unfortunately. But there's always hope for the future!

  • @Marckyle64 This very song marked the end of 80's British music - it was a sad goodbye.

  • @Marckyle64 Amen!

Her voice is like slow flowing honey.

  • @Marckyle64 The world did end in 2000, just not quite the way we expected to.

  • @NostalgicTimeMan Your wrong.

  • @NostalgicTimeMan There is still great music out there. You just have to look for it.

  • @NostalgicTimeMan Don't give up hope.

  • @NostalgicTimeMan Can you recommend some other awesome songs by The Sundays?

  • @danerook Goodbye and Wild Horses are two good ones. Check em out. :)

  • @danerook Hi there, actually I have purchased all of their CDs as they are not "one hit wonder" CDs with a bunch of filler songs. My favorite is Static and Silence, but all three studio albums are great. I think you can find the single Summertime on You tube. Love Harriet in that cute little skirt of hers!

  • @Marckyle64 well thats like your opinion man

  • @Marckyle64 Amen my friend

  • @Marckyle64 Nah, British music blows just as hard these days.

  • @Marckyle64

you said it, sister...(or brother). lol I'm offended that I went to watch/listen to this and there's little miss Bozo wig advertising her latest piece of crap-- but whatever. what great memories this song holds...and Harriet's divine voice.

  • absolutely seductively, achingly, awesome

  • I'm in love with this band, the girl and her voice. I sriously wanna take her out for a cup of tea...

  • if anyone is interested in hearing me sing this please visit my channel.

  • gorgeous song!

  • Recently, I was in the dentist chair and this song played. It made me a little sad and it also got me thinking. Then I couldn't get it out of my mind. Great song.

  • OMG ! Harriet is a dream with an angels voice !

  • oh where are the song writers n their singers...

  • Bless Harriet...and all the people who bring beauty to the world and people's lives.

  • I discovered this band back when I borrowed modern warfare 2, so whenever I hear their stuff I think of running and gunning down the russians ha

  • FUCK YOU VEVO YOU SUCK! YOU SUUUUUUUUUUCK!

  • Nice rip of Cemetery Gates by the Smiths. Just double time it, no one will notice.

  • I heard this song at the Old Navy I work at and loved it. She's got a beautiful voice. Had no clue this group was from the late 80's. Why had I not heard of them? The 80's were my decade. Aged from years 8 to 17 and watched MTV constantly. Don't remember this group though, unfortunately. This is definitely my kind of music.

  • @GoMagic22

pfft. It's because you were probably listening to crap mainstream in the 80s and not good music.Looks like it took you 20 years to catch up.
