@umidontno040394 its a history joke. the english fought the saxons in this battle for the crown of who would become king of all of england. the joke is that they make it seem like its not a big deal. personally i like history but for example you dont get it, so its not for everybody i guess.. :)
@broncosfan02 Erm...no, the English fought the French. Or more specifically the English Anglo-Saxons fought the Normans...who were French...but with Viking roots.
@broncosfan02 oh trust me i like history. wasnt this the battle when william the conqueror came in to england from france and conquered them? and then will became the king england.
The Writers from Family Guy are dumbasses, the Battle of Hastings was extremely important that made William of Normandy king of England, and having an important foreshadowing to the Hundred Years War
@JakeJonRoberts Yeah...that's the joke. Go look for the whole clip, the ottoman empire is a bunch of guys sitting on chairs with the furniture piece called an ottoman. So chill out champ
@Andreus All of the accents you find in America are actually, for the most part, slightly evolved old English accents that are now extinct in England. The two American accents that are closest to the older English ones are the eastern shore Maryland accent and the Maine accent. Besides, during the battle at Hastings they would have been speaking such an old dialect of English it would have sounded more like a low German to someone today. And also...its family guy...who cares, lol.
@BloodyBanastre Except they were Normans, and they didn't speak old English or German, they spoke Norman which was derived from Norse, French, and Gallo-Roman. This is important because it vastly changed the concept of the language English from its German roots to something far more mixed.
@promontorium Yeah, except that in regards to history, it's not nearly as exciting as something like William Wallace's rebellion against englad, or *random event of the crusades*.
As far as high middle ages events go, there's a lot of other exciting stuff as well.
Also, hastings only lasted like a day or something, right?
@JDrakeify yeah normaly they'd be over in an hour or two but this dragged on for about eight (ish) until harold got hit the eye and the saxon morale broke
@BloodyBanastre The guys we see would have spoke old french actually :) And the others would have spoken the Saxon tongue which became English after it mixed with French and a tiny bit of German and Danish and practically every other Germanic language. And yes it is family guy:)
@BloodyBanastre I must inform you...the soldiers in this scene who are trying to "get" Hastings are Normans led by William I. They would be speaking French, not English.
This video reminds me of Monty Python's "reenactment" sketches.
@Illier1 yes, why don't you know... If you speak English in my opinion you should at least heard of Hastings, Waterloo, Yorktown, Agincourt, the Armada, and the Somme.
Which side was this? the american accents really make it hard to tell.
If they were supossed to be the English, then they should already have Hastings, in fact the whole of Britain really. They were defending it, not taking it
But if these guys are supposed to be the Normans, then Family guy missed a good joke here because they were French and if they had put silly sterotypical French accents it would of made it better.
Of course a better joke could of been to have King Harold get all pumped about the battle only to be completely owned by the normans (you can toss in gore humour here for effect, his death wasn't pleasant as his corpse was hacked to peices)
@Adammarketis These guys are the Normans- you can tell by the shields and armor. But would it have been a good idea to give them French accents, since they became the English later on? I can't decide...
@MrStig691 The Normans were gallicised. Yes, Rollo was a Viking, but Normandy became a French Duchy soon enough. William the Conqueror (Guillaume le Conquérant) spoke French. Until Edward I, the Kings of England and the Noble classes, who were predominantly Norman, spoke French.
That comment would make sense if I was so up my arse that I was aruging for historical accuracy, Which I am not. I realize it's family guy, I am just arguing that it should be more funny. I mean this is a animated comedy is it not?
the orange fondler is a joke we know pretty much everthing about the battle of hastings after all it was faught in england and what would you americans know it wasnt faught in america!
@AstiArts actually we do learn why America broke away. I say we, like America most Brits are thick as shit which is an unfortunate reality. Britain and the US differ in two ways, we don't cling to religion nor do we have any patriots. I couldn't give two shits about the current state of the UK.
Ok time to get my nerd face on 8============) ok ready.
The battles of hastings was merely at hastings. It was to capture the english throne. After Normandy Conquered English in 1066 the royal hiarchy started. No I did not use a search engine. THe bayeux tapestry depics the whole thing.
Americas view on British history never seizes to amaze me. All they remember is that we lost the American war for independence and we apparently got "saved" by America during WW2.
Not true, I know that British soldiers were the best ever. They also fought in many conflicts that showed the importance of naval warfare (Falkland War). They also was/still (in sense) the largest empire the world has ever seen. Come on, are us Yanks and Dix are that bad to you Brits?
@ClayTongues Not Really we get taught way more than that in school also likehow your country was the first world superpower its actually the propaganda english schools use like for example not telling students that america broke away from britain they just say it has always been there sadly the british still try to implay they are perfect but sadly no one is not even america
The only reason the Normans won Hastings was because Vikings had invaded and taken over northern Anglo-Saxon England, the southern English then raced up to meet the attacking Viking and beat them (The end of the Viking Age), they then marched back down to southern England and fought the Normans outnumbered and exhausted. Obviously they were beaten. Frankly I feel sorry for the Anglo Saxons.
Dont feel bad for us poor anglos, after all we went on to RULE THE FUCKING WORLD!!! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Suck it people of different ethnicities and cultures!!!
Ahahaha, it`s funny because few people really know where Hastings actually is, and the place itself is quite insignificant, and yet the battle was so important
@jonny1460 Harold godwinson was a west Saxon. However by this time the west Saxons were the "Angelcin" or land of the englsih speaking people. They spoke old English, a cross between German, Danish and a dose of latin.
@ohmyagod4 You're from the land where when you run out of potatoes you die (where as we English would have just ate something else lol), the land known through out the world for its inferior education bordering on illiteracy, a land so shit broke it has to go begging cap in hand to its hated neighbours (how i laughed at that, i'd have made you beg, then laughed as i told you to fuck off) yet you call England a shit hole! hahahahah Now fuck off and clean the wheels on your house pikey!
@Saxonsoldiers Nothing like some casual racism eh? You can be proud of your nations heritage without shitting all over someone else's you know? Grow up.
@Saxonsoldiers Illiterate? Did you ever hear of Jonathan Swift,Oliver Goldsmith,Joseph Sheridan La-Fanu, Bram Stoker,W B Yeats,George Bernard Shaw,Sean O'Casey,Samuel Beckett,Oscar Wilde,Maeve Binchy to name but a very few.
And as for the potato famine, the Irish obviously ate more than just potato's! (As well as knowing how to spell potato!) It was the English landlords and government that made it far worse than it need have been.
@Saxonsoldiers It always strikes me as funny that racist bigots always get offensive and never seem to know what they are talking about.Of course,if they did know then they wouldn't be bigots. Oh by the way,It's "we English would have EATEN something else.
The Battle of Hastings wasn't about who got Hastings. It was part of the war of succesion after the death of king Edward the Confessor and the first Norman victory on William's path to the English throne.
@The505Guys Sharp observation 505Guy, but you don't seem to understand that once someone posts something that another person thinks is inaccurate he will tell him so, and there an argument will spring up, it being a family guy video has nothing to do with it.
Yeah Hastings and all the rest of England.

Why the fuck are people arguing about 1066 on a family guy video? If you want to do that crap go and do it on an actual historical video...
