@mayami346 I think now both phones are very out of date. I would move towards an Android device. If I had to pick one I would say n95 8gb. It is one of the best phones I have ever had. N85 is not built as solid
I am using n95 8gb for two and a half years, and I just love it... I have n85 also, and I must say that 95 is MUCH better phone... I dropped it like a 1000 times and all it gets are a few scratches, and dropped my 85 JUST ONCE and the keyboard cracked open... Cost me as hell to repair it...
@mario20033 Agree, Nokia E72 is my favorite Nokia right now. I did love my N95 8gb as well. N79 & N82 are both great too, but the xenon flash on the N82 makes it better than N79.
well i have the choice to buy either n85 or n95 - but i think i am gonna buy the n85- cuz here in the middle east and the arab countries - n95 s r not 100%original - more than 60 % of n95 s in market are fakeeee - n95 is the mobile wiz the largest no.s of fake models copied - but n 85 is kinda unique
True, as a former N95 8GB owner and current N86 owner, the N86 is the only worthy upgrade in the N Series class. N82 is also on par with N95 8GB...but I like the feel and look of the sliders.
I Really Love My N86, Given The Fact That It Sort Of Has An Old Fashioned Look (Classic Slider Form Factor With A Traditional Num Pad) It Still Manages To Turn Heads Almost Everywhere I Go.
True, a half qwerty would be better. But keep the E72 polished finished for back cover for some bling. Also the optical nav pad, don't really like the N86 center pad...but I love the retro keys on N86...u can fly textn on that thing!
@GoGazelle Hello, nice review! I wanna buy 1 of these 2 phones but I can´t decide between them. At first I wanted to buy the N95, my cousin had one ad i really liked it. Then I got to know the N86. it would be sort of a perfect phone for me, but too expensive and the design didn´t please that much.
@GoGazelle Then I got to know the N85. The reason I was going towards it are, first 1 thing you mentioned in the review: it´s slimmer, nice size and I liked its design also. More modern, the N95 seems a bit passed. Although the N95 8Gb still seems a better phone over all. Please help me decide(you and/or anybody else). Thanks
Personally I would avoid the N85, I have seen some many problematic N85 phones in the last year. The N95 8GB is outdated but still a very good phone. I still feel it is the best Nokia ever made. I would suggest the either N86, N95 8GB, N82, or E72...These are all the top Nokia's on the market. Good luck
@GoGazelle Thank you very much for your (quick)reply. This then makes me go for my first choice: the N95 8GB. It´ll even be a little bit cheaper than that N85 I was thinking of buying. And I can buy it in my town, so I won´t need to wait(in case of the N85) to be sent. I´ll just wait for 1 reply of 1 question I had made about 1 N82 in good condition I found. It´s a good phone right? I can buy it without hesitation? Just 1 question: does it have 3G technology? Cause I intend to use it here...
N95 8GB and N82 are very similar but with the N82 you get bar phone and amazing Xenon flash. With N95 you get amazing slider and 8GB storage. I don't really like the keys on the N82 personally. N82 uses 3g hsdpa 2100mhz...i think 850 is US 3g only. N95-4 will work on 850mhz (us version of n95 8gb)
@GoGazelle Hello Anthony. Thank you once more for your reply. I´m still considering the N85 a little bit. You mentioned in the earlier post that you´ve seen some many problematic N85 last year. What would be those problems exactly? Are they major problems or something u can live with? The major disadvantage of the N85(for me) towards the N95 8GB is the RAM. As I read sometimes it lags or even crashes. Is that a rule for the N85?
@GoGazelle The other you mentioned in the review is the keyboard. But I think I could get used to it. And I like its design a bit better than the N95. And I know the N95 is an awesome cel phone(maybe my favorite). And I also sent an e-mail to Nokia and they told me the N85-RM334 uses the frequency in 850Mhz. So I could use that system where I live. What would be the other problems you´ve seen with the N85? Thanks once more.
N85 has more physical problems, it is not as solid as N95 or N96...it feels cheap. I have seen cracked housing and keypads. Plus problems with Navi wheel no working I would avoid N85 personally. N86 is worth the money, a new N95 8gb will prob cost the same as a n86 now...around $360
n85 is much better phone the n95 is nokia trying to be clever but everything u do with that phone it has to think bout it its got too many gadgets for its own good . it slides far too easily and camera dnt have a cover were as n85 does save ur money and get the n85
It does feel a bit cheap, not as bad as the N96. The N95 8gb is solid, but thick in your pocket. Try the new N86 its the perfect blend between n85 and n95. Plus you get a 8mp camera, review coming soon.
I have both phones, to tell the truth I like the N95 8gb a bit more. I love the size of the n85 because it is thinner, but I also hate the keypad. Plus the n95 8gb has a bigger screen when I use my slingbox. It is a tough decision. Both are great devices!
The N85 seems to feel the fastest going through the menus, the N95 8gb processor is a bit slower at 332mhz compared to 369mhz. However the N95 8gb is solid, never freezes or lags like the n85. N96 is one big fail for me, its terrible in and out.
What a superficial review. OLED-Display vs. conventional Display? There is no comparison at all! OLED is way better. In almost every single review/comparison I´ve read the N85 is much better than its NOKIA competitors (N95, N79, N82)
I have both phones, and I still like the N95 8gb over the N85. The only thing better on the N85 is the slimness. I agree that the OLED is better, but in sunlight I like the n95, plus it has a bigger display which rocks on the slingbox app.
Very true. I have had N96, N85, N79... at the end I still went back to my N95 8GB. It is solid, classy, and the best performer. We will see how the n86 holds up in june.
Hi nice review a question please, i want a new phone for this week so i was thinking about N95 8gb or a N86 because a friend can get it for me but i dont know which one is better could you recomend me one?? and why please thanks!!! :)
Sir can i ask you again, what's the best in touch phone..coz im thinking if the n97 is good in touch screen, but its bulky..maybe i'l go for samsung or Lg?
The one in this video is also "made in china". I think most n85 are made in china. Check the IMEI (*#06#). If the 7th and 8th numbers are 02 it is usually Chinese made. The quality is still very good on the N85.
I wouldn't recommend the N85 to anyone, im on my 3rd one and the same thing keeps going wrong. The keypad on the slider keeps falling off. I would wait until Nokia fix the design faults with the phone...
I aggre with kaka i think the N85 is better. cuz u can put more then 8GB in the N85 and the speakers in the N85 is better and if u think the N95 8GB speakers are better then u must be crazy!!
Call me crazy. I have both right now (just bought the N85, pondering whether to return it or to sell my N95-4), and I'd definitely say the N95 speakers are fuller, not as tinny a the N85.
The crazy ones, of course, are those who use ANY of these to play music directly from the phone. You'll need external speakers and/or headset to get decent sound from either.
One thing that was not mentioned: N95 is more dockable (e.g. with a Brodit device holder) since the charging port is at the bottom.

It is a great device, my E72 is a real head turner too. It has a nice finish. A Nokia 8mp sliding qwerty would be a dream phone for me!

You Said It Brother! My Dream Phone Would Be A N86 With A Sliding Half-Qwerty Though (Like The E55) So People Won't Confuse It With A Damn Palm Pre.
THAT Would Really Cool.

True, a half qwerty would be better. But keep the E72 polished finished for back cover for some bling. Also the optical nav pad, don't really like the N86 center pad...but I love the retro keys on N86...u can fly textn on that thing!

Can you please tell us about the speed please? which is faster in menus? n85 or n95?
I'm trying to pick between n95 8gb, n96 and n85.
So far I know that n95 has more cpu power, 3d acceleration.
n96 seems to be a slow phone but has tv(useless) and 16gb(not that important to me).
n85 has fm transmitter, better screen(but smaller) but it has less ram than either n95 or n96.
n95 8GB seems to be the best mix of the two.
I don't know which has better camera and GPS though

n85 - 2,6" OLED display (better quality),microsd slot, fm transmitter, better batery duration.
n95 8gb - 2,8" TFT display (bigger), dual core ARM (processor) and dedicated graphics controller wich provides better performance but wastes more battery.
