if this was a video made today im sure you guys would have something to say about how the females are dressed, or why they have to act like that and all this bull
nolstalgia is great and very powerful
but...black people can still come together like this, and they do.
@pjchmiel don't be stupid okay? these people may have looked happy on the outside of Cabrini Green, but the inside was hell & despite the fact that these people chose to take their minds off of their worries every now & then doesn't eliminate the fact that at the end of the day they were very miserable & stop acting like the ''old days'' were much better because Cabrini earned it's dangerous rep in the 60s for those talking about it got worse after the 70s, ''the good old days'' LOL
I call on the black church and every black organization of respectability to rise up now and prepare a plan to restore sanity and hope within the basest segment of the Black community. This video proves that we had it before and I know we can do it again.....let our motto be " community is the key"
This video shows there can be good times no matter where you live..in the late 70's i've heard people were less hostile..it was free which is weird becase now 30 plus years later people many people in their communities don't even know their own neighbor..
I love this video I always come back to it... I was born in 76 and it just seem like it was so much fun before my time... thank u for makin me smile everytime I see this vid
really awesome video. i agree. its shocking that there are no fat black people and everyone is smiling..no one is acting tough and gangsta for the camera. this proves that this was 30 years ago.
Wow...this is great! You would never see this today in any project in America. People (black people) having fun in the community together and no ones bragging about how much drugs they sell, money they make, showing there guns, or even mentioning how rough their block is. And not every other word is nigga.
You can't have fun like this any more because someone will be cussing and acting a fool. Women would be half dress and many children wouldn't be there. The 70's looked so carefree, this was 78, the year I was born.
@sho4ker i wish i knew where you lived i would fuck you up. i know why you mad at black people cause a black man fucked your girl ha ha ha ha haha you bitch. die honky
your some scared ass yuppie that would'nt even walk by a project building! But you'll be a bitch ass internet gangster though huh?I'm white and you're a fucking disgrace to the white race coward
@MrMatham why would any white person walk past a project? unless you're a fucking crack head or a heroin addict, you're just asking for a bullet to the head.
Blacks are just as racist..... Believe me, I've been there... W\ a gun to the head, filling up my car, only because I was lost.. Real fucking fair.... Lucky I didnt have my .357 w\ me.
What a wonderful video showing something so positive occurring in Cabrini. Thank you for posting this ...back then it was still a community and a neighborhood; albeit a rough one. The 1980's was the demise of Cabrini because of crack cocaine, like every other city. If you have anything else like this please post it!
@figbli Actually it was powerful street gangs that for the most manged to keep crack out of Chicago - they wanted tight control over the drug trade, no competition from those seeking to cash in on the "new" product . Because of this, crack never reached epidemic proportions like in NYC and other major cities. Although I'm from Chicago, I remember visiting family/friends in NYC (LES) and even I was shocked at the number of crack houses and addicts, it was pitiful.
@redcheetah that.s because young folks went out and danced, double dutched, played base, basket, foot or whatever ball and played tag and so on instead of sitting down in front of a playstation, computer or television. because their sorry parents dont pick them up by the throat and say, take yo ass outside!!! like i do. word up.
seems like good times back then (even though it was still pretty harsh back then too but not as bad). The music wants to make me dance too! I love to see when everybody can get together and jus boogey the night away and have fun.
I wish I was living back then in this era. I'm probably the only 22 year old that bumps these disco songs in my IPOD, but who cares I love this stuff.
i know exactly what u mean... i wish so 2...they look like they are havin so much fun, and no violence, everybody getting along and havin good times!!!!
Keeping your head above water is always difficult. Periodically, you might be able to make a wave, if you can. At least we are fortunate to have them. Good Times.
Our unity. The importance of family and working together. Because together we can accomplish this, and go back to our instinctive ways. This is Cabrini. I'm sure the Cabrini many haven't seen or could even relate to this video. But this is black people also; at their best. Strive to be the change you wish for. God Bless Cabrini & the Black Community! ~ One Luv
This is totally Cabrini during the 70's. See the fashion, the people their groove the buildings in the background! And yes--it is beautiful. This is the unity, fun, & good times I grew up knowing. And tho I didn't stay in Cabrini, it was established within my neighborhood. This was a time in history, however, that the black community overall was UNITED. We have to connect again with that.
Is this for real in 1978? I don't know if I beleve that and why all these people all shicked by this one little block party they always had shit like this in the greens even when there were niggaz saging there shit and gang banging
This is beautiful! To see my people enjoying them selves and having fun. Tapes like this should be archived so that today's generation can see what used to be. So that they can realize what tomorrow can be. One luv CG!
this is cool, the fact that someone was able to preserve this piece for thirty years. you don't hear anyone calling each other nigger, sagging or acting a fool. they were having Good Times.
On da real that shit aint coming back..At least for a REAL long time considering these days..I think thats just whats up..But WE CHOSE IT..As much as I hate 2 say it..When it REALLY came down 2 it WE CHOSE THAT SHIT..We chose that shit a long time ago
Add crack cocaine in the 80's to what appeared to be happy living people in the 70's and you get an entire different community with gangs, more drugs, and violence. No more happy faces.
Think for a second. What have we done to make our world these days more dangerous? Look at Cabrini back then and look at it now? How did happy faces turn into violence?
how? well the goverment didn't want to pay out the money to fix the place up when it need some fix up and I DON'T MEAN FIXIN THE PEOPLE I MEAN MAINTANCE WORK MEANING fixing up whatever that needs to be fix like the stove, the plumming u know like keep up the maintance of the bulding.
Thats not what I heard from a friend of mine, to let him tell it the Greens was ALWAYS a warzone...I told him that i didn't believe it and he was full of it.
I'm from Altgeld gardens on the S. Side and had cousins in Robert taylor and I feel that you seen one project...you've seen em all. None is "worst' than another.
