I think it's all a "Dog and Pony Show", sort of like the voting process, makes the majority believe some sort of discourse is going on between them with regard to spiritual matters. My guess is that they discuss the newest whores in town and their specialties, whose got the best coke, which sham corporation to invest in. I don't think there is any morality in politics or fame.
"For decades, Billy Graham served as a spiritual adviser to presidents, but what did this really mean?"
Graham told Nixon that "The Jew" was responsible for the USA's many problems during the Nixon Regime; Graham also told Nixon to commit war crimes against Vietnam: the same acts that some Nazis were sent to prison for--- destroying sewage treatment plants, water systems, and infrastructure so that hundreds of thousands of old people and children would die. Nixon declined.
Billy is moderate by current standards. They don't like him because he is not as radical as they are.
Presidents have probably never actually sought religious leaders' advice in any profound way because they are all on message already. My hypothetical questions are entirely for effect and were done to cast doubt on the value of religious-based intrusion into politics.
Over the last 40 yrs, I have often wondered exactly what you ask in this vid. What the hell did presidents do with Billy's advice? How much influence did this tent-revival pusher of lies have with all of these many men of power? Pretty scary stuff for sure. I would hope that Obama doesn't try to get counsel from a preacher but I think my hope will be dashed. One thing we know for sure, it won't be his ex-preacher Wright.
Yes, a good part of it is show for the voters. Before Bush II, I would have said it all was. Who would Palin have brought to her desk? Of note, Nixon's tapes actually record their intimate discussions about policy!
I think that that's a big part of it. The danger, as I see it, is that behavior leads to belief. In other words, if you keep acting like you're taking guidance charlatans, you're not that far from actually doing it. Ben Franklin once said that if you pretend to be humble, then soon enough you'll find that you actually become more humble. That is a virtuous example, but the lesson also applies in this case.
Don't you find it interesting how Obama joked about Nancy Reagan's astrology episode and Neo-cons were up in arms. Even Christians should know to steer clear of astrology, yet they will defend one of their own even though it breaks the first commandment! We should all applaud Obama for identifying bad ideas when he sees them!
actually, I found the Clinton factoid more interesting.....I don't remember that coming up in the primary
the big problem is how the faithful's minds work. the idea that they can be wrong is pretty important for a leader to grasp. not that our current fearless one has had a problem with that
god created aids to kill his shit creation. LOL

Are they perhaps playing to the constituents? It's all a game, after all.
Say what the stupid masses want to hear.
Hopefully, we'll leave it behind.
Great video.

I fear I'm making the transition from skeptic to cynic. It's a fundamental change, and I don't like it. But it's hard to resist.
