This book was absolutely compelling from beginning to end. The story is beautifully written. Emotionally powerful. I have also read 'A Thousand Splendid Suns' and it is just as emotionally gripping. Both boys in this movie are very adorable. Amir, coward at the beginning, hero at the end. Redemption. The movie never does the book justice. That's why it's always better to read the book first, then watch the movie. I wonder if there will ever be a movie based on 'A Thousand Splendid Suns'. I hope
@ChotiChica i read the book before and i also have a thousand splendid sun, i know this movie isnt as good as what the book could be but i hope the story is the same, that they follow hesseni's book rather than derrive the story and put their own version
@mrDonVito19 This is not just happening in Afghanistan, children get raped in european countries as well. I don't understand why did you said Allahu ekber?
this movie accurately depicts the true virtues of Islam and why it has no place in the 1st world- Islam is based off the idea of terrorizing those who dont believe and that sharia law should replace democracy- They can keep their shit-drenched middle east where they kill women for driving and stone disbelievers to death.
I don't watch movies like this that cynically try to make money in such a fashion. Where stupid people spew the excuse "But it's real...It happens in real life" etc. This movie, & the book, are about making vast amounts of money for a man who was already in a well paid line of work, through the means of sensationalism and causing a stir. Nothing more. That fact that it supposedly has a happy/triumphant ending, & the timing of its release, further betrays its true intentions. Make ur own mind up
I cried my eyes out while readin the book...I'm crying my eyes out while watching the movie a year later...I like the movie, but I LOVE the book... <3
this story saddens me when i read it and then watched it ......BUT WHO THE HELL WOULD RAPE ANOTHER KID YO THAT DUDE IS GAY? A SIMPLE ASSWHOPPIN WOULDA BEEN FINE NOT ASS POPPIN!!! THATS NASTYYYYY WTF?
I can't stand Amir. What kind of person would be so cruel to such a good friend. He was a spoiled brat. he watched his friend get raped, and just did nothing. he acted as if it was his problem afterwards. didn't offer any support to the boy he grew up with.
I freaking HATE Amir. Hate him for being a coward. Hate him for being USELESS as a friend. I freaking HATE his selfishness. He didn't deserve a friend like Hassan. Hassan was far more worthy of anything..
I know. he's worse than just a coward, he trys to punish others for being a coward. but it was the way he was raised, he was raised to believe he was more than Hassan. Hassan was a servant, who slept in a hut. and did all of Amir's chores.
mir was spoiled rotten. he should have been made to look after himself, rather than have a boy servant. that's what comes of being raised in a society like that, with a class system.
I just finished the movie. By the way if you haven't read the book, you should. It's a beautiful book and conveys the story a whole lot better than the movie did.
When I saw film first time,I thought that Amir is light-headed and unapprehensive kid, because in my opinion in film Amir's emotionals and sensibility weren't showed very clear.
if you read the book first it will make the movie so much better, then you see the characters and story coming to life. The movie wont be near as good if you havent read the book. it makes it more personal
I had to read the book for school, and it gave me no emotion. I find it had the potential to be sad, but the writer didn't use it enough to be upsetting, I thought it was just a dull must, to be honest. Not my "cup of tea"
@stevinlewis actually, this wasnt shot in afghanistan because it was banned there, and the place is dangerous too.. it was filmed in China, at least most of it...
@azisurfer how bout the film is based on a fictional novel...it's not whether it's true or not. regardless it's a moving story...perhaps you should read the book

I loved the book, it's my favorite. I cried the whole time. I haven't watched the movie, since movies tend to spoil my image of the characters in the book.
I cannot imagine NOT watching the whole movie and NOT reading the book..When I saw the trailer two years ago, I was saddened by the fact that it might contain a lot of killing in Afghanistan and because,I hate to see a lot of nonsense killing before going to bed...now, I found my regrets..I should have seen it anyways..Two years and here I am, trying to find out if the movie is still at Blockbuster
although I bet this movie is great, the book is so good, intricate, and has so many twists and turns, I cannot imagine every important part being in the movie
how painful and emotional is this movie? i finished the book, it was very emotional and moving i cried throughout. If the movie is that painful please tell.
this is wierd...the real trailer is right here > /watch?v=FFrE15ibRTM&list=PLFC97A07F8D443529&feature=mh_lolz

@BLOGidiot you know, you shouldn't say the ending because it can ruin the story for some people. I'm just warning you in the future....
