haha no problem...you guys are awesome musicians...idk if u remember but i'm alex...(the one who wanted to use come drive in my video contest last year)...anyway, keep defying gravity!
I actually can't stand that Glee version of the song. They've taken the original and surgically removed EVERYTHING I liked about it. There's none of that clever 'coming back on yourself' that Schwartz works into his music, they've taken out the last verse, and the relaxed tempo and timbre make me think that this is a song about getting up and doing some chores.
Honestly, there's more evil in the charts than in an Al Qaeda suggestion box . . .
I actually think the version they used was modeled from the single version that Idina did, but maybe that's just me...the arrangement is very similar anyway...unfortunately, i dont think that version's on youtube anywhere. I know it's on itunes tho if you do decide to investigate further haha...but thanks again!
No, you're right - it is based on the Idina single version, but with a reduced instrumental track. Mind you, I think Idina's one's diabolically evil as well, but at least she kept part of the last verse in.
Right. I thought so. I like Idina's work- I wish I could hear her live. From the general buzz, her live performances leave much to be desired, but I'm always a sucker for the OBC and I think she brought something to the original role that no one else could. That's why the OBC is #1 in the video, in fact. I think originals just put more into it, you know what i mean?
Oh definitely - although Kerry Ellis is my favourite Elphaba (what with being a Londoner and all) you've got to acknowledge the sheer amount of effort that Idina put into her portrayal of the character - going through the workshop stages and all. I saw one of the original London Billy's (of Billy Elliot) and really was blown away - never seen another performance like it.
Wow, it's nice to be able to discuss this with someone who's A) Sensible and B) Interested
No, it was an original London Billy - Liam Mower. Phenomenal ballet dancer and his singing wasn't bad either. He did performances on Children in Need and The Sound of Musicals on the telly which were also amazing.
And yeah - Kiril looks utterly fantastic. Not been to America to see it, but if I did, I'd love to see him.
If you get the chance to see Billy, either in London, NY or in Chicago, go see! The Billy's really are something else, performance-wise. :)
I'm sure they are. Unfortunately, the only legit show I've seen is Wicked (which was amazing btw...Donna Vivino and Melissa Bohon) in "Broadway Across America" at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta, GA. But I'm going to see Avenue Q in May (it's touring as well). I haven't actually gotten a chance to travel anywhere to see any shows, but I'd love to have the chance to.
Had no idea Avenue Q was touring the US. Seen it here in London and it's just so good. REALLY funny (which is kinda obvious, considering some of the song titles).
So are you a devout Vivino/Bohon fan, or are there other Elphaba/Glinda combinations you like to listen to on YT?
I mainly just listen to OBC or the cast I saw...I mean I don't do a whole lot of browsing anymore, but I have to say that Donna Vivino is one of the best Elphabas I've ever heard, live or recorded...
@VersaceWannabe did she ever record a version? I mean I like her but I wanted to use just pro recordings...that's why she's not here...unless she did record her own version...which is why I'm asking if she ever did
Uhm...Prolly one ahead of Japanese Cast Recording. I mean Idina's voice is amazing (and not to be too critical) but I really just didn't care for the arrangement of the remixes. They're kinda wierd. They didn't do her DG justice in my opinion.
@tapdawg8 i agree! Idina's amazing, i just think the climax was way too soft and pretty, not powerful. i mean, it was interesting to see it be different, and i did like it, i just prefer the stronger versions..
Kerry Ellis is the best version by far, don't you people have a musical ear?

Otherwise, quite liked the video! :)

Was it Kiril Kulish? I've seen him in a fair few performances (not live, of course, but on YT)... he's really good.

i just realized it's redundant to put "obc cast recording". i was in a bit of a hurry while making this video, so forgive me.

if you did have Idina's version, where would you put her??
and strangely, mine would practically be identical to yours!! haha
