One of the reasons why we have so many diagnoses of autism...is because people know about it and recognize the symptoms of it. It's not that there are more cases, but there are more people who are able to get help for it.
Behaviour therapy is the best and most proven therapy. Autism cannot be cured, but it can be better understood and children (and adults) can be taught the social skills to cope and adapt.
I work with kids on the spectrum, and the improvements is nothing short of a miracle.

If parents wish to do other things, I won't argue against it and I believe specific diets also help. My best friend's son is on the spectrum and is on a no dairy, no refined sugar diet and has been much better since starting it, and his father is a doctor.

My 5 yr old son has been diagnosed with severe autism since he was 15 months old and for 6 weeks we have done chelation, he is able to understand two step commands now, where as he could not before this and he does many other great things I won't go into here. New research shows that the rates of adults who are autistic is the same as the rates of children who are autistic. That indicates that the rate of autism is stable and has been stable for an extended period which is in contrast to the part of the "mercury causes autism theory" that says autism rates are skyrocketing due to exposer to mercury. Also it shows that mercury isn't the culprit because for the theory to be correct the rates should be higher when people are exposed to more mercury.

Right, how do we know that these kids actually had autism and not something else that may have presented symptoms similar to those of autism. The problem is with who is doing the diagnosing. I don't trust your average pediatrician to diagnose autism. I have 3 people with fancy letters after their name who say I have Aspergers. 2 are PhD psychologists and one is a therapist who specializes in working with adults with Aspergers.

From what I have seen, most people wont notice autistic symptoms early on. It's only later when more obvious things show up that the parent suspects something is wrong. So it's easy for a parent to think "my child was normal and then regressed into autism". I would be curious to look at what proof you have regarding mercury. I have a reading disability so I admittedly haven't taken the time to read through the studies done on the subject.

My son Landon is Autistic. Hes four years old. And I think hes a amazing little guy. He has his days but watching him sort things, color coordinate his goldfish crackers and put his cars and trucks a certain way its all amazing.

There's much more to the story. We are lucky that our ASD son is a happy child! He's always smiling in every picture we've taken of him. At his parent/teacher meeting, one teacher said with glossy eyes, "No matter how many times he's seen me in a day, he's so happy to see me each time, as if he hadn't seen me in a long time". Has anyone looked at epidemeology of the disorder? Has anyone looked at the parental combination, ie, engineers marrying engineers, high functioning people AS, who then have more severely autistic kids?
Has anyone noticed that even since mercury has been removed from childhood vacinations the numbers of cases continues to rise?

I would argue that autism IS genetic. My autism anyway. My dad has symptoms of autism, just not enough to be diagnosed with classical autism or Aspergers. I on the other hand have enough to have been diagnosed with Aspergers. Also, Aspergers didn't enter the DSM until 1994 so there are many people not diagnosed until they were adults. I wasn't diagnosed till I was 23. So if autistic people do some digging and know what to look for, I am sure they can find autism in their family tree.

Many researchers and experts about autism from supposedly the country with the greatest medical system in the world have conducted surveys of the rate of autism in Africa. One of the reasons why we have so many diagnoses of autism...is because people know about it and recognize the symptoms of it. It's not that there are more cases, but there are more people who are able to get help for it.
Behaviour therapy is the best and most proven therapy. Autism cannot be cured, but it can be better understood and children (and adults) can be taught the social skills to cope and adapt.
I work with kids on the spectrum, and the improvements is nothing short of a miracle.

@monkeydog2332 I'm not going to disagree that there may be some sort of link, but at the same point, I don't believe that heavy metal poisoning IS the reason behind autism, and I back 100% behaviour therapy. If parents wish to do other things, I won't argue against it and I believe specific diets also help. My best friend's son is on the spectrum and is on a no dairy, no refined sugar diet and has been much better since starting it, and his father is a doctor.

My 5 yr old son has been diagnosed with severe autism since he was 15 months old and for 6 weeks we have done chelation, he is able to understand two step commands now, where as he could not before this and he does many other great things I won't go into here. Children with mercury poisoning suffer narrowing of their field of vision, become severely psychotic, have heads smaller than normal, whereas children with autism do not have visual problems, are not psychotic despite socially aloof and have larger heads than normal.

New research shows that the rates of adults who are autistic is the same as the rates of children who are autistic. That indicates that the rate of autism is stable and has been stable for an extended period which is in contrast to the part of the "mercury causes autism theory" that says autism rates are skyrocketing due to exposer to mercury. Also it shows that mercury isn't the culprit because for the theory to be correct the rates should be higher when people are exposed to more mercury.

Mercury is also in dental amalgam and for several decades (70s and 80s) was in contact lens solutions. These are ongoing exposures that have affected mothers giving birth since then, and been passed on to their children. Add in the mercury from power plant emissions, contaminated fish (nearly all of them) and waterways, etc. even broken thermometers and lightbulbs. And a subset of people who have weak detoxification genetically are the canaries in the coalmine, so to speak.

Children have been diagnosed with autism before thymersol. There are records of mental institutions in the 1800's of people having same behavior.
Autism has risen for 60 years after penicillin. Children are not dying like they did before. They survive colds, strep, etc.

One thing about thimerasol in vaccines is mercury is much heavier than other things in the vaccine. Consequently it SINKS TO THE BOTTOM. So the amount per dose per child isnt the same. If your dose came from the top of a container, it will be relatively mercury free. If from the bottom, up to 10 times the average amount stated to be in the vial. Guess Autism is here to stay, as long as the sheeple sleep.

As a person with Hereditary Hemachromotosis, avoiding the widespread use of metal toxins in everyday products is nigh impossible.
Im in the consensus that believes, it is because of methylmercury. Onset of symptoms definitely link with his vaccine dates. And yes, it is STILL used. The Flu shot still has it and is given to younger & younger children. The FDA justifies using it and changes the danger parameters (doh! to avoid lawsuits!).

I was looking into the DSMIV which was pulished in 1994 today, it seems that the bible of mental health went from a thin guide to a 800+ page epic in one amendment and practically all of those who sat on the panel had financial ties to drugs company. I am not against research, provided that it's research that genuinely helps autistic people. I am against research to cure and prevent autism. The problem is that much of the research being done is for eugenics, not to help autistic people.

its not that easy. if you go on the webistes that say this is easily done and look at their methods its a very week argument. Many times the children used (such as Jenny McCarthy's child) who are cured often do not have a full certified diagnosis.

Right, how do we know that these kids actually had autism and not something else that may have presented symptoms similar to those of autism. The problem is with who is doing the diagnosing. I don't trust your average pediatrician to diagnose autism. I have 3 people with fancy letters after their name who say I have Aspergers. 2 are PhD psychologists and one is a therapist who specializes in working with adults with Aspergers.

These childrens problems are not genetic their genes made them vulnerable and they regressed because they couldnt excrete the toxins from their body. Genetic autism and environmentally induced regression are not the same they are just both given the diagnosis of autism. Now its diversifying into PDDs to try to keep autistic numbers down. My autism causes me problems too. My whole point is that I don't think that autistic people should eliminated. We should have a society that values people with disabilities. But no, we are devalued. We are seen as burdens on society. Autism speaks says that autism costs our nation $90 billion a year. I recently saw a poster from Nazi Germany stating how many reich's marks people with disabilities cost Germany. Gee what a coincidence.

I am not against avoiding brain damage. But who is to say that my brain is damaged? I am not against treatments at all. Otherwise I wouldn't be receiving them. What I am against is efforts to cure and prevent autism. Great contributions to our world have come about BECAUSE of autism. Dr.Temple Grandin and Dr.Dawn Prince-Hughes are perfect examples. There is also speculation that people like Einstein, Edison, and others were autistic. If so we may have Autism to thank.

From what I have seen, most people wont notice autistic symptoms early on. It's only later when more obvious things show up that the parent suspects something is wrong. So it's easy for a parent to think "my child was normal and then regressed into autism". I would be curious to look at what proof you have regarding mercury. I have a reading disability so I admittedly haven't taken the time to read through the studies done on the subject.

My son Landon is Autistic. Hes four years old. And I think hes a amazing little guy. He has his days but watching him sort things, color coordinate his goldfish crackers and put his cars and trucks a certain way its all amazing.
To me and my husband hes a blessing and we love him for who he is.

As an autistic person this video offended me. They portray the girl needing teeth brushing instructions like it's some horrific thing. I am 28 and have difficulties brushing my teeth every day. If I had a teeth brushing list as a kid, I wouldn't have had so many fillings, crowns and root canals. If someone has to do things differently than other people, it isn't a bad thing. I have a friend who has to eat sandwiches with a fork due to his disability. So what!

I personally don't buy the vaccine autism connection. Also, it isn't about celebrating the fact that someone needs assistance. It's about accepting the fact that some people need some kinds of assistance in doing things. You know, it isn't just "high functioning" (a useless label) autistics that are against a cure. There are people with classical (kanners) autism who are also against a cure. You might feel differently if people like you were under the threat of extinction.

If groups like Autism Speaks have their way, people like will no longer exist. I am not personally under threat. But children and future generations are. If a national organization wanted to "cure" blackness or jewness and ensure that there would be no more blacks or jews born, people would be outraged. As far as brain damage goes, is there any way to prove with reasonable certainty that a child was poisoned and not born with autism? Currently autism can't be diagnosed with medical tests.

There's much more to the story. We are lucky that our ASD son is a happy child! He's always smiling in every picture we've taken of him. At his parent/teacher meeting, one teacher said with glossy eyes, "No matter how many times he's seen me in a day, he's so happy to see me each time, as if he hadn't seen me in a long time". Put they say its safe in your head. Can't have it both ways. I wish the CDC could talk to the EPA, but can't, Just had 15 of mine removed over 1.5 yrs.

This is a preventable tragedy. Not all cases are caused by mercury, but I am convinced some are. The data is overwhelming. Some people geneticallly cannot excrete heavy metals well. That's why we see variance.

I used to get violently ill from vaccines. Then I went into restorative dentistry. I started having some neurological problems-tremor. Then I got pregnant. My son has Asperger's Syndrome as did 2 other offspring in our office. "Silver fillings" medium size contain 536mg of mercury. We are severely exposed as we work with it in a volitile state. We are supposed to be using respirators.Ask your dentist for the paper info in their box of fillings and decide for yourself if it's safe.

I have Asperger's and I would have not like to be like Kim. I was diagnosed at 2 by a doctor. My intrest was maps and I could have told you to get from Point A to Point B. The autism I had was high functioning. Also my uncle, grandfather & grandfather's cousin has it.

I would argue that autism IS genetic. My autism anyway. My dad has symptoms of autism, just not enough to be diagnosed with classical autism or Aspergers. I on the other hand have enough to have been diagnosed with Aspergers. Also, Aspergers didn't enter the DSM until 1994 so there are many people not diagnosed until they were adults. I wasn't diagnosed till I was 23. So if autistic people do some digging and know what to look for, I am sure they can find autism in their family tree.
